Rejected by My Alpha Mate; Nyra's Awakening

Chapter 70: Let’s Get A DNA

Adrian is still rightfully fuming by the time his car tears through the gates of the Blackwood mansion.

The engine barely dies before he’s out of the driver’s seat, slamming the door hard enough to make Nyra flinch.

She hurries after him, struggling to keep up with his long strides.

Inside the Blackwood mansion, the atmosphere is suffocating. Servants keep their heads down, a few pack elders are here too.

The Luna and Alpha are also waiting near the staircase, the royal doctor already unpacking a small silver case onto a nearby table.

And sitting on one of the sofas is Anna. It’s not a surprise she got here before them, as the condo is much closer than the hotel.

Her eyes are swollen from crying, tissues scattered around her feet. And the moment she sees Adrian, she jumps up.

"Adrian!" She shamelessly rushes toward him, completely ignoring Nyra. "Please, listen to me. I swear none of this is what it looks like-"

He walks straight past her as if she doesn’t exist. "Adrian! Listen to me first!"

She grabs for his arm, pulling him back before he can walk off too far.

Adrian stops, chest rising and falling with obvious anger. And for one terrifying second, everyone thinks he’s about to explode.

Instead, he slowly turns to face her, his silver eyes completely empty. "If you have even a little shame left," he says coldly, "sit down, keep your mouth shut, and do the DNA test."

Anna’s face falls. "You can’t seriously believe those pictures over me!"

"I don’t believe anything anymore." His voice is completely void of any emotion. "And even after the test, even if that child is mine-- you’re out of my life for good."

"H-how... why are you being like this?" She stares at him in shock, like she wasn’t expecting such a reaction. Then her gaze shifts behind him.

To Nyra.

Her eyes immediately land on the several love marks and hickeys peeking above the jersey collar.

That, apparently, is the ’reason’ for Adrian’s strange behavior toward her. Not the fact that she’s cheated. Not the fact that this child could potentially not be his.

No, it’s all Nyra’s fault in her eyes.

She points a shaking finger at Nyra. "This is your fault! You ruined everything like you always do!"

Before anyone can react, Anna lunges. She grabs Nyra’s sandy brown hair, yanking hard enough to make her head snap back.

"You little slut!" she screams. "You stole him! You’ve wanted him all along!" Nyra gasps as pain shoots across her scalp, trying and failing to twist out of Anna’s iron grip.

Even the Alpha and Luna stare at her in disbelief, yelling at Anba to let her go.

Adrian reaches them first, ripping Anna away so violently she nearly loses her balance and falls to the floor.

"You’re lucky you’re pregnant," he spits, "but if you ever touch my mate again, I’ll break your hands."

The way his voice drops, the coldness in his gaze-- even the servants can tell Adrian is not joking.

But Anna just ignores him, still glaring at Nyra with pure hatred. "You’ve always been jealous of me! You waited until I was pregnant to spread your legs for him! You’re disgusting!"

This time, Nyra doesn’t wait for anyone else to defend her. She’s had enough!

Enough of the endless bullying from her sister. Enough of the insults, of Nyra constantly stepping aside for her.

Nyra slowly lifts her head, body shaking with quiet rage. "You know what?" she sneers. "I’ve spent my whole life making excuses for you."

Anna blinks, shocked at the tone. Nyra has never spoken to her like that before.

"I told myself you were just spoiled. I told myself you’d grow out of it." She swallows hard, eyes shimmering with hurt. "I let you insult me... humiliate me... blame me for everything that ever went wrong."

"You made everyone believe I was worthless. You let your friends bully me for years!" Her voice slowly grows steadier. "And even after all that..."

Nyra lets out a bitter laugh. "I still loved you because you were my sister."

Anna opens her mouth, but Nyra doesn’t let her speak.

"But today..." she says, meeting Anna’s eyes without fear, "I’m done. I’m done letting you step all over me."

She wipes the stray tear from her eyes. "I don’t have a sister anymore. And I sure as hell am going to stop caring about you from here on out."

Anna stares at Nyra for a long moment at first. But then, when she recovers, her face folds with disgust.

Then, to everyone’s disbelief, she laughs. A cold, mocking laugh that makes the hair on Nyra’s neck stand on end.

"Sisters?" she scoffs, wiping at the corner of her eye. "When were we ever sisters, Nyra?" She tilts her head. "I’ve never seen you as one. And I don’t care what you see me as either."

Nyra closes her eyes for a brief second, then exhales. Right. Neither her parents nor her sister ever saw her as family.

Just what was she expecting?

Nyra doesn’t bother to respond. Doesn’t bother to cry. She just intertwines her fingers with Adrian’s and gently tugs him away.

Adrian doesn’t move at first. His murderous glare remains fixed on Anna, his wolf practically clawing at the surface, aching to rip her apart for saying such vile things about its mate.

But one look at Nyra’s face is enough.

He swallows every word and follows her to the opposite side of the hall instead.

"I’ve let you all have your say. Now enough of this nonsense!" Alpha Darius finally stands. His Alpha aura floods the hall, instantly silencing everyone.

"We are here to determine the truth--not to tear this family apart any further. Especially not in my presence."

Then he turns to the royal doctor. "Proceed."

The middle-aged man nods and steps forward with two sterile kits.

"Lady Anna, your arm." Anna reluctantly rolls up her sleeve and let’s the man draw her blood into a small vial.

Next comes Adrian.

He doesn’t spare Anna a glance as the doctor draws his sample before carefully sealing both tubes in the silver case.

The doctor adjusts his glasses. "The DNA analysis will be completed overnight, and the results will be ready tomorrow morning."

The man looks happy to gather his equipment and quickly leaves, eager to escape the tension.

The few elders also dismiss themselves one by one after offering Adrian encouraging words.

Once alone, just the five of them, Adrian immediately turns toward Anna with a cold expression.

"Now," he says flatly, "we’re going back to the condo."

His jaw is still tight. "You’ll get every single thing that belongs to you... and get the fuck out of my house."
