Chapter 1034 - 1007: First Encounter
Following the sound, I looked over, and the teenager I saw at the barbecue shop was sitting under the streetlamp, crying his heart out.
The sight was somewhat disheartening.
He had endured a lot of grievances but had nowhere to cry, so he could only find a desolate place to vent.
Qian sighed after seeing this. The affairs of the previous generation always involuntarily become burdens for the next. No one can choose their birth, nor can anyone escape the benefits or drawbacks it brings.
It is said that people are equal, but from the moment of birth, many things have already determined the difference in starting points.
This child was obviously bearing too much responsibility for his father’s sins. Qian could fully imagine the blow to the family when a black sheep appeared, and how the family members were pointed at wherever they went. Such blows could not be vented and were instead dumped on the child.
Before Qian could take action, she felt a gust of wind pass by her. That man of hers, with the face of a domineering CEO but the heart of a warm man, had already walked straight towards the child.
Qian kept watching silently as Yu Minglang chatted with the child. After half an hour, the child wiped away his tears, gave Yu Minglang a shy look, said thank you, brother, and then turned to run towards the direction of the barbecue shop.
Qian observed without stepping forward, nor did she interrupt Yu Minglang. There were quite a few mosquitoes in the park at night, and she got bitten several times, but there was no impatience on her face.
After Yu Minglang dealt with the child’s issue, he looked at Qian, who was expressionless, and explained sheepishly.
"Why didn’t you sit down and wait for me?"
"Sitting down would attract more mosquitoes." The park bench was next to the bushes, and mosquitoes came in flocks.
Only then did Yu Minglang notice she was scratching her arm, realizing that his delicate, young wife had been bitten.
"Let’s hurry home to apply some mosquito repellent—are you mad at me for meddling?"
"Would you stop meddling if I were?"
"I actually think sometimes a small, unintended action from us can change a person’s whole life." Yu Minglang cautiously gauged Qian’s expression, but she appeared quite unyielding.
"To punish you for letting me get bitten by mosquitoes, you’ll sleep on the sofa tonight."
Qian wasn’t actually upset about him chatting with that child, and the mosquito bites were just an excuse; she just wanted to avoid a certain energetic man at night.
Darn it!
Yu Minglang was thunderstruck.
His perks, gone?
"No—wife, aren’t we the sort who does good deeds without expecting recognition? I helped someone; even if you don’t praise me, don’t deprive me of my normal rights!" He still wanted to argue.
"I’m a bad woman, only tending to my own affairs! You, sleep on the sofa tonight!"
Qian felt secretly thrilled inside, haha!
The term "bad woman" is just so handy here!
Watching Yu Minglang at a loss, Qian was secretly delighted the whole way back, maintaining her good mood, even humming a tune while bathing.
But halfway through her bath, she saw someone push open the door, scaring Qian, who quickly reached for a towel to cover up.
"How did you get in—never mind, I won’t ask such a dumb question."
Yu Minglang’s lock-picking skills were put to use!
...Then, lights out here.
Between a couple, there’s nothing that can’t be negotiated, and eventually, Qian forgave someone’s shameless behavior on the condition that no funny business was involved, allowing her to get up timely the next day without a hitch.
It was just when she saw someone’s self-satisfied and slightly annoying expression over breakfast, she felt a bit annoyed, and Qian considered that maybe plucking some of his leg hair might be a good idea.
...
Qian’s external aid was only available for a few days. For the first few days, it was either firefighting efforts or taking leave for meetings, but by the 5th day, she finally got into the main event.
They were granted half an hour to observe the suspect’s interrogation on site, and after studying this person’s behavior for so long, they could finally see it firsthand.
The high-intelligence criminal she was investigating was not only a major economic offender but also involved in many murder cases. This person had extraordinarily high intelligence, a considerable level of education, and even held an important position in a large corporation.
Such a person, with a myriad of halos, had actually committed so many acts inconsistent with his status.
Qian and the others, upon seeing him through the glass, were taken aback.
Carrying so many murder charges, one would imagine, in the ordinary mind, he should look vile and ferocious. Yet this man looked gentlemanly, fair, and even wore glasses, in his early thirties, and was in the prime of his life, with such a good job.
He appeared like a refined person to anyone, yet this seemingly genteel person had committed so many acts, prompting inter-departmental, cross-state joint captures.
At this stage, he was aware of his dire situation; irrefutable evidence meant his fate was sealed, and he couldn’t escape death whether he argued or not, so he seemed especially cooperative during police interrogation, answering whatever was asked.
He even recounted the process of his crimes in a very calm manner.
All of these were stated in a very flat tone, with no emotional fluctuation in his own narration. He held no ounce of guilt towards the victims, yet both the interrogating officers and various experts observing outside were shocked by his evil deeds.
Qian considered herself a cold-hearted woman, yet she felt instinctively uncomfortable upon hearing those brutal means, taking deep breaths as Xiaoqiang’s voice seemed to resonate in her ears.
