Chapter 421 - 394: What Does This Reward Mean?
But on second thought, it made sense. After all, his plane was affiliated with Southern Airlines. An incident that big was bound to attract media attention. Even if the domestic media kept quiet, the foreign press would still cover it.
Later, when he had an A380 modified, it became even more impossible for his father-in-law not to know.
But from the looks of it, Father Bai hadn’t told his parents. He probably knew Chenyi didn’t want to worry them.
"What do you mean, careless like in Dubai? What happened in Dubai?"
Upon hearing Father Bai’s words, Mrs. Fang, who was sitting nearby, couldn’t help but ask.
Her daughter had been acting a little strange after coming home, but no matter what she asked, she wouldn’t say anything, only that she was exhausted from the trip. Later, her daughter left for school, and since nothing else seemed amiss, she hadn’t thought much of it.
Hearing Father Bai’s words today suddenly brought the matter back to her mind.
Hearing his mother’s question, Fang Chenyi found himself in a bind. He really didn’t want his family to know about what had happened.
Fortunately, the nearby Father Bai understood what Fang Chenyi was thinking. He knew there was no point in bringing up something from the past and worrying everyone, so he smiled and said:
"Heh, last time in Dubai, a thief got onto the plane. It’s not like being at home; you just have to be extra careful about everything when you’re abroad."
The first part was for Mrs. Fang’s benefit, while the second was another reminder for Fang Chenyi.
After hearing her in-law’s words, Mrs. Fang nodded in understanding. ’So they just ran into a thief. No wonder my daughter seemed to be hiding something. She must have been afraid I’d worry.’
The hotpot dinner was a joyous and cheerful affair, filled with laughter.
Father Bai, who originally planned to return to Southern Airlines the next day, postponed his trip for two more days. At Fang Chenyi’s request, he and the others, including Menghan, were to accompany Father Fang to Huawei to help him quickly take over matters there.
As for the collaborative project that the people in Dubai wanted with Southern Airlines, Fang Chenyi just made a call to Demo Did and had him contact the person in charge directly. There was no need for further negotiation. All that was left was for Father Bai to return and sign the prepared contract.
By the time they finished the hotpot, it was already past ten. After leading Bai Menghan back to their bedroom, he didn’t pester her again, since they’d already had an intense session that afternoon. Remembering he was leaving for South Africa the day after tomorrow, Fang Chenyi decided he should first restock the supplies in his woven bag.
His last trip to the island had taught him what supplies he was lacking. However, it was too late to go shopping now; he’d have to wait until morning. ’But I still have five special rewards to activate,’ he thought. ’I should probably use this time to claim them.’
And so, after the exhausted Bai Menghan fell asleep, Fang Chenyi quietly slipped out of bed, got dressed, and walked out of the villa complex.
After leaving the villa, he got on an electric scooter and headed toward the garbage transfer station.
When he reached the entrance, he looked at the bare lamppost and hesitated. ’Damn it, I’ve already had two scooters stolen from this spot. If I leave this one here, it’ll probably disappear too.’
But if he were to store it in the woven bag’s space and prying eyes saw him, that would be disastrous.
After weighing his options, Fang Chenyi simply muscled up, lifted the electric scooter, and set it down inside the garbage disposal center on the other side of the fence. Only then did he vault over the fence himself.
"This should be fine now."
After dusting off his hands, he headed further in.
Faint light from the streetlights filtered in through a row of ventilation windows more than ten meters up, keeping the place from being pitch-black.
He could vaguely make out the shape of the garbage heap in front of him.
He looked at the trash heap. It was different from the pile where he’d found the wedding supplies. It was obvious that the old junk had been cleared out, and this was a fresh load.
The pile of junk before him was massive, but Fang Chenyi was in a predicament. ’I’ve got five consecutive special rewards lined up. I can’t just pick up any random thing off the ground!’
’What I need to do now is pick out five potentially valuable items first. That’s the only way to maximize my gains!’
He got right to it. Gripping his trash grabber, Fang Chenyi began to rummage through the junk pile. Soon, he had pulled out a variety of items and lined them up on the ground.
A quick look at the items showed a wide variety: promotional flyers, toy airplanes and cars, and even a broken Lego aircraft carrier and rocket.
As his gaze swept over them, Fang Chenyi found it difficult to make a decision. He had no idea which one to pick.
He looked from the aircraft carrier to the flyers, but then his eyes landed on a small, round disk that was tangled up with the carrier.
He used the grabber to pick it up and take a closer look. Fang Chenyi was momentarily speechless. It was a small Compass.
It was a simple, ancient-looking Compass that resembled bronze, just like the kind ancient Daoist priests often used.
However, this one clearly wasn’t bronze. Through a crack in one spot, Fang Chenyi could see that it was actually made of stone.
He reached out and took it from the grabber. It felt heavy in his hand, confirming his suspicion—it was definitely made of stone.
Shaking his head in resignation, he prepared to toss it back into the pile. But just as he raised his hand, he stopped. A curious thought suddenly struck him.
’I wonder what kind of special reward this thing would trigger. A real Compass? Or maybe a Feng Shui Skill?’
Just as Fang Chenyi had realized earlier, even when he knew his next pickup would yield a special reward, there was no way to predict what that reward would be.
Considering he still had five chances, sacrificing one wasn’t a big deal. And so, his curiosity won out, and he tossed the broken stone Compass into his woven bag.
[Host has picked up one broken stone Compass, triggering a special system reward. Reward: one unknown Rune Stone. The reward has been placed in the woven bag. Please retrieve it at your convenience.]
As the notification sounded, Fang Chenyi froze. ’An unknown Rune Stone? What kind of reward is that?’
Snapping out of his daze, Fang Chenyi quickly bent over and began to feel around inside the woven bag.
