Chapter 917 - 902
A night of reconnaissance was tedious, and through Xu Renjie’s personal confirmation, the Japanese students’ midnight defense was simply non-existent.
No shifts, no room checks, and even the personnel on duty were almost absent. At least that’s what Xu Renjie observed last night; Jiang Kou was not carrying out any substantial night watch actions, he was primarily asleep inside.
But it’s understandable; they indeed have the capital to be so "arrogant." After all, the school is surrounded by thousands of large corpse clusters, guarding them 24/7, so they truly have no worries about external infiltration.
Lei Tong was the first to wake up. When he found Old Xu leaning against the wall, half-asleep, he immediately realized that he had been fooled last night.
Standing up carefully, Lei Tong gently picked up the blanket from his body, intending to cover Old Xu.
Even though there were five people inside the room, the cold air still made one feel frozen.
But before Lei Tong could step forward, the alert Old Xu sensed the disturbance and immediately assumed a defensive posture.
"Com... Old Xu, it’s me?" Seeing Xu Renjie’s movement, Lei Tong was somewhat annoyed with his own carelessness.
Originally, he aimed to let his platoon leader sleep more comfortably, but unexpectedly his goodwill backfired, waking the other up.
As a member of the special forces, Lei Tong knew how difficult it is to sleep in the rear of the enemy, so...
"Ah, Lei!" After confirming the visitor’s identity, Old Xu lowered his raised arms and twisted, no doubt he was somewhat sore after sitting in the corner all night.
"Old Xu, why didn’t you call me last night?" Lei Tong asked with a hint of complaint.
Xu Renjie waved his hand and laughed, "Nothing major, I thought not to call you."
This is the tradition of Huaxia’s soldiers—veterans always take care of new recruits, but this only applies on the battlefield. As for daily training, well, they’d kill you without mercy.
Lei Tong knew the platoon leader’s personality and didn’t dwell on it, but instead solemnly asked, "How was last night? How were the guards, those little Japanese bastards?"
Old Xu’s lips curled into a smile as he shook his head, "Damn guards, sleeping like dead pigs."
"Haha! That’s really great!" Hearing this, Lei Tong clapped his hands, delighted, causing Demmi and Derek next door to wake up.
Opening his eyes, Derek looked around in confusion. The night was still dim, although the time had passed 6:30 in the morning, the winter dawn always arrived late.
Demmi snuggled in Derek’s arms like a kitten, the man’s movement made her a bit unhappy. She blinked her long lashes and wrapped her arms around Derek’s neck. After some affection, Derek made an excuse and hurried out of bed.
After dressing, Derek walked out of the compartment, came up to Xu and Lei, and whispered, "Last night..."
"Shh!" Old Xu gestured for silence, pointing towards Demmi.
Derek glanced back and understood Old Xu’s meaning.
Time ticked by, and the dim night gradually brightened.
Reluctantly, Demmi climbed out of bed, her voluptuous figure perfectly outlined.
Breakfast was non-existent, at least for Xu and his group.
Meanwhile, the Japanese students continued to play in their sleep, and according to Derek’s introduction, those brats typically slept until they woke up naturally.
But after witnessing their three-hour "battle" last night, Old Xu could understand their dead pig-like traits.
"With them like that, how do we proceed with our operation?" This was undoubtedly Old Xu’s biggest concern, because staying here even one more minute, the outrageous acts of Japanese students worried him greatly.
He urgently needed to send the intelligence out and then quickly formulate a mission to rescue everyone from this plight.
"Well... haha," Derek scratched his head awkwardly as Old Xu stared intently into the young man’s eyes, "What is it?"
"We’ll need to report to them when going out."
"What about them sleeping?"
"Leave it to me!" With that, Derek opened the door and walked out.
Fifteen minutes later, Derek returned accompanied by Jiang Kou.
However, neither of them entered the door; Derek called out to Old Xu and Lei Tong from outside.
Xu and Lei were unaware that Derek and Watanabe had initially established a rule whereby Japanese students were not allowed to enter their room.
To gain essential living resources, Watanabe could only agree to Derek’s request.
Upon opening the door, the first thing Old Xu saw outside was the redness and swelling on Derek’s cheek. Glancing at Jiang Kou’s solemn expression, he knew it was certainly because Derek disturbed his sweet dreams and made him quite uncomfortable.
"What’s up, are we ready for action then?"
Old Xu nodded, maintaining his submissive appearance as he replied, "Haha, yes, Brother Jiang Kou, I’m sorry for waking you up so early. We... we want to set off early and explore more places. I heard from Little Derek that the nearby supermarkets have almost been thoroughly ransacked. So, I’m thinking of heading a bit farther out..."
With a wave of the hand, Jiang Kou wasn’t interested in hearing Old Xu’s nonsense. He scanned the trio before him and asked, "Who among you is prepared to go with Derek?"
Slightly startled, Old Xu and Lei Tong exchanged a look, then almost in unison replied, "Both of us together."
Hearing Old Xu and Lei Tong’s response, Jiang Kou’s lips curled into a chilling smile, "Ha, both of you together? That... I’m afraid that won’t do!"
"Ah? Brother Jiang Kou, what do you mean by that...?"
Jiang Kou’s gaze fell on Xu Renjie, sizing him up before abruptly asking, "Can you go out with your injuries?"
Old Xu mistakenly thought Jiang Kou was concerned about him being unable to complete the mission due to his injuries. He immediately moved his limbs and smiled, "The injuries are not a problem, they’re just superficial, didn’t get to the bone. Going out to gather supplies is still doable."
He frowned slightly as, according to Jiang Kou’s expectations, after yesterday’s battle, Old Xu wouldn’t be crippled but at least his mobility would be affected.
But now, seeing his lively condition, he seemed completely unharmed.
Could this guy really be a "cockroach"?
Seeing Jiang Kou’s dumbfounded expression, Old Xu reminded him, "Haha, Brother Jiang Kou, it’s already late; if there’s nothing else, I’d like to act early. Otherwise, the time for traveling plus returning will be a bit tight."
"Hold on!" Jiang Kou snapped back and grabbed Old Xu’s arm, "I haven’t finished speaking yet, where are you going?"
Seeing the anger in Jiang Kou’s eyes, Old Xu quickly chuckled, "Haha, this... Brother Jiang Kou, don’t misunderstand, we’re just trying to get food for the camp early. If you have any other instructions, feel free to say so." (To be continued. If you like this work, feel free to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets on Qidian (qidian.com).
