Chapter 1081 - 1053: What Did You See
Qian even started wondering if her own thoughts had been blessed by some magic?
This was a little too spot-on, wasn’t it?
She had just been thinking about mistresses earlier, and barely a minute before calling Yu Minglang, she’d still been swaggering in her head, thinking that if something like a mistress ever landed on her own head, she’d definitely take down the other woman and kick the scumbag to the curb without hesitation.
But seeing it with her own eyes, she suddenly felt it wasn’t as simple as she’d imagined.
Qian felt that even if she added up all the times she’d ever been shocked in her entire life, it still wouldn’t compare to how shaken she was right now.
It had to be a coincidence; he wouldn’t go as far as to lie to her.
If a man like Yu Minglang could betray his family, then what was left in this world that was still worth trusting?
Qian’s mind was a complete blank at this point, with only one thought in it: if this turned out to be true, she might as well get herself a bomb and go down with the whole world—that kind of childish idea was the only real feeling she had right now.
To hell with professionalism, to hell with composure, to hell with rational analysis...
None of that existed anymore.
All that was left was raw, primitive impulse.
Qian was dying to rush over right now and ask Yu Minglang what the hell was going on.
Jealousy is a woman’s instinct; it has nothing to do with IQ or EQ. The moment she saw what she saw, her first reaction was to find Yu Minglang and confirm what was happening. She wouldn’t casually slap a dirty label on him; instead of letting her imagination run wild, checking with him was the only real way.
Qian was just about to drive over when a large truck rumbled over from the left, completely blocking her line of sight.
By the time the truck rolled past and kicked up a skyful of dust, all Qian could see was the exhaust from Yu Minglang’s car; he’d already gotten back in and was driving farther and farther away from her.
By the time Qian drove after him, his car was already nowhere to be seen.
There were several junctions ahead, and she had no idea which way he’d gone.
A sentence seemed to pop up in her mind just then.
A woman should never track her husband’s whereabouts unless she’s already prepared to get a divorce.
Trust or suspicion—that was the question.
Qian closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
Should she trust him or not.
A second later, Qian pulled the car over to the side of the road and dialed his number.
"Wife, what’s up?"
"I kind of miss you."
On the other end came his muffled laugh. "How come you suddenly sound like some lovestruck little girl?"
"Mm, I dealt with a case about an extramarital affair today. I’m feeling a bit suffocated and wanted to talk to you."
"If you’re feeling suffocated, just come home. I’ll keep you company, talk, drink, whatever you want."
If she hadn’t just seen what she’d seen, this would have been such a warm, cozy phone call. But right now, Qian’s eyes were nothing but icy clear.
"Something just occurred to me. Can you ask your chief secretary to come over? I’d like to have a chat with him."
"Uh..."
He wasn’t even at the office right now; how the hell was he supposed to get the guy to come over?
"How about this, I’ll have him call you back, okay? I’m a bit far away from him at the moment."
Qian let out a dry little laugh. Wasn’t that the truth—he wasn’t at the office at all.
"No need, I’ll call him myself." Before hanging up, Qian added in a flat tone.
"The cases I’ve been handling these past couple of days are all consultations about mistresses breaking up other people’s marriages. I want to ask you, what’s your opinion on betrayal within marriage?"
"Anyone who betrays their marriage is trash. Marriage is a contract with legal effect, one that stipulates mutual loyalty. It doesn’t just hurt feelings; it violates the spirit of the contract. Wife, did you get too emotionally involved with your patients again and can’t pull yourself out?"
Yu Minglang glanced over at the passenger seat. If it weren’t for the beauty sitting there, he really ought to take a leave right now and go to his wife—Qian’s tone didn’t sound quite right, and it made him uneasy.
"Yeah, this time I invested a lot of feelings..."
Her feelings for him had gone beyond what she’d imagined; this man’s impact on her was much greater than she’d expected, and she simply couldn’t rein in her emotions.
It was precisely because she felt too much that, after discovering he’d lied to her, she lost her ability to think clearly. Qian tugged helplessly at the corner of her mouth, forcing down the fury of having been deceived.
He was the only one who could make her this irrational.
Why was it that she could easily untangle other people’s troubles, yet could never solve her own?
"How about I take leave and come find you?"
He really was worried about Qian.
"No need, I’ll handle my own issues. Yu Minglang, I want you to remember one thing."
"What is it?"
Why did she suddenly sound so serious?
"I don’t like being lied to, especially not by someone who loves me. I will never forgive it."
"..." Yu Minglang was so startled he reflexively glanced at his passenger seat. Could it be that his wife had found out about the beauty?
He instinctively looked around left and right, suddenly feeling like he’d been caught by his wife.
The street outside was jammed with cars and people coming and going; there was no sign of Qian anywhere.
"I’m realizing people really shouldn’t lie—one lie always needs more lies to patch it up. I’d better call my chief secretary and line up our stories, so he doesn’t accidentally slip up..."
Qian had just said she wanted to talk to his secretary, and now Yu Minglang was worried that if Qian called the guy, that brat might accidentally spill his whereabouts, which would make it a real mess if Qian found out.
Qian stared at her watch with a blank expression, timing it in her head until she felt it should be about right, then dialed the chief secretary’s number.
Line busy.
Very good, that meant Yu Xiaoqiang was busy coordinating their stories?
A murderous glint flashed across Qian’s face. If Yu Xiaoqiang dared feed her any crap she didn’t need to hear, that kid was dead!
She’d given him a chance to tell the truth, but he’d still chosen to keep things from her.
Since that was the case, he couldn’t blame her for going all in on digging.
That stammering phone call from Dayi earlier—Qian hadn’t paid it much mind at the time, but it suddenly popped into her head now.
Dayi must have seen something, which was why he’d tried to warn her, right?
In other words, whatever Yu Xiaoqiang was sneaking around with behind her back, everyone else already knew, and she was the only one kept in the dark?
Qian gripped her phone and thought for a full few minutes.
To dig, or not to dig—that was the question.
Her feelings pushed her to trust Yu Minglang, but her reason told her to trust only what her own eyes had seen.
Especially after handling the aftermath of her sister-in-law’s situation at home and watching her eldest brother almost capsize his own boat from start to finish, Qian was at a particularly soft spot in her heart. She understood exactly what kind of tortured struggle her sister-in-law had gone through back then.
It was precisely because she cared too much that when something went wrong, her heart would tighten that hard.
Five minutes later, Qian dialed Dayi’s number.
Deep down, she still believed in Yu Minglang. Even if she did dig, it was to prove to herself that she hadn’t loved the wrong man. She didn’t know if the other women who worried about their husbands cheating felt the same way she did now, but Qian had always believed that Yu Minglang would never do anything to betray her.
She just wanted an answer—one that wouldn’t break her heart.
The call went through, and Qian got straight to the point; she knew exactly what approach worked best for someone like Dayi.
"Dayi, I already know about what Yu Minglang has been hiding from me. Please tell me honestly what exactly it was you saw that day."
