Chapter 581: I Am the One Who Wants to Protect Her for a Lifetime
First, there was Aaron Wyatt, so devoted he’d lay down his life for her.
And now there’s Quentin Holland. Damn it, he spent three years preparing to come to Celestia just to take care of Annabelle Linton?
Holy crap.
’Leona Grant felt an exhaustion that went bone-deep. He had only himself to blame for being too young and naive back then, a poor judge of character.’
’If he had just treated Annabelle Linton better back then, there’d be no Aaron Wyatt, and no Quentin Holland.’
’Wait, no. What exactly are Quentin Holland’s feelings for Annabelle Linton?’
Leona Grant turned and gave him a cold look, raising an eyebrow. "Let me say this again: Annabelle Linton is my wife. We’re doing great, and we’re not getting a divorce. So, may I ask who you are to her?"
A flicker of light flashed in Quentin Holland’s eyes when he heard this.
Then, his lips curved into a faint smile as he said softly, "The man who wants to protect her for the rest of her life."
Leona Grant’s eyes narrowed. Then, his lips curved into a handsome smile as he said with an air of authority, "Then I’m afraid you’ll never get that chance."
"Hmph." Quentin Holland turned and walked away, casually tossing a line over his shoulder. "We’ll see about that."
Leona Grant remained where he was, his brow furrowed slightly.
’His sixth sense told him this Quentin Holland was going to be a major obstacle.’
「...」
Mia Holloway had whisked Annabelle Linton away, claiming they were just going to look around for a bit. In reality, that "bit" turned into a never-ending tour...
They dashed from one place to another, and when they were finally done for the evening, a group of people dragged them to a bar for karaoke.
Annabelle Linton wanted to call Leona Grant... but her phone had been confiscated.
The official excuse... was that no one should be on their phones during a party, so everyone had to hand theirs in.
And so, Annabelle Linton didn’t get to see Leona Grant at all.
Leona Grant did, in fact, have some business to attend to. After waiting a long time for Annabelle Linton to show up, he eventually had to leave.
At the party, everyone bombarded Annabelle Linton with questions about what she’d been up to over the years.
In truth, Annabelle Linton had given up a great deal for Leona Grant.
She was the youngest of the group, but her academic performance was anything but poor. In fact, she was second only to Quentin Holland himself, because he had personally mentored her.
That was why Annabelle Linton respected him so much.
Furthermore, she had a wonderful personality—unpretentious and gentle. She was, you could say, a girl with an impeccable character, and beautiful to boot. That was why Annabelle Linton was their "little junior."
That’s what everyone called her.
In her past life, Annabelle Linton had stubbornly insisted on returning to Celestia for Leona Grant. If she hadn’t, her fame today would be at least half of Quentin Holland’s.
Quentin Holland was, after all, internationally renowned. Just think, even Leona Grant knew who he was.
The atmosphere was electric all night, but Quentin Holland sat by himself, ignoring everyone.
Annabelle Linton stood rooted to the spot, conflicted. She frowned, unsure of what to say.
"Here."
Mia Holloway pushed two glasses of wine into Annabelle Linton’s hands and whispered, "Annabelle, listen. Don’t mind that our senior was harsh with you today. He actually cares about you a lot. You know, when you were late today, the one thing he kept asking was, ’Has our little junior arrived yet?’"
"Go on, apologize. Our senior has wanted to come find you all these years. He was just angry that you so stubbornly went your own way and left without a word. He’s actually come to Celestia in secret to see you several times over the years. Every time he sees something he thinks you’d like, he buys it. He’ll start to say, ’This would be perfect for Annabelle...’ and then just trail off."
"And he buys you a birthday present every year, he’s just too proud to give it to you. I was the one who called you today, you know. So go apologize. Trust me, our senior won’t have the heart to not forgive you."
