Chapter 517: The Truth Comes Suddenly 3
Ashley Grant let out a soft laugh. "They say love can cross any distance. We’re in *some* country out there. If you really love your wife so much, you should have the psychic ability to find her. If not... heh."
After sending the message, Ashley Grant nonchalantly switched off her phone. Mission accomplished.
’Did he really think he could track my phone?’
’Dream on.’
’My brother has been trying to catch me for ages. I know all his tricks like the back of my hand... even if I always end up getting caught.’
His wife, the maids, his subordinates, his own little sister... Leona Grant felt the world’s profound malice directed squarely at him.
He was about to explode!
That pair wouldn’t be happy until they’d driven him to an early grave. When he and Annabelle had a child, Leona Grant swore he would raise them right. If the kid turned out anything like Ashley, they’d have no future.
’But I’m getting ahead of myself...’
Annabelle Linton and Ashley Grant shopped a while longer, buying a few outfits before heading back to the hotel as the sun began to set.
Back at the hotel, they had dinner and took showers. The day flew by.
Once everything was done, Annabelle Linton was lounging elegantly on a cream-colored chaise on the balcony, sipping red wine and gazing at the stars.
Nearby, Ashley Grant was busy working on her laptop.
Seeing how engrossed Ashley was, Annabelle raised an eyebrow. "What are you up to?"
Ashley’s eyes remained glued to the screen, a triumphant glint in them. "Making money, of course."
’Making money?’
’Interesting.’
Annabelle set down her wine glass and walked over to her. She could vaguely make out that Ashley was hacking into something on her laptop.
It was a chaotic jumble of code and English letters.
Annabelle remembered that Ryan often messed with this sort of thing.
She couldn’t understand any of it. "This looks way above my pay grade. Could the master deign to give me a hint about what she’s doing?"
A smirk played on Ashley’s lips. Her fingers flew across the keyboard, typing a string of numbers and letters. "I’m hacking my brother’s computer," she said with a grin.
"Your brother?" Annabelle’s whole mood soured at the mention of Leona Grant.
"Mhm," Ashley chuckled. "I installed a special device in my brother’s network junction box. It lets my laptop connect to his network, and from there, I can get into his computer."
She’d risked life and limb to install that special device back in the day.
Thinking back on the perils of installing it, Ashley silently wiped away a mock tear of sorrow.
The memory was truly a painful one. It was just a network junction box, but her brother guarded it like it was Fort Knox. She’d even had to steal the key last time just to open it.
In truth, the security was incredibly tight. Leona Grant was the CEO, after all. If his computer could be hacked so easily, the Grant Group would have gone bankrupt long ago.
This was just another story teaching the valuable lesson that you can never be too wary of others—especially your own family...
Annabelle still didn’t see how this related to making money. "So you hack your brother’s computer... to transfer his money to yourself?"
"How much could I possibly make that way? Wire transfers have limits."
Ashley rolled her eyes and pointed at the screen. "This is one of the game companies my brother owns. I’m secretly stealing one of his upcoming game concepts, then I’ll repackage it and sell it to a rival company.
"Then, I’ll ’discover’ that the concept has been stolen and report it to my brother. He’ll give me a nice reward for the tip. After that, all he has to do is release his game a day ahead of schedule, and the rival company will look like they’re peddling a cheap, plagiarized knock-off. So, I make money, and my brother’s interests aren’t actually harmed. Get it?"
The corner of Annabelle’s mouth twitched. "You are absolutely diabolical..."
’To mess with people like that...’
Ashley was completely unfazed. "I’m just exploiting a weakness in human nature. If they weren’t so eager to plagiarize my brother’s work, my plan wouldn’t work on them, now would it?"
