Chapter 895. Escaping a Predator
Amon continued to retreat while Yuka chased him. He released battle puppets and altered beasts from his black space ring to block her.
Yuka transformed into light and zoomed past these minions. Multiple tornadoes followed her. Glowing stardust accompanied these tornadoes. All the battle puppets and altered beasts hit by the tornadoes were shredded. Their shredded pieces also exploded upon coming into contact with the glowing stardust.
"Throw as many as you like. This level of puppets and beasts won’t even slow me," Yuka taunted. "I know you have used up all your most powerful minions on that multi-headed dragon earlier. Why do you think I choose now to attack you?"
"Tch! I should have hunted you down to prevent this kind of scenario from happening," Amon uttered.
"But you can’t. That’s your problem. You are too ambitious. You have too many goals in sight that you can’t deal with all the issues. Plus, you will never be successful if you try to hunt me. I always know your position. I can simply move location when I sense that you are near."
Amon realized this point too. That’s why he never attempted to look for Yuka. The only way for him to deal with her was to commission the task to another capable person or to counterattack when Yuka came for him. Unfortunately for him, Yuka was smart enough to pick the best timing in her favor.
Yuka turned into a ray of light again. Amon used the Invisible Sky Steps to dodge. Their movements formed two zig-zag lines in the sky.
Amon performed the body-strengthening meridian points technique while dodging. There was a dash limit to his Invisible Sky Steps, so Yuka caught up with him sooner or later.
She swung her hand, and Amon blocked it with the Xian Chain. Yuka was surprised by the chain’s sturdiness. She could feel from the contact that she wouldn’t be able to break this chain even with all her power. She was correct because even Di Yu was unable to do so.
Nevertheless, it didn’t mean the chain could stop her. Her hand, which was blocked by the chain, disassembled into multiple tentacles. These tentacles elongated and reached for Amon.
Amon wasn’t surprised by this transformation. He had expected it. The Broken Justice at the end of the Xian Chain shone brightly. He swung the shining dagger and cut the tentacles that almost touched him.
Yuka stopped advancing and observed the cut tentacles on her arm. She didn’t appear to be in pain from getting cut. The cut part didn’t bleed. The tentacles were like gel. They shivered, and new tips grew from the cut parts. After the instant regeneration, they were as good as new.
"I know that broken weapon is special, but I didn’t expect it to be that sharp. It can cut me so easily," Yuka said.
"That’s because the part I cut is not your main body," Amon replied. "How about you let me test its sharpness on your main body. You want to know your limit as well, don’t you?"
Yuka chuckled. "You are funny, but I’m not amused." Both sides of her body and her lower body exploded into countless long tentacles. These tentacles formed a wide net, attempting to trap Amon inside.
Amon didn’t dare to be careless. He activated the Elder God Veil and turned into a black devil. Aside from his right hand, which held the shining Broken Justice, other parts of his body were cloaked in dark fogs. He threw the Broken Justice and swung it using the Xian Chain. The rapid and wide swing formed a sphere of light. Yuka’s tentacles that touched this sphere were cut to pieces.
"Not bad, Amon," Yuka said as her eyes shone.
"Shit!" Amon exclaimed. It was too late. He felt his body becoming stiff.
Yuka’s Petrifying Gaze was even more powerful after she evolved. It could penetrate even the dark fogs covering Amon’s eyes. While Amon was petrified, Yuka unleashed multiple wind spears.
Amon remembered these wind spears. The spears had a strong sedative effect. He couldn’t afford to get hit, or he wouldn’t be able to fight for long.
He couldn’t move his body because of the petrifying effect, but his mind could move the Elder God Veil. The eight black tentacles on his back turned into cannons and shot dark bullets. The bullets struck the incoming wind spears, eroding and weakening them. By the time they arrived, they were too weak to pierce through the Elder God Veil.
"You are persistent. I give you that." Yuka regrew her cut tentacles. They resumed their advance toward Amon.
"Hrghh...!!" Amon had always had a strong mind. The petrifying gaze couldn’t hold him for long, especially with his current power. He reassumed control over his body and swung the Broken Justice to cut the tentacles. He then retreated.
"You won’t escape!" Yuka turned into a ray of light and zoomed behind Amon, cutting his escape path. However, Amon predicted her move. The Broken Justice, with the extra reach thanks to the Xian Chain, was already swinging in her direction when she rematerialized.
She was surprised but was reactive enough to block using her arm. The Broken Justice could easily cut through her tentacles, but it was not so when they combined to form a full arm. The shining dagger only went in about one inch before it stopped. No blood resulted from this cut.
Several small pellets flew toward her when she was distracted by the cut. The pellets failed to reach her because a layer of strong wind protected her. The wind was about to blow the pellets away, but they exploded before that happened. The explosion released smoke.
"Hah! Do you think I’m afraid of poison?" Yuka laughed.
A thin ray of dark light shot out of the poison smoke. Yuka had been distracted by the smoke. The dark ray aimed at the spot just below her throat. Though she was late in sensing the attack due to the distraction, her reflexes were quick enough. She shifted to the side, and the dark ray penetrated her shoulder. It failed to pierce all the way through, but this time, blood spurted from the wound.
Amon’s assault hadn’t ended. The Broken Justice came slashing from above when his Dark Finger of Death stabbed Yuka’s shoulder. The bright light from the broken weapon caused the eyes on her butterfly wings to wince. Nevertheless, she wasn’t as distracted as before. The pain from her shoulder wound caused her to focus instead.
Her two arms came up. They burst into many tentacles. The Broken Justice cut through several tentacles, but not all. The surviving tentacles wrapped around the shining dagger and the chain that held it, locking the weapon down.
Amon tried pulling his weapon, but his strength couldn’t match hers.
Yuka touched the wound on her shoulder with one of her tentacles. "You are one crafty human. I see you know about my weak point."
"Why do you find that surprising?" Amon asked. "You have threatened me since the first day we met. It is only natural that I find all available information about you, including where your spirit core is. Even though you have evolved, I believe the location of your spirit core remains the same."
"Unfortunately, you have failed. Now, it is time to die!" Yuka’s two wings were glowing. One shone a white light, and the other a black light.
Amon remembered this move. She was going to use her light-and-darkness explosion. He had experienced this explosion before. He wouldn’t survive if he remained inside the blast zone.
The tentacles on Amon’s back elongated. The end of each tentacle took the shape of a claw. These black claws grabbed Yuka’s tentacles that held his weapon.
"Getting desperate? You want to compete in strength with me?" Yuka asked with a condescending tone.
Amon didn’t answer. Yuka was confused, both by Amon’s composure and the fact that the black claws grabbing her tentacles didn’t exert any pulling strength. She learned the answer when she heard sizzling sounds from where the black claws touched her tentacles. The black claws weren’t trying to pry her tentacles open by force. They were eroding her tentacles.
"Don’t think you can escape!" More tentacles burst out of Yuka, attempting to grab the Broken Justice and the Xian Chain.
Six large flying knives materialized. They turned into lightning bolts and struck the new tentacles. The impact produced lightning explosions that electrocuted the tentacles.
Amon also used Water Slicing Rings. Empowered by his Elder God Veil and the fused energy from his mixed energy space, the low-level arcane art was strong enough to knock the tentacles away, even when it couldn’t cut through them.
This bought enough time for Amon’s black claws to erode the tentacles. His weapon was free. He immediately pulled them back and dashed away. He could sacrifice his other weapons, but not the Broken Justice and the Xian Chain. They were too precious. He also needed them if he were to have a chance to defeat Yuka.
"You won’t escape!" Yuka exclaimed. She was like a predator chasing her prey. She refused to let Amon go. The glow on her two wings intensified.
