Chapter 1105 - 1077: Time to Protect Our Child

Panpan thought about these past days waiting eagerly with his father for the baby in his mother’s belly, and how he enthusiastically prepared stories for his younger siblings. All the thoughts were of past happy moments, yet he felt an indescribable sense of grievance and started to cry as he thought about it.

As a child, he didn’t have very complex awareness, but at this moment, he just wanted to cry, subconsciously afraid of losing all the past goodness.

"I’m not my mom and dad’s child, is that true? So many people around say this; I’ve heard it, but I dare not speak to you about it, Mom. Where exactly did I come from?"

Even though Panpan believed what Dai Yi said, that he wasn’t the child of a bad person, he still harbored deep doubts about his identity. Since he was little, people have always mumbled around him. Sometimes, adults outside thought he was too young and wouldn’t remember, so they spoke without restraint. Yet, this child was smart and remembered things early, and he kept all those words in his heart.

"Your background...," Dai Yi knew that if she insisted he was their biological child, the concept she just swapped in front of him wouldn’t work. The child would continue to suspect that he was the child of a bad person.

"Your background is, in fact, you’re the son of a hero! Your mother was a great hero, but she passed away, so your father adopted you. We didn’t tell you because we were afraid you’d be sad."

Dai Yi fabricated a background, which, though equally cruel, was better than saying his biological father was a bad person.

Sure enough, Panpan stopped crying and looked at Dai Yi with a somewhat confused understanding.

Dai Yi was willing to do anything for her son. She used all the knowledge Qian taught her, from concept swapping to crafting a background suitable for a child, and even used subconscious hypnosis.

Qian once taught her this trick, but Dai Yi seldom had the chance to use it. Little did she expect her first clinical opportunity would be on her own son. At this moment, Dai Yi did not feel she would fail, nor did she feel the usual self-doubt and lack of confidence.

Every mother puts in one hundred percent effort for her son. For Panpan, she was willing to become the world’s strongest and most powerful psychotherapist.

Her husband rushed back in a hurry. He had just returned from a flight, and someone told him there was a significant incident at home. On his way back, all he thought about was his crying wife and their traumatized son.

He originally wanted to protect his family and give them a safe haven when Panpan’s background was first revealed. He was unwilling to tell Dai Yi and Panpan.

Yet, unexpectedly, events took a different turn, and his heart was ablaze with worry.

When he arrived, he found his parents all sitting on the couch with worried faces, but his beloved wife and son were nowhere to be seen.

"Where are Dai Yi and Panpan?"

Mrs. Yu wiped her tears and pointed to the inner room. They went in and didn’t come out; his parents didn’t dare to enter.

He said no more, with a serious expression, quickly went inside.

Mrs. Yu looked at Mr. Yu, also with a worried face, hesitant to speak.

At this moment, everyone in the Yu Family was contemplating today’s events, pondering how to face Panpan, each person lost in thought.

When the door was pushed open, what he saw was shocking.

He had thought Dai Yi and Panpan would be crying in each other’s arms, but they weren’t.

The usually gentle and weak Dai Yi was calmly and professionally hypnotizing the child.

Panpan was already asleep, his eyes closed, appearing quite serene. The little heart that was scared had calmed down. Dai Yi gestured at Yu Mingyi not to make noise, and he softly sat on the bed watching Dai Yi treat their son.

Most of the time, Dai Yi was shrouded in Qian’s halo; her only chance to shine was when she replaced Qian in a competition. Otherwise, she always seemed so humble.

But now, she had burst forth all her potential.

Using professional skills no less than Qian’s, Dai Yi treated Panpan. If Qian were there, she’d marvel at Dai Yi’s ability. Even Qian only dared to treat family members after experiencing guidance from Qio Yu Xuan, but Dai Yi learned it all by herself.

While Panpan slept, his expression relaxed, looking a lot less distraught than when he first came in.

Dai Yi signaled to Yu Mingyi with a gesture towards outside, suggesting they go talk.

"Dai Yi, how is Panpan?" he eagerly asked.

"For now, he’s stabilized. From a psychologist’s perspective, the work is almost done, but that doesn’t mean we’ve won. Our responsibilities as parents are just beginning." Dai Yi said solemnly.

"What do you mean?"

"It means that the doctor can only provide simple guidance, but the future trajectory of this child depends entirely on our careful nurturing. Let me put it this way, raising a successful Panpan equates to the effort of raising three regular children. We must love him without any reservations and let him feel the warmth of a family."

In other families, a casual remark might not linger, but their precious child was already deeply scarred and genetically disadvantaged. Raising a Panpan requires much more effort than a normal child.

Though it seemed like a few words, achieving it would require decades of effort and dedication. Nobody would praise or laud them if done well; if done poorly, it could bring unimaginable disasters to the family.

"I guess you’ve already decided, haven’t you? Let’s say it together." He could guess from Dai Yi’s expression.

"This is our son, and we’ll raise him well." They spoke in unison, then exchanged a look, and he patted Dai Yi’s head with appreciation.

"Dai Yi, you’ve grown up." Previously, he wanted to keep it from her, fearing she couldn’t bear it, but his Dai Yi was no longer the crying little girl from before; she had grown into a towering tree.

"Raising a child is nothing like raising a cat or dog; you can’t just abandon him. He’s come to our home, and that’s our fate. I’m willing to use all I’ve learned in my life to bring this child up well." Dai Yi had never felt as motivated as she did now; she finally found her worth.

She was determined to dive deeper into her profession to help her family. She didn’t need to become as formidable as Qian, daring to take on anything; she just wanted to be a woman who protected her family.

Outside the door, Mr. and Mrs. Yu heard Dai Yi’s words. Mrs. Yu’s eyes reddened again and looked at her husband, torn.

Mrs. Yu feared that her righteous husband might not let their second son raise this child. She shared the same stance as Dai Yi; they had raised this child for so many years, and it was impossible to sever those ties.

"What are you looking at? Go make some food for the child; Panpan will be hungry when he wakes up. Make him some steamed egg custard."

"Honey, you—" Mrs. Yu looked at him with slight surprise.

"What do you mean ’you’? Go make the food! I’ll go to the study to make a few calls. I have to tell them not to speak of today’s incident to anyone. If anyone outside dares to let my grandson hear things he shouldn’t, don’t blame me for flipping out."

This was a promise to protect the child to the end.
