Chapter 302: A Chance to Choose
Receiving a definite answer from Yun Zijin, Zhu Yuehua and Cheng Yushu’s faces lit up with pleasant surprise.
Given their family backgrounds and usual social circles, it was difficult for them to get close to Lu Yunque and his friends; they couldn’t even get into Lu Yunfeng’s circle.
But they never expected to succeed by chance, making contact through Yun Zijin.
However, they owed it all to Su Mengyao, who had served as the bridge allowing them to meet Yun Zijin in the first place.
"Sister Yun, I’m here!"
While the girls were chatting, the door to their private room was suddenly flung open, and a highly recognizable male voice rang out.
Yun Zijin glanced at Su Mengyao.
As soon as the voice faded, Sheng Yang, Lu Yunfeng, Fu Yang, and Li Yue Xuan filed in through the doorway, with Creach following behind them.
"If you guys break my door, you’ll pay for it ten times over."
With Sheng Yang’s crude habit of kicking doors open, even the sturdiest one was bound to be destroyed by them eventually.
"My brother and his crew aren’t here?"
Lu Yunfeng immediately scanned the room for any sign of Lu Yunque. As long as his older brother wasn’t present, he could let loose and cause some trouble.
"They’re not here yet."
But they’re already on their way. With Dijing’s traffic, though, it’s impossible to estimate their exact arrival time.
However, as soon as Lu Yunfeng and his friends heard that Lu Yunque was on his way, their urge to get wild immediately died down.
"Sheng Yang, come sit!"
Su Mengyao’s eyes lit up when she saw Sheng Yang. She patted the seat next to her, inviting him to sit down.
Lu Yunfeng and the other two shot Sheng Yang a teasing look. "Go on and sit. It would be rude not to oblige after she invited you."
Su Mengyao flashed Sheng Yang a brilliant smile.
Sheng Yang felt as if he’d been blinded by her smile. He quickly looked away and, as if unable to refuse, sat down about a fist’s-width away from Su Mengyao.
This distance prevented any inappropriate physical contact, but they were still close to each other.
"What a pain."
He sounded annoyed, but his actions betrayed his words—a textbook example of someone saying one thing and doing another.
Yet, this small, subtle response was enough to make Su Mengyao incredibly happy, and her smiling eyes seemed to be filled with stars.
Qin Sitong nudged Yun Zijin’s waist with her elbow. "It’s been so long. How have they still made no progress?"
It was an open secret that Su Mengyao liked Sheng Yang, so Qin Sitong was truly impressed by how the two had stubbornly gone this long without any developments.
"How would I know?"
She and Lu Yunque had only officially gotten together after their blind date; it was as if their landlady had given them a shot of ripening agent to speed things along.
This was her first relationship; how could she possibly be experienced in other people’s romantic affairs?
"Have you guys ordered anything? Should we get some food to tide us over?"
They still didn’t know when Lu Yunque’s group would arrive, so Lu Yunfeng suggested ordering some simple food first so the others wouldn’t have to go hungry.
"Let’s have the kitchen prepare some simple snacks or desserts. Do you guys want to drink?"
Everyone present was an adult; there was no one who couldn’t drink.
"Let’s wait until my brother and his friends get here to order alcohol. Anything else is fine."
Sheng Yang thought it would be better to wait for Lu Yunque’s group to arrive before ordering drinks.
After all, everyone had different tastes. It would be truly awkward if they ordered something that Lu Yunque and the others didn’t like.
"It’s fine. We can order ours now, and they can order theirs when they get here. It’s not like that’s a conflict."
To Yun Zijin, one more or one less bottle of alcohol made no difference.
"In that case, we won’t hold back!"
Lu Yunfeng picked up a tablet, opened the menu, and began to place an order.
"By the way, Sister Yun, I heard you say this is to celebrate buying that plot of land in the South Suburb?"
When Sheng Yang first heard the news, he thought it had to be fake.
But when he actually received Yun Zijin’s invitation to celebrate, he belatedly realized it was true.
"Of course. Didn’t I make my intentions clear a long time ago? It took so long to finally get the land, I feel like I’m being inefficient."
Yun Zijin had, to put it mildly, expended a great deal of effort for this South Suburb land.
"You really bought it! That’s Sister Yun for you."
Only Yun Zijin had the audacity to buy a plot of land that everyone else was sure would be a money pit.
"So, Sister Yun, what do you plan to do with the land?"
The Xia family’s previous plans are surely unusable; they couldn’t even find a single investor.
"I’ve said it before. I’m going to build my own manor on it."
Yun Zijin had never wavered from her original intention for buying the South Suburb land.
Now that someone had asked, Yun Zijin was able to answer with unwavering conviction.
Su Mengyao and the others stared wide-eyed. "You’re really building a manor? Doesn’t that mean all that money you spent on the land is just going down the drain?"
Cheng Yushu blurted out, but she quickly covered her mouth.
After all, losing that kind of money wasn’t a privilege everyone could afford.
"It’s fine. It’s still within what I can handle."
Yun Zijin had nothing if not an enormous amount of money in her account. She could afford to take this loss.
"So, Sister Yun, when do you plan to start construction? You can come to me for any materials you need. I believe the Lu Family has a construction company under its banner."
Lu Yunfeng offered no comment on Yun Zijin’s decision to buy the South Suburb land, but his actions told her that he supported her.
Yun Zijin waved a hand. "No need. I have someone preparing all of that for me."
Since Yan Shutang was the person in charge of Tang Zhaosong’s research project, he would definitely need to follow up on the laboratory’s construction every day.
And all the things Yun Zijin needed, like building materials and so on, would be sourced and procured by Yan Shutang.
Yun Zijin was just the one paying for it all.
Yun Zijin was quite satisfied with this arrangement.
She didn’t need to worry about sourcing the materials; she just had to provide the funds.
Besides, with Mei Lin keeping an eye on things from start to finish, Yun Zijin wasn’t worried that Yan Shutang would rip her off.
「At half-past six, Fu Ze arrived.」
Seeing that Fu Yang was also present, Fu Ze arched an eyebrow slightly.
"Brother!"
Fu Yang greeted him obediently, silently putting the wine glass in his hand back on the table.
"Mm."
"Hello, Mr. Fu. I’m Cheng Yushu, a friend of Zijin’s."
"From the Cheng family?"
There was indeed a Cheng family in Dijing; he just didn’t know if Cheng Yushu belonged to that particular one.
"Yes, my father is Cheng Cailin."
Fu Ze nodded, indicating he understood, but said nothing more.
"Mr. Fu, I’m Zhu Yuehua, a friend of Zijin’s. I’m not sure if you remember, but we met at the Lu family patriarch’s birthday banquet."
Zhu Yuehua’s approach was far more clever than Cheng Yushu’s.
However, as the heir to the Fu Family, Fu Ze had met all sorts of people; he saw through a move like Zhu Yuehua’s in a single glance.
