Chapter 722 - 725 Confidence and Arrogance [Third Update]
"No matter what you say, I have only one word for you." Luo Tian snorted, spitting out a single word: "Scram!"
Upon hearing this, the seven-year-old girl began to cry even harder. She was young and couldn’t understand why Grandpa Luo Tian was being so harsh with her.
Those who witnessed the scene had complex feelings, their gazes fixed on the little girl with shock and uncertainty. They all wondered whose daughter she could possibly be to provoke such a reaction from Luo Tian. It was well known that Luo Tian and Zheng Zheng had always been on good terms. Yet, for this child’s sake, Master Luo Tian had disregarded their friendship and demanded that Zheng Zheng’s daughter be thrown out. Who exactly was this little girl?
*"This child is mysterious and unfathomable, with a profound background,"* the people murmured among themselves.
The other little girl, however, stood quietly to the side as if the entire incident had nothing to do with her. A faint smile touched her lips, and she maintained the appearance of a perfectly obedient child.
Crying, the seven-year-old girl ran out, determined to find her father, Zheng Zheng, and get her revenge. As long as Father takes action, everything can be resolved. Yes, Father always told me that even if the sky falls, there’s nothing to worry about with him around.
「At that moment」
Zheng Zheng was searching for Ye Qingxian in the surrounding taverns and teahouses. He had only one tavern left to check, unaware that inside, Wu Tian and Ye Qingxian were in the middle of a discussion about wine.
Just as he was about to enter, his daughter found him. "Father!" she cried, her voice thick with sobs.
"Why aren’t you at Grandpa Luo Tian’s house?" Zheng Zheng frowned slightly, puzzled by the sight of his crying daughter. "My dear, what happened? Why are you crying?"
"Grandpa Luo Tian has been deceived," the seven-year-old sobbed. "He misunderstood me and told me to scram."
"What? How could that happen?" Zheng Zheng’s brows furrowed. He pulled his daughter aside and asked gravely, "Are you telling the truth?"
"It’s true, it’s true," the seven-year-old girl nodded.
"It seems I must go back and see for myself," Zheng Zheng said with a sigh.
These words filled the girl with joy. As long as Father comes back to the Luo Mansion with me, everything will be solved. Grandpa Luo Tian will go back to smiling kindly at me, just like before.
Zheng Zheng led his daughter toward the Luo Mansion. The gatekeeper frowned, considering whether to stop them.
"I am Zheng Zheng, a friend of your master. Let me in; I will explain myself," Zheng Zheng said, his expression grim. He looked as if he would fly into a murderous rage if the gatekeeper refused.
The gatekeeper had no choice but to step aside. Whatever happened after Zheng Zheng entered would be for the master to resolve.
Seeing them make way, a small, approving smile touched Zheng Zheng’s lips. "That’s more like it."
"Father is truly amazing!" the seven-year-old girl exclaimed.
Zheng Zheng nodded, looking at his daughter with a serious expression. "Remember, with Father here, there is nothing that cannot be resolved."
"Mhm, yes!" she nodded in agreement.
With that, Zheng Zheng led his daughter inside.
「Meanwhile, in the main hall」
"Now, I, this old man, declare the birthday banquet officially begun!" Luo Tian announced.
The hall fell silent, and everyone immediately cupped their hands in a salute toward Master Luo Tian. "We wish Master Luo Tian a boundless lifespan!"
"Congratulations to Master Luo Tian! May your life be as enduring as the southern mountains!"
"Many happy returns of the day!"
A chorus of congratulations rose from the crowd.
"Everyone, there’s no need for such formality. Please, take your seats," Luo Tian chuckled.
"Thank you."
At his words, the guests all sat down.
Zheng Zheng and his daughter entered the hall at that very moment. Seeing that the banquet had begun, they found an empty spot and sat down. Other matters could wait until after the celebration.
"Father, that’s the child who offended me," the seven-year-old whispered, pointing toward a small figure’s back.
Zheng Zheng looked over and saw the back of a small figure. It seemed vaguely familiar, but he paid it little mind. Children haven’t finished growing yet. Their backs all look more or less the same, don’t they?
"Don’t you worry. Father will help you get even in a little while," Zheng Zheng said confidently.
"But I’m afraid Grandpa Luo Tian will help her," the seven-year-old girl said worriedly, the memory of Luo Tian’s harsh words making her fearful.
"Relax. What kind of status could that child possibly have? Can it compare to my friendship with Luo Tian?" Zheng Zheng scoffed with a confident smile.
His daughter still seemed unconvinced.
Zheng Zheng shook his head and whispered, "What do you know? My friendship with Luo Tian isn’t something she can compare to. In a moment, when Luo Tian realizes I’ve brought you, he will personally invite us to sit at the host’s table."
At that time, the host’s table, where Luo Tian sat, was occupied solely by members of the Luo family.
No sooner had Zheng Zheng finished speaking than Luo Tian suddenly stood up from his seat. "Now, I would like to invite someone to join us at the host’s table."
In the crowd, Zheng Zheng smiled at his daughter. "See? My relationship with Luo Tian is beyond your imagination."
Just then, Luo Tian’s voice rang out again, but his words were directed at the other little girl. He smiled and asked, "I wonder if this little friend would be willing to sit at the host’s table?"
"What?"
Zheng Zheng’s face fell. How could this be? This shouldn’t be happening!
The others in the hall, while having anticipated something like this, still had looks of shock.
"Father, you see? Master Luo Tian trusts her so much."
Zheng Zheng snorted. He looked over but could only see the child’s back.
The little girl took a seat at the host’s table, her back still facing Zheng Zheng. Luo Tian immediately began to fawn over her, attentively asking if the dishes were to her liking.
"Father... I... I’m so envious," the seven-year-old girl whispered, watching the scene with utter envy.
"Envious of what? Luo Tian simply hasn’t noticed my arrival," Zheng Zheng snorted dismissively. "Once he sees me, everything will be fine. He’ll come over to welcome me personally."
"Really?" the girl asked, her voice now filled with doubt.
"Heh," Zheng Zheng chuckled and said no more. He would let the facts speak for themselves.
A procession of exquisite dishes was brought to the tables. Halfway through the feast, the time for presenting gifts began.
One man stood up and announced with a clear laugh, "I, the Great General of the Wuji Kingdom from the Domain of Myriad Demons, wish you success in all your endeavors. On behalf of the Wuji Kingdom, I present the Golden Crown Brush!"
"The Golden Crown Brush?" the crowd exclaimed in awe.
The Golden Crown Brush was renowned for its miraculous effectiveness when used to inscribe Formation Patterns. Legend had it that after each King of Wuji passed away, he would leave behind his rooster-like crest, from which these very brushes were crafted.
"I, representing the Azure Sea Nation from the Artifact Domain, offer this Azure Ink!" another person stood and declared.
Again, a wave of astonishment went through the crowd. Azure Ink was indeed an excellent tool for engraving Formation Patterns.
One after another, guests rose to present their gifts.
At the same time, the little girl at the head table thought for a moment and then piped up, "I have something for you, too. Give me a brush and some paper."
The crowd was perplexed. What was this child planning to give? *Is she going to offer a piece of calligraphy? Could a child’s work possibly be worth anything?*
