Chapter 290: Xia Zhengguang Asks Mr. Shen for a Capital Injection
"Given the recent events at the company, some of us in management have begun to doubt whether Chairman Xia and the young Mr. Xia are capable of running the company."
Xia Zhengguang glanced at the shareholder who had spoken. He was already balding and was just a minor shareholder with only 5% of the shares.
"Fine. Let’s put it to a vote."
Outwardly, Xia Zhengguang said nothing, but inside, he was screaming hysterically.
’They say we’re incapable? Then who was it that built the Xia family’s company to its current scale?’
’Just one accidental mistake in judgment, and these people dismiss all the years of effort my son and I have put in. Easy for them to say!’
’If it’s so easy to manage, why don’t they try sitting in this seat themselves!’
’There’s a reason some people can only ever be minor shareholders.’
"All in favor of changing the leadership, raise your hands."
The shareholder who proposed it raised his own hand.
The others exchanged glances, then, one by one, more hands went up.
The expressions on Xia Zhengguang’s and Xia Zhiyun’s faces were not pleasant.
"Based on share ownership, my son and I hold a combined 51%, while the rest of you hold 49%. Therefore, this proposal is rejected."
Banking on the fact that no one knew he had sold his shares, Xia Zhengguang used his supposed stake to suppress the dozen or so people across from him.
A slight smile touched Xia Zhiyun’s lips. This outcome was exactly what he had expected.
The other shareholders’ faces fell instantly. If that was the case, then today’s board meeting was a complete waste of time.
"Hmph! If the South Suburb problem isn’t resolved, I’m definitely pulling my investment!"
All this fuss, and nothing was accomplished. This board meeting had been pointless.
The problem had dragged on for so long that many of the board members were already planning their exit strategies.
’The only question is whether I can even sell off the shares I’m holding.’
As he watched the shareholders leave the meeting room one by one, Xia Zhengguang’s expression gradually turned grave.
"Dad, you said you’d handle the money issue. Do you have a plan?"
Xia Zhiyun hadn’t had a chance to speak during the meeting, but he had listened carefully to everything.
"You don’t need to worry about it. I have my own way."
He couldn’t mention selling the shares, and of course, no one could know about Mr. Shen’s existence.
Besides, Xia Zhengguang didn’t know if he would succeed. He could only hope he could persuade Mr. Shen to inject capital into the Xia family’s company.
Poor Xia Zhengguang. To this day, he hadn’t realized that the so-called Mr. Shen was just a smokescreen thrown up by Lu Yunque.
"Dad, please don’t do anything foolish."
Xia Zhiyun had a nagging feeling that his father was hiding something from him, but after thinking for a long time, he couldn’t figure out what it could be.
"Alright, don’t overthink it. The meeting’s over. Go take care of your own business."
Xia Zhengguang sent Xia Zhiyun away and returned to his office.
He took out his phone, found Mr. Shen’s number in his contacts, and made the call.
It wasn’t long before someone picked up.
"Hello! Mr. Shen?"
"Chairman Xia, what can I do for you at this hour?"
Mr. Shen was already in Country D, but he hadn’t left his phone behind; he’d brought it with him.
When he contacted Xia Zhengguang, he always used his real information.
After all, for something as important as selling shares, Xia Zhengguang was sure to have done his due diligence.
In any case, all his communications from beginning to end had been genuine; he had just turned around and sold the shares afterward.
Even if Xia Zhengguang eventually figured it out, there was nothing he could do about it.
’You were the one who wanted to sell the shares. The money was paid, the contract was signed. The deal is done.’
This was why Mr. Shen wasn’t afraid to take Xia Zhengguang’s call at all.
"Mr. Shen, I know this call is sudden and perhaps a bit presumptuous."
’It is rather presumptuous,’ Mr. Shen thought.
"No matter. Chairman Xia, please feel free to say whatever is on your mind."
"I was wondering if Mr. Shen has any thoughts on investing in the Xia family’s company? You can name any conditions you may have; everything is negotiable."
Mr. Shen was arguably the last hope Xia Zhengguang could cling to.
"Ah! I’m currently abroad and don’t plan on returning anytime soon. However, if Chairman Xia needs investors, I can make some introductions for you."
At first, hearing Mr. Shen say he was abroad made Xia Zhengguang’s heart sink.
But when he heard that he could introduce investors, Xia Zhengguang’s hope was rekindled.
"If you’re willing to help, that would be wonderful!"
If he could get more investors, the chances of the Xia family’s company surviving this crisis would be much higher.
"Let me call them. I’ll have to hang up with you for now."
"Of course, of course. Please, go ahead."
After hanging up, a joyful expression appeared on Xia Zhengguang’s face.
He never expected that calling Mr. Shen would lead to such a pleasant surprise.
What Xia Zhengguang didn’t know was that after hanging up, Mr. Shen immediately called Mo Bin.
「Lu Group.」
Mo Bin had just finished reporting to Lu Yunque. He had left Lu Yunque’s office and returned to his own desk when his phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID "Mr. Shen," Mo Bin was a little surprised.
’We got him into the most prestigious art academy in Country D, could there be some kind of problem?’
Since the man had been a great help, Mo Bin answered the call.
Five minutes later, Mo Bin hung up with a complicated expression on his face.
’That Xia Zhengguang, he’s really just begging for his own downfall.’
’An injection of capital is certainly possible, but there will be demands regarding the number of shares.’
Mo Bin excitedly entered Lu Yunque’s office and reported what Mr. Shen had just told him over the phone.
Lu Yunque’s expression mirrored Mo Bin’s from moments ago. Clearly, he had never imagined that Xia Zhengguang would serve up such an opportunity to them on a silver platter.
"Don’t tell Zijin yet. When she gets here, I’ll tell her myself."
It would be a real shame if Yun Zijin missed such a golden opportunity.
"Yes, President."
Mo Bin almost lost his composure. Fortunately, he made it out of Lu Yunque’s office before he burst out laughing.
*
「Dijing University.」
Yun Zijin had just finished class and was walking out of the academic building with Qin Sitong.
"Zijin! Zijin! Quick, look at this!"
Qin Sitong had been scrolling through her phone when she stumbled upon a video of Xia Jiajiao selling her second-hand luxury goods.
Setting aside everything else, just seeing Xia Jiajiao’s entire cabinet of handbags left Qin Sitong speechless.
’Poverty really does limit one’s imagination.’
"What is it?"
Yun Zijin turned to look at Qin Sitong.
Qin Sitong shoved her phone right in front of Yun Zijin’s face. "This video, I just happened to scroll past it. She pixelated her face, but that voice is definitely Xia Jiajiao’s."
Yun Zijin glanced at the video Qin Sitong was showing her, then raised an eyebrow slightly.
"What made her decide to start selling second-hand goods?"
Even though the truth about their identities had come out, Xia Jiajiao couldn’t be so poor that she had to sell her bags to cover living expenses, right?
Xia Zhengguang might cut her off after finding out he’d been cuckolded, but Xia Zhiyun was Xia Jiajiao’s half-brother from the same mother. He wouldn’t possibly refuse her money.
"Who knows?"
Qin Sitong was just surprised to see it. But it’s not like the girl was stealing or robbing anyone, so Qin Sitong didn’t see anything wrong with it.
