Chapter 752: Wine Only Nobles Can Drink
"Xiao Yang, you’ve spent too much, come sit and drink with us, let’s try this ’Luo something Ni’."
Zhou Haiping put on an official demeanor, smiling contentedly.
Though this guy says things that aren’t too pleasant, he’s practical and even bought such an expensive bottle of wine. He briefly forgave Yang Cheng’s earlier strange actions in his mind.
"Romanée-Conti."
Yang Cheng chuckled and immediately stepped forward to pour him some wine.
The dark red wine flowed into the glass, releasing a faint fragrance. Zhou Haiping lifted the glass to his nose, taking in the aroma with a look of ecstasy on his face.
"Great wine! No wonder it’s a two hundred thousand per bottle; just the smell alone is intoxicating."
Zhou Haiping was in high spirits, grinning from ear to ear.
Kong Lingwen raised an eyebrow, thinking if she had known he liked red wine so much, she would have just given him two bottles. As long as the paperwork gets done quickly, it’s no big deal.
But she vaguely felt Yang Cheng wasn’t so kind; he was still confronting Zhou Haiping earlier, why the sudden purchase of a Romanée-Conti?
Thinking of this, she spoke up, "Yang Cheng, pour me a glass, I want to toast Vice Director Zhou."
"Ms. Kong, you’re naturally alcohol intolerant, giving you this wine would be a waste, plus this is specifically for Vice Director Zhou, just a token of my appreciation."
Yang Cheng immediately refused and, as he turned around, winked at her.
At this, Kong Lingwen instantly understood, he must be plotting something bad, maybe he even spiked the drink.
"Xiao Yang, just pour a little for Ms. Kong, it’s no fun drinking alone."
Zhou Haiping laughed heartily, enjoying the flattery and finding Yang Cheng much more agreeable now.
"I was foolish a moment ago, drinking such expensive wine is indeed a waste on me. Only someone of Vice Director Zhou’s stature is worthy of it, I’ll toast you with tea instead."
Kong Lingwen raised her teacup, smiled slightly, and drank it down in one go.
This uninhibited yet charming demeanor delighted Zhou Haiping, who picked up the glass on the table and downed it.
Just as he took the first sip, he felt something was off. It smelled quite fragrant, but why did it taste so spicy and leave his tongue numb, with an indescribable strange flavor?
Puffing his cheeks, he was in a dilemma, whether to spit it out or swallow it, making quite a spectacle with his expression.
Yang Cheng took a step back, seriously explaining, "It’s said that only foreign aristocrats used to drink this kind of wine, they considered drinking it as a status symbol, and only the noble could appreciate it. Ordinary folks weren’t even qualified to smell it!"
Hearing this, Zhou Haiping forcibly swallowed the wine in his mouth, his eyebrows furrowed into a deep formation.
Yang Cheng, stifling laughter, curiously asked, "Vice Director Zhou, does this wine taste good?"
"This aristocratic wine is indeed something else, a rather unique taste!"
Zhou Haiping awkwardly smiled, wanting to say it tasted terrible but afraid Yang Cheng and Kong Lingwen would mock him as a country bumpkin, unable to handle fine fare.
"I’ve never had it either, but it’s said to have a special aroma. You drank too quickly earlier to savor its essence, let me pour you another glass so you can taste it properly."
As Yang Cheng spoke, he poured him another full glass of wine.
Sweat appeared on Zhou Haiping’s greasy forehead, feeling Yang Cheng was overly enthusiastic, preferring the previous veiled sarcasm.
He awkwardly smiled, took a sip from the glass, his whole face scrunching up.
Could this wine really be worth two hundred thousand?
He started doubting life itself, wondering if Yang Cheng was playing him, but Yang Cheng’s expression showed no guilt, only sincere smiles.
Under Yang Cheng’s persuasion and encouragement, Zhou Haiping inexplicably finished the second glass, even tasting a bit of the appealing flavor.
"This wine is really something, worthy of being two hundred thousand wine!"
His tongue was getting heavy, eyes slightly unfocused, clearly intoxicated.
Kong Lingwen was perplexed; he had previously had a few shots of hard liquor, yet hadn’t been this quickly intoxicated. How could two glasses of red wine get him so tipsy?
Meanwhile, Yang Cheng approached Xiaosun, pouring him a glass of wine as well, smiling as he said, "You just said you’ve never had such fine wine accompanying the Director before, try it today."
"Thank you, that’s really kind of you."
Xiaosun was delighted, stood up to toast Zhou Haiping, spewing a stream of flattery.
Yang Cheng had figured out that this guy was definitely Zhou Haiping’s primary lackey, always present at drinking sessions.
After the toast, Xiaosun picked up the glass and took a big sip, his expression immediately turning sour.
He didn’t expect the wine to have such a sharp taste. On instinct, he wanted to spit it out but felt it was too wasteful, reluctantly swallowing it.
Yang Cheng took the opportunity to sit beside Xiaosun, pouring him another glass, coaxing him into drinking it down.
By then, Zhou Haiping had already started acting drunk, and with Yang Cheng not in the way, he leaned close to Kong Lingwen, drunkenly saying, "Ms. Kong, I’m a bit drunk, had a great time today, let’s end this meal here."
Kong Lingwen nodded with a smile, very courteously saying, "Thank you, Vice Director Zhou, for gracing us with your presence. I’ll entrust that matter to you, and I’ll have the driver take you home now."
"The matter’s easy to handle, but..."
As the alcohol took effect, Zhou Haiping could no longer conceal his intentions, greedily gazing at Kong Lingwen’s stunning face, then downward at her ample bosom, as a surge of desire overwhelmed him.
"I’ll be blunt, you’re so beautiful, isn’t it a loss to keep sleeping with some young guy? If you ever feel lonely, come find me; I know more tricks than those pretty boys. Plus, I’ll definitely handle your company’s issues clearly and efficiently."
Hearing this, Kong Lingwen’s eyebrows furrowed in disgust; the way this lecherous man eyed her made her want to escape.
Even if it meant losing the company, she’d never sell her body to such a revolting man.
"Ms. Kong, I truly admire you. You have a great background, you’re beautiful, and your figure is top-notch. I fell for you at first sight. If I could be with you, I’d divorce my wife and devote myself to you alone."
"A successful man like me always has a few mistresses around, but for you, I’d settle with just one, as a testament to my affection for you."
Zhou Haiping squinted his small eyes, displaying what he believed was a look of sincerity, but to Kong Lingwen, it was pure sleaze.
With each line he uttered, he leaned closer to Kong Lingwen, his breath a mixture of fetid odors and alcohol, making her feel nauseated.
Kong Lingwen immediately stood up, widening the gap between them, and with a flustered expression said, "Vice Director Zhou, what are you doing? I came here today to discuss work, so please don’t entertain any improper thoughts, as I will not agree."
