Annabelle suddenly rested her head on his shoulder...

Leona Grant stiffened, glanced over cautiously, and then...

Meeting his gaze, Annabelle frowned, a little bored. "So when is the ghost finally going to show up?" she asked.

Leona Grant was speechless.

’The ghost has already come out and killed a whole group of people, and there are people nearby who’ve been scared to tears...’

The corner of Leona Grant’s mouth twitched. He looked at her in disbelief. "You’re not scared?"

Annabelle gave a tired smile. "Compared to the movie," she said weakly, "I think these girls’ screams are way more terrifying."

If it weren’t for all the screaming, she would have fallen asleep long ago. In fact, she had dozed off a few times, only to be jolted awake.

Leona Grant was exasperated. He’d been hoping to see her get scared and seek refuge in his arms.

’How did I end up falling for such a weirdo?’

Annabelle saw his conflicted expression, then glanced around the theater thoughtfully.

The theater was dimly lit. She noticed that a girl in front of them—one who had been screaming and even crying moments before—was now locked in a passionate kiss with her boyfriend.

’...So it’s all just a ploy.’

Annabelle had heard about this tactic before: guys take girls to horror movies to trigger their own protective instincts.

Looking around the entire theater, it seemed she was the only one who wasn’t scared; she was even yawning.

’Did I... ruin the atmosphere?’

Annabelle touched her forehead. She really hadn’t been thinking about all this.

Seeing her touch her forehead like that made Leona Grant’s heart ache. She must be exhausted, but she hadn’t refused his suggestion.

He had brought her to see a horror movie for the express purpose of making her need him, of having her tell him she was scared.

’But at this rate, this is all just a waste of time...’

"Maybe we should go..." he began, feeling defeated.

Before Leona Grant could even finish his sentence, Annabelle threw her arms around him and kissed him.

Then she smiled at him. "Thank you, Mr. Grant, for making me feel so safe. With you by my side, I’m not afraid of anything..."

Leona Grant’s eyes lit up, and he asked happily, "What was that you said?"

The moment Annabelle saw his expression, she knew she had guessed right.

’Seriously... It’s a good thing I caught on, or he would have been so disappointed.’

Annabelle smiled and continued, "It’s so nice having a man by my side. I used to be terrified of these things, but watching this movie today, I’m surprised to find I’m not scared at all."

An irrepressible smile spread across Leona Grant’s lips. He beamed at her. "Really?"

"Really."

"I’ll always protect you from now on."

After saying this, Leona Grant pulled her over to sit on his lap, placed his hands on her shoulders, and kissed her.

His kiss was as dominant and forceful as ever...

After they kissed for a while, Leona Grant held her in his arms. His deep eyes filled with an ocean of tenderness as he whispered, "Annabelle, doesn’t this feel like we’re on a date?"

They had never been on a date before...

Annabelle didn’t catch the undertone in his words. She chuckled, her reply coming naturally. "We’re already like an old married couple."

He absolutely loved it when she spoke to him with such a casual air.

In truth, his only wish had always been to stay with her a little longer, and then longer still... to live out their lives together, an old married couple for a lifetime.

Leona Grant lowered his head, looked at her seriously, and asked once more, "Annabelle, will you leave me?"

Annabelle smiled.

’Why is he asking this question again?’

But she wasn’t annoyed, just a little exasperated.
