"I have a question for you, Mr. Varley. I hope you don’t mind."
Von was sitting comfortably on a plush chair, facing a mirror.
An older woman stood right behind him, holding a set of brushes and getting ready to do his makeup.
Standing by his side was Nancy. She was a coordinator and was responsible to manage him for this commercial.
Today, Von was about to shoot a commercial for a popular hair product company.
This gig was a direct part of Emily’s arrangement. She needed to grow his money faster so they could afford the upfront costs of his upcoming tour, and quick commercial shoots were the best way to bring in large checks.
Many companies desperately wanted Von to work with them. Especially recently, after seeing how insanely good he looked when Perfect Ruins dropped official pictures.
Most people in the industry would easily admit that Von was the most charming rising celebrity right now, and nobody would even try to debate it.
He had gotten several high-paying offers over the last week. However, he had ruled out all the clothing and apparel companies given his new status as a Vanguard shareholder.
It would be a conflict of interest. Instead, they accepted a deal from Lumina, an international hair care company known for its premium restorative oils and styling gels.
They were paying Von to advertise their new men’s styling cream.
Von looked at Nancy through the mirror and smiled calmly. "Ask away, Nancy."
Nancy couldn’t help but suppress a blush seeing Von smile at her that way. He had a natural charm that was hard to ignore.
She quickly turned her head slightly to hide her embarrassment before speaking.
"Please, I really want to know, what hair product do you use? I’ve been in this industry for years, and I’ve never seen dark hair as full and healthy as yours. The texture is something else entirely. It’s crazy."
Nancy’s eyes were fixed on Von’s hair through the mirror out of pure admiration.
Secretly, she also wanted to know what rival company was doing better than them. She believed that if she got the brand’s name, it could help Lumina improve the quality of their own formulas.
But Von simply smiled again.
"Hair products? I don’t have any. I’m not a fan of those things."
Nancy’s eyes widened hearing Von’s answer. She didn’t believe him for a second.
"You don’t have a hair care routine??" she asked in shock.
"It’s... really hard to believe. I mean, there has to be something you put in it. What shampoo do you use then?"
"I don’t use any shampoo. Just good ol’ bathing soap."
His answer made Nancy confused. She stared at him, trying to see if he was joking.
"So you use the same wash for your body on your hair?"
"Yeah, exactly," Von nodded casually. "You don’t really need too much, to be honest. Just wash your hair properly every time you have a bath. Then allow nature to take its course."
It felt absurd to Nancy that she was receiving hair care advice when she worked with the best chemists in the country.
And even though she disagreed with his simple methods, his words still made her have some doubt.
He was speaking from experience, and Von’s majestic eight inches of hair was a testament that his methods were actually working.
Nancy didn’t even know what to say to him at that point.
"You’re just blessed with great hair, I guess," Nancy finally sighed. She hesitated for a moment.
"Can I touch it?"
Nancy immediately closed her mouth after asking the last part. She thought she was being highly unprofessional by making that request to a celebrity client, but Von just chuckled, much to her relief.
"Yeah, sure. Don’t pull it though," he joked.
Nancy beamed like a child. She reached out and gently caressed his hair for a few seconds, experiencing its incredible softness and rich texture before stepping aside to leave him to prepare for the shoot.
She looked between the makeup artist and Von.
"His hair is perfect, so let it just stay the way it is," Nancy instructed the makeup artist.
"If we’re being honest, he doesn’t even need any makeup at all. His skin is flawless. Just cleanse his face to keep it fresh so he can start shooting."
The older woman nodded in agreement. Von didn’t argue, so Nancy happily left the room to check on the camera crew.
With the job only being a basic face cleanse to keep him looking fresh under the studio lights, Von spent only ten minutes in the chair before he walked out to shoot the commercial.
The shooting process went really fast. The director didn’t need to hold his hand or give him a lot of directions, courtesy of Von’s acting experience.
Von knew exactly how to find his lighting, how to look directly into the lens, and how to deliver his short lines with total charisma.
In just over an hour, Von had completely wrapped up the shoot. He said his goodbyes to the crew and walked out into the bright afternoon sun.
Ten minutes later, Von was cruising down the highway in his Porsche 718 Boxster Convertible.
It was a dark-blue sports car with an open roof that he had purchased a few months ago. He enjoyed riding in it much more than his Cadillac SUV.
The Porsche was small, agile, and hugged the road perfectly.
He especially liked the fast speeds he could hit with this baby.
As he merged onto the main road at flying speed, blasting songs through the speakers, Von’s mind began to wander.
He imagined how much better an expensive Ferrari would feel if this Porsche was already this good.
’One day, I’ll be able to afford those,’ Von promised himself with a smirk as the warm Miami air hit his face. And he knew that day was coming very soon.
He drove toward the Wynwood art district of Miami. He sped past the famous Wynwood Walls, an area known for its colorful graffiti murals, fashion boutiques, and trendy warehouses. It was the perfect creative environment.
It had been exactly six days since he traveled to New York to face the Vanguard board of directors. A lot had happened since that boardroom meeting.
Zack, being the ruthless lawyer that he was, had successfully fought the executives and kept the full 25% profit share Von demanded for his sub-label. They had finalized and signed all the contracts, with every single term being highly favorable to Von.
Now, his newly formed fashion team were officially in Miami. Vanguard had rented a massive, open-floor studio space for them right in the heart of Wynwood.
Von was finally driving over to meet them at the assigned building for the very first time.
As he navigated the busy streets, his mind was racing with designs. He had already envisioned the entire clothing collection he was going to release. He knew exactly what fabrics he wanted and what could break the internet.
Now, all that was left was to walk into that studio and pitch his futuristic ideas to his new team.
’This will sell like hotcakes,’ Von thought to himself with a wide grin, pressing his foot down on the gas pedal and flying across the roads at even higher speeds.
