Chapter 486: I Am Willing to Help You 7
A restless night.
A sharp pain pulsed from her ankle. As a warm touch enveloped it, Annabelle Linton’s brow furrowed, and she woke up.
Through her blurry vision, she thought she saw... Leona Grant, massaging her foot?
The man wore a simple shirt, his gaze lowered and focused as he massaged her foot, his expression full of tenderness.
She paid no mind to her current predicament or how she had gotten here. All she remembered was fainting. She figured she must have been rescued.
’Ryan is getting sentenced tomorrow! I’m out of time!’
Annabelle Linton sat up, pulling her foot back as she prepared to get out of bed.
But a wave of dizziness washed over her, her vision blackening. She braced herself on the bed with both hands, nearly passing out again.
Leona Grant had been massaging her foot. She had sprained her ankle after falling in high heels yesterday, and it was now a swollen, red mess.
He had applied medicine last night, but with no obvious effect, he decided to try again.
But just as he was about to grab the medicated wine, the foot he was holding vanished.
Leona Grant looked up. He saw Annabelle Linton sitting on the edge of the bed with her feet on the floor. Her hands were braced on the mattress, and her eyes were shut as she tried to recover from something.
He paused for a moment before his face darkened. "You’re sick. Lie down and don’t move. The doctor said you need absolute rest."
Annabelle Linton remained silent. Once the feeling passed, she started to get off the bed, looking down for her shoes.
Seeing her ignore him and act so carelessly about her own well-being made him even angrier. "Annabelle Linton!"
Annabelle Linton looked up at him.
Though her face was expressionless, her weakness, pallor, and gaunt appearance were so apparent that Leona Grant felt a slight pang in his heart.
He walked over and carried her back to the bed. "Your body is in a terrible state," he said softly. "For now, just rest properly. We can talk later. Be good."
’Rest?’
’How could she possibly have time to rest?’
’The sentencing is tomorrow. How was she supposed to just lie here and rest calmly?’
In fact, it was already today. Annabelle Linton just thought it was still yesterday...
She frowned, brushed his hand away, found her shoes, and nodded. "I understand. Thank you."
Her tone was polite but distant, as if she were addressing a stranger.
Having said her piece, she put on her shoes and rushed to leave.
Leona Grant grabbed her. "Where are you going?"
"To save my brother."
Annabelle Linton could tell he was about to grill her for an explanation, just like he always used to, and she didn’t have time to waste.
She laid it all out at once. "My brother is being sentenced tomorrow. I have to go save him."
This time, Leona Grant didn’t interrupt her. He let her go.
After she had taken only a few steps, his voice came from behind her, deep and heavy. "It’s not tomorrow. It’s today."
She froze.
"You collapsed on the roadside with a high fever yesterday. My men rescued you. It was a bad fever; you slept the entire night and have only just woken up." After explaining, Leona Grant even pulled out his phone to show her the calendar.
Annabelle Linton was speechless.
She took one look and realized it was true. It was today.
This time, Annabelle Linton truly began to panic.
She bit her lip. ’What am I going to do? I still don’t have a plan!’
There was no more time to waste. She hurried downstairs.
Leona Grant followed her at an unhurried pace. Watching her, seeing not a single hint that she intended to ask for his help, his expression slowly turned cold.
He leaned lazily against the railing and said lightly, "Bribery. An amount of ten million. That’s at least a decade in prison... ten years..."
Annabelle Linton stopped dead in her tracks.
Leona Grant walked over and slammed his hands against the wall, trapping her. He tilted her chin up, his gaze cold. "Four days. No, today is the fifth. I’ve waited for you for five days. Why won’t you ask me?"
