Chapter 1018 - 991: Willing to Move Forward
Yu Minglang immediately used the medical kit he carried to give her a simple bandage; the wound wasn’t particularly deep, but treating it was quite alarming.
"Don’t tell me you went bare-handed against a knife? How did I teach you? Didn’t I teach you self-defense tactics for emergencies? You’re lucky those guys used a blunt knife; if it were sharp, your hand would be completely severed." Having found her, bantering with his own sister was no problem at all.
"Do you think I didn’t want to? If I didn’t act at that moment, what would happen to the driver if he killed him?"
Perhaps her righteous aura intimidated the villain, or maybe the fact that Mingxi, a woman, could shout so resolutely scared him. He hesitated for a moment, but seeing that the person shouting was even more beautiful, he harbored evil intentions with a lecherous grin and approached Xiaoxi. Xiaoxi didn’t indulge him and tussled with him; she managed to seize the knife bare-handed and throw it out the car window.
Immediately after, she threw her phone and wallet out, telling him there was lots of money in the wallet and urging him to pick it up.
While he was busy getting out of the car, she rushed over and drove the car away.
Everything was so thrilling; no one knew whether that drunkard was acting on a whim or had premeditated the carjacking, but carrying a knife onto a ride was suspicious in itself.
"Where did those passengers go? Why did the car appear up ahead?" Yu Minglang asked.
"I drove the car forward, but seeing it catch fire, I had no choice but to turn back. However, the remaining passengers disagreed, stood up against me, saying if we returned, the guy with the knife would catch up." If she forcibly drove back, those people would gang up on her.
After Xiaoxi finished speaking, Yu Minglang and the others were livid.
Are these people pigs?
They didn’t fight back against the villain, and now that someone was rescuing them, they turned against a girl?
"The guy has a knife, but you’re in a car. How could he climb up? What are they afraid of?" Qian questioned perplexedly.
"They said they feared accomplices in pursuit; apparently, these carjackings usually start with one person first, followed by a vehicle with more. He’s the scout, and then a whole car of people arrives." Mingxi didn’t know where these people got this information; in short, a dispute ensued, concluding with Mingxi and the driver hiding, while no one knew where the others went.
She happened upon some hemostatic herbs and bandaged herself and the driver because they had no communication equipment. They concealed their footsteps and waited in a cave for rescue.
"Seems the other passengers fled, so when the villain saw the car still by the roadside, they furiously drove it to the fire."
Yu Minglang had just said that when the driver lying there shot up.
"My car got burned?!"
"Yes."
"My whole family depends on this car; what am I going to do, my car..."
"Is it insured?" Qian asked.
"Yes, but will this be covered? My whole family relies on it..."
The driver was brave for a good cause but ended up injured while his family’s livelihood was threatened, which explains why the passengers were indifferent; overly shrewd people fear losing their interests and even more fear retaliation from villains, so when danger strikes, many choose to stand by.
"I’ll coordinate this, ensuring the relevant department gives you proof. If insurance fails to compensate, our corporation will do so," Yu Minglang assured.
The driver covered his face, crying; he didn’t fully trust Yu Minglang, uncertain of his background, suspecting this was just routine official talk.
In fact, Yu Minglang did exactly that—the driver was later recognized as a heroic citizen, and Yu Minglang offered him a bonus in the Yu Family’s name after bringing the villains to justice and securing a partial compensation, ensuring that good people were not disappointed—this is a tale for another time.
With people located, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Qian stayed to provide psychological treatment to Mingxi, the little girl, and the driver, while Yu Minglang focused intently on firefighting efforts.
The little girl, frightened and trembling, was also questioned by investigators about the situation. Reporters had arrived—the celebrity battling bad guys was undoubtedly the highlight—a swarm of journalists rushed in, even enduring Hai Zhao’s harsh scolding.
Qian and Mingxi sat in the car, watching Hai Zhao berate the crowd; Mingxi wanted to get out.
"He’s never been so angry. Normally, he’s quite smooth; why offend the media suddenly?"
Qian pulled her back, "Don’t go—can’t you see that he’s actually protecting you? Making a smooth-talking person forget to pretend shows there’s something more important in his heart than being slick."
This kind of talk, usually Mingxi didn’t like hearing, but now she felt especially at ease; gazing through the glass at Hai Zhao, her eyes softened considerably.
"You didn’t see the look on his face when he just arrived—the sort of hopelessness that made me doubt; if something truly happened to you, he’d emulate Eastern Invincible and leap into the flames."
Initially touched by Qian’s words, Xiaoxi laughed by the end, with Eastern Invincible quietly slipping into her thoughts.
Qian thought to herself that she owed these years of complimentary hot pot to the help she’d given; it was a worthwhile assist, and if Hai Zhao couldn’t win Xiaoxi over post this, it would be his issue.
Words must be measured or they end up counterproductive; Qian focused on treating the rescued little girl while Mingxi constantly kept an eye on the outside.
The reporters were reluctant to give up such a major story, insisting on approaching. Hai Zhao, pointing to one journalist, angrily berated him, looking like he might physically intervene if they didn’t leave.
"Qian, we’ll do my therapy later."
"Alright."
"I mean, regarding that situation." She had lingered too long; maybe it was time to leave. Mingxi swung the car door open and stepped out decisively.
Qian smiled encouragingly, "I know."
Finally willing to address the emotional knot left during her youth, Xiaoxi gave Hai Zhao his long-awaited chance. While no one could predict the future, at least Mingxi was willing to move forward, which was positive.
"Does chasing me like a bunch of dogs look interesting to you?"
As Xiaoxi got out, she heard Hai Zhao cursing violently, while a group of reporters retaliated verbally; upon seeing Mingxi emerge, their excitement soared like they’d been injected with stimulants, becoming uncontrollable.
With everyone focused on firefighting efforts, no one kept order, causing a lack of control here.
Seeing her come down, Hai Zhao panicked.
"What are you doing here? Get back in the car!"
Yu Mingxi shook her head at him, smiling as she said, "It’s alright, I’ll handle it."
She was quite experienced in dealing with media matters.
"Everyone quiet down and listen to me first."
