Chapter 504: Forget the Past, Can We Be Okay? 5
A lifetime isn’t long, it really isn’t. And all he wanted was to spend it with her. Was that so wrong?
Hah.
Perhaps it was never a question of right or wrong. It was simply that her heart didn’t belong to him.
If someone doesn’t love you, even if you were to rip your heart out for them to see, they wouldn’t be moved. They’d just be disgusted by the gore.
’Annabelle Linton, you keep saying he’s just your friend, just your friend. You have so many friends, so how come you didn’t marry one of them?’
’The truth is, you’ve been in love with him for a long time. That’s why you’re so desperate to leave me and be with him. I’m just a roadblock in your path, aren’t I?’
’It was me who ruined your romance, wasn’t it?’
A dejected shimmer clouded Leona Grant’s eyes as he looked at her sadly. "Annabelle Linton, what am I to you, really? We’ve been together for so long. Have you ever even cared about me?"
"..." Annabelle Linton suddenly felt completely drained.
’How am I supposed to answer that?’
’I’ve already told him we’re just friends. I’ve explained it so many times. What does he want from me if he refuses to listen?’
Annabelle Linton and Leona Grant were, in fact, the same kind of person.
Cold. Very cold. This type of person might seem cool, aloof, and attractive, but to put it bluntly, they were emotionally dense.
The biggest pitfall in their relationship was that one was prone to overthinking, while the other hated to explain.
Annabelle Linton felt he was just looking for a fight. "Think whatever you want," she said, irritated.
A flash of hurt crossed Leona Grant’s eyes, and he sneered. "So you admit it, don’t you? Annabelle Linton, you do like him, right?"
"Yes, you’re right about everything!" ’He wouldn’t believe her after all those explanations, so what was the point in trying anymore?’ Annabelle Linton decided to throw all caution to the wind. "I like him, and I hate you. Are you satisfied now? Is there anything else?"
’I like him, and I hate you...’
’I like him, and I hate you...’
Her words slammed into his heart, shattering his composure. Filled with anguish, he asked again, "Annabelle Linton, what am I to you, really?"
"What do you think you are? You’re so damn annoying, suspicious all day and night! I mutter something in my sleep, and you obsess over it for this long. Will you ever give it a rest?"
Annabelle Linton’s temper flared. "Yes, you’re right! We’re husband and wife, legally recognized. But I’ve been explaining for ages, and you haven’t heard a single word! You have to raise hell in the middle of the night, calling me a promiscuous, unfaithful wife! It’s ’Aaron Wyatt’ this and ’us having an affair’ that! What the fuck did I do? Did I, Annabelle Linton, murder someone? Did you find me in bed with Aaron Wyatt? Why do you have to make such a scene?"
"I’m asking you, will this ever end? Will it ever end?! Can’t we just move on?!"
"No," Leona Grant denied flatly. "This has to be settled today! I’ve cleared my schedule. You are going to explain everything, word by word. Those few months when I gave you your freedom, you were with him every day. Who knows what you two did? Annabelle Linton, you’d better confess everything now. Don’t make me find out on my own!"
"..." ’Investigate what, my ass.’
She rolled her eyes and, just like she used to, coldly spat out a single word: "Psycho."
But this time, Leona Grant wasn’t amused like he used to be. Instead, his anger surged. ’Disdain, is it? Impatience?’
’Fine. Just fine!’
He clenched his fists and roared, "Annabelle Linton, you’re testing me!"
"So fucking what if I am? You’re annoying as hell! Who do you think you are, bossing me around and yelling at me like this?"
