Bang!

Stones and dirt blasted into the air as, from beneath the ground, a gigantic insect over six meters long burst out.

The insect’s body was flat, pitch-black all over. A pair of mandibles full of jagged teeth grew from its head, and three black tentacles stretched out from its back, lashing wildly in the air.

At the tip of each of those three tentacles was a gaping bloody maw lined with dense serrated teeth, dripping green saliva, looking absolutely disgusting.

"Damn, this bug is nauseating as hell!"

Song Yun came to a stop and frowned at the giant monstrosity in front of him.

"Run! That’s Jagged, the Insect Spirit Clan’s guardian beast."

All of a sudden, a shout came from behind—it was Lang Hai’s voice.

That bastard had barely been in his warrior form for less than a minute and he was already running again. If he weren’t busy dealing with Chong Li, Song Yun would’ve rushed over and beaten him up.

"Heh, kid, I’ve gotta admit, your body is pretty damn tough. But no matter how strong you are, there’s no way you can beat Jagged."

Standing on the back of the guardian beast called Jagged, Chong Li looked down at Song Yun and shouted, "Jagged, kill him."

The order was given, but what puzzled Song Yun was that Jagged didn’t move at all, as if it had entered some kind of trance.

When something’s off, there’s always a catch. Song Yun instantly raised his guard.

Rumble.

Suddenly, there was a noise from underground.

Song Yun’s expression changed. He unleashed Phantom Step and quickly shifted to the side.

Just as he dodged, a tentacle burst out from beneath the ground.

He didn’t even have time to catch his breath when another rumble came from under his feet. He dodged again, and yet another tentacle drilled out of the earth.

And right in the path he was moving along, a third tentacle broke through the ground.

"Shit!"

Song Yun couldn’t help cursing as he twisted his waist to dodge.

The tentacle skimmed right past him, almost hitting him.

His figure flickered as he landed beside Lang Xiaoran and looked at those three tentacles.

Where did these three tentacles come from?

Song Yun glanced at that disgusting insect and finally noticed that there were another three tentacles on its abdomen.

Just now it had quietly extended those tentacles underground to launch a sneak attack on him.

"What the hell is this thing?!"

Song Yun frowned.

Lang Xiaoran’s expression was grave as she said slowly, "This is one of the Insect Spirit Clan’s guardian beasts. It’s called Jagged."

"It’s at the late SSS stage, with extremely powerful combat strength—absolutely not in the same league as those beasts from earlier."

"Especially its six tentacles—they’re unpredictable and coordinate their attacks. It’s terrifying."

"Looks like this Jagged was sent by the Insect Spirit Clan Chief to stay by Chong Li’s side and protect him."

Speaking up to this point, Lang Xiaoran looked at Song Yun, worried. "Song Yun, you should run. This Jagged isn’t something you can deal with easily."

Song Yun’s eyes rolled as he said, "Xiaoran, in that case, this Jagged shouldn’t have signed that... Beast Spirit Contract with Chong Li, right?"

Song Yun didn’t really know what a Beast Spirit Contract was, but he’d heard Lang Hai mention it before. It should mean you need to sign a contract to fully control a beast.

Lang Xiaoran nodded. "This Jagged belongs to Chong Li’s father. It definitely hasn’t signed a Beast Spirit Contract with Chong Li."

Song Yun said, "If that’s the case, then Chong Li shouldn’t be able to command this Jagged like his own arm, and he can’t use ’Beast Art: Puppet’ on it either, right?"

"Right." Lang Xiaoran nodded, then asked suspiciously, "Song Yun, why are you asking this?"

Song Yun’s lips curled into a faint smile. "Relax and leave it to me. Killing Jagged might not be easy, but if it’s just killing Chong Li and then forcing Jagged to retreat, I already have a plan."

With that, Song Yun activated Phantom Step. His figure blurred as he charged toward Chong Li and Jagged.

"Hmph, Jagged is a guardian beast. You think you can beat it?!"

Chong Li stood steadily on Jagged’s back, glaring viciously at Song Yun.

"Roar!"

No one knew where Jagged’s voice actually came from, but a low growl rang out as its six tentacles attacked Song Yun from above and from beneath the ground at the same time.

The six tentacles moved incredibly fast, their encircling attack forming a true Heaven and Earth Net.

If Song Yun slipped even a little, he would very likely be hit.

For it to be called Jagged, Song Yun was sure the serrated teeth at the ends of those tentacles had to be insanely deadly.

Even though he’d cultivated the Primordial Technique, he still hadn’t reached the first level. If he got bitten, even if he didn’t die, he’d be losing a layer of skin.

In that instant, he pushed Phantom Step to the limit, leaving behind only a fading afterimage streaking past.

Boom boom boom boom...

Tentacles kept pounding the ground and bursting out from underground, blasting this whole area until the earth was torn open and completely unrecognizable.

Luckily, Song Yun wasn’t hit; every time he dodged, it was by the skin of his teeth.

As he closed in on Sawtooth, Chong Li roared, "Sawtooth, stop him!"

Whoosh.

A blurred afterimage flashed.

In the next instant, Song Yun had already appeared on Sawtooth’s back, standing right next to Chong Li.

"Get the hell down!"

Chong Li barked coldly, swinging his palm as a punch shadow in the shape of an insect appeared and smashed toward Song Yun.

Song Yun’s body shifted aside to dodge, and the punch shadow hit nothing.

Right at that moment, Sawtooth’s tentacle whipped toward Song Yun’s back. Song Yun flickered away, but the punch shadow landed squarely on Sawtooth’s tentacle.

That strike didn’t manage to injure Sawtooth, but it did enrage it.

"Roar!"

Sawtooth let out a low, furious bellow; its tentacles sped up, going completely berserk. The three tentacles above swept sideways, scything toward its own back.

"Fell for it!"

Song Yun’s brows lifted. He immediately used Phantom Step; his figure shifted, leaving Sawtooth’s back.

However, Sawtooth’s tentacles were incredibly fast.

One of them lashed across Song Yun’s body.

The power of that blow was terrifying, tearing through the defense of Song Yun’s Primordial Technique and whipping him so hard he spat blood, flying far off into the distance.

Even though Song Yun cultivated the Primordial Technique, he still hadn’t reached the first layer and couldn’t make up for the massive gap in realm between them.

The three tentacles didn’t stop; they kept sweeping toward Sawtooth’s own back.

Their target turned out to be Chong Li, who was still standing there.

Chong Li’s face twisted in terror and confusion as he roared, "Sawtooth, stop!"

But Sawtooth didn’t heed his command; all three tentacles slapped down on his body at the same time.

Splat.

Chong Li’s body was directly smashed into an explosion of gore, torn to pieces.

Sawtooth seemed to have completely lost its mind. The giant maw at the end of its tentacle opened wide and devoured Chong Li’s remains in one gulp.

Seeing this, everyone was stunned.

No one had expected Sawtooth to actually take out Chong Li.

Lang Xiaoran snapped out of it, hurrying over to help up the blood-soaked Song Yun, shouting, "Song Yun, how are you?"

Song Yun’s breath was weak as he said, "That disgusting thing really lives up to being a late-stage sss-level beast. Too damn fierce. But I’m not dying yet."

Lang Xiaoran asked anxiously, "What do we do now? Chong Li’s dead—how are we supposed to deal with Sawtooth?"

"Relax, it’ll leave."

Song Yun’s breath was ragged, but his expression was rock-steady.

As soon as he spoke, Sawtooth did exactly as Song Yun had predicted. It let out a shrill roar, completely ignored the Insect Spirit Clan, and fled into the distance, vanishing into the forest.

This scene left everyone baffled.

With Chong Li dead, the Insect Spirit Clan had lost its edge.

At this moment, Lang Hai again put on the brave-warrior act, bellowing, "Kill! Take out these Insect Spirit Clan bastards!"

"Roar, roar, roar..."

"Awooo."

"Kill!"

The Wolf Spirit Clan and the giant wolves lunged at the Insect Spirit Clan.

Having lost their leader, the Insect Spirit Clan had lost their will to fight and were quickly routed by the Wolf Spirit Clan. Most were slaughtered; only two or three managed to escape.

The battle that had been so fierce just moments ago quickly fell silent again.

Lang Hai ran to Lang Xiaoran’s side, wearing a face full of concern. "Miss Xiaoran, don’t worry, I’ve already taken care of the Insect Spirit Clan."

Lang Xiaoran glanced at Lang Hai and, remembering his repeated flip-flopping earlier, felt a wave of disgust.

She ignored Lang Hai and helped Song Yun sit up, taking out some healing Elixir Pills. "Song Yun, hurry and take your medicine."

Seeing the Elixir Pills, Song Yun’s eyes lit up.

Right now he was heavily injured; maybe he could take advantage of it, swallow the Elixir Pills, and see if he could frenziedly absorb them.

He had already used up all the Elixir Pills on him, so he could only say to Lang Xiaoran, "Xiaoran, if you have any Elixir Pills for cultivation, take them all out and give them to me."
