Episode 11: The Personian War, Part Two

Darios of the mercenary captain 'Black Leopard'.

The species is a high-ranking species of the Beast race (Warbeast).

of a certain western nation, is the birth of three sons of a small baron family.

Darios has been counted as one of the 'Reconstructors' in the history of war.

Reconstructors… it is about those who have reconstructed the once advanced tactics, forgotten during the period of confusion begun by the fall of the Lemurian Empire.

Infantry, cavalry, archers. Combine the three soldiers to fight.

That seems natural, but not in this world today.

That would be well understood by the fact that Hadrianus III, Elquille's father, neglected infantry by holding too many heavily armed cavalry.

Even the Lemurian Empire, which preserves much of the ancient material, has this body.

Needless to say, barbarians.

The long history of mankind's battle, the skill of the killing that has been polished, was being lost, and the war in this world was degenerating into a very primitive thing: the push of force from the front.

The concept of a barracks has long been forgotten, even the concepts of strategy and tactics.

It is the prayer to God that determines the victory or defeat of the battle. And so much so that the generals of one country said in great seriousness that the technology of war in this world was degenerating.

Therefore, Darios, one of the few famous generals in the world who could use a combination of infantry, cavalry and crossbow, was the "Reconstructor".

"How many soldiers have gathered?

"In addition to the mercenary of the child, five thousand infantry and five thousand crossbow troops totaling ten thousand, we have already assembled thirty thousand infantry and five thousand barbarian light cavalry, and our total strength is forty-five thousand."

"Hmm...... well, that would be fine if we got together"

A man who is the ruler and substantial king of the Personian mercenary regiment.

Mercenary captain Darios nodded satisfied with the deputy's report.

At present, the financial situation of the territory of the Personian mercenary regiment was in a critical state.

Because the ground called the Personian Peninsula was too weak to sustain 10,000 mercenaries.

The Pelosonian Peninsula has industries such as olive oil, wine and marble, and is never a poor region.

But there was not enough economic foundation to keep feeding 10,000 gold-eating bugs at all times, and the ability to collect taxes was lacking in the Darios mercenary corps.

If we dismantle the mercenary regiment, there will be a revolt, which will give us a gap into other countries.

But maintaining a mercenary regiment requires heavy taxes, buying the resentment of residents and unnecessarily increasing the risk of insurgency.

Jiri poverty was about this.

So Darios decided to hit the beat.

It is an operation to squeeze wallets, gather mercenaries and invade the Lemurian Empire to plunder territory and compensation.

By the way, Darios' purse was not enough to gather enough troops to pull off major concessions to the Lemurian Empire, so he received significant financial support from two countries hostile to the Lemurian Empire (...), plus he also owed money from foreign merchants to collect funds... and still collected mercenaries by allowing looting within the Lemurian Empire territory for the shortfall.

Darios has a proven track record of defeating the Lemurian Empire twice.

Though oblique, both military funds and mercenaries were able to be collected smoothly, even if thanks to the track record of defeating twice the emperor of a superpower that once ruled the world.

"But captain. Are you seriously motivated?

"What, are you anxious?

Darios slapped his deputy on the shoulder with a laugh.

"As it turns out, the target is a fifteen-year-old young man. That's the son of Hadrianus III, too, isn't it? You're not my enemy."

Darios recounts his battle with Hadrianus III.

When the emperor of the great Lemuria was his opponent, he was weak enough to make Darios clap his mind out.

The frog child is a frog.

The son of Hadrianus III will be Hadrianus III.

And so on, Darios, who was thinking and laughing...

"Captain!! Oh my God!! The Lemurian Imperial Army is invading our national territory!!!

Darios' smile hardens...

Elquille laughed high somewhere.

"Ha!! Anyway, that black cat bastard, he said of me, 'Intercept, the frog child is a frog. Fifteen youths can afford it!!' I guess he said something like that. How does it feel to have your back written on a frog!!!

Elquille laughed high.

Are you quite happy that you deceived the prestigious General and the famous' Black Leopard 'Darios, who is the best at it?

As a matter of fact, I was anxiously encouraged by Carolina with a glass until not too long ago to find out or if there was an ambush somewhere... but that is a secret.

"You've done well, Your Majesty"

"Oh. I landed lightly."

The Lemurian Imperial Army (Heavy Cavalry (Cribanarius) 8000 and Infantry 15000, Longbowmen 5000, total 28000), led by the Elkhurs, is stationed in a small port on the territory of the Personian Mercenary Regiment.

How could I land lightly...... there are three reasons for this.

First and foremost, that the Personian mercenary regiment does not have a ship in the first place. Because we don't even have a busy transport ship, it's nearly impossible to prevent or capture the Lemurian Imperial Navy.

Second, that I didn't expect to be attacked because I was willing to. I mean Darios' total alarm.

Thirdly, because Elquille puts the Standing Army on a boat in the middle of the night, sailing out of the capital at night, and on top of that, using merchants to control information.

The cooks and servants who work in the palace of the Lemurian Empire now finally say, "Is that it? Your Majesty, where have you been?" In a level situation, Darios would be a psychic if he found out where Elquille was.

Now, the Elquilles, who decided to ambush brilliantly, but the status quo is by no means advantageous.

"I don't know how much Darios' guy is gathering, but maybe the force is bigger than ours. In order to fill this gap, we need to always take the lead. It's a must-win."

That's what Erkühr said, spreading the map.

Sleeping in the library of the Lemurian Empire, it is a very precise map of the Pelosian Peninsula.

Definitely a lot more accurate than the map Darios has.

"The current location is here. From here to the south is the largest city on the Personian Peninsula. So, Darios is based near the border with the Lemurian Empire... from here is the fortified city north"

In other words, Erkür's march is one in two.

It's either the fortress city where Darios is based or the largest city on the Pelosian Peninsula.

South or north from here.

We have to go one way or the other.

"Well, the first unlikely thing is a punch into a fortress city. Wouldn't you? Galphis."

"I agree with that. It's out of the question."

Having gained a mutual agreement, both sides confidently take the punch into the fortress city out of their options.

But there is one girl with a disgruntled face.

It's Carolina.

"How is it impossible? Kill Darios directly. Isn't that easy to understand?"

"That's easy. First of all, the fortress city is the furthest away in terms of distance. That's why the soldiers are exhausted. Besides, Darios doesn't have to move and can wait anywhere.... Now the lead is held by Darios. The effect of an ambush becomes meaningless"

More than inferior in number of soldiers, the Elkhurs need to take the lead at all times.

The option that takes the most time and gives them time is out of the question.

"But if you attack the castle for a long time, they'll pinch you from behind, won't they?

"Don't worry, I have a math to drop."

That being said, Erkühl points to the largest city a little further from here, stroking Carolina's head with one hand on her muffled face.

"We take this place by surprise. Is there anything out there? Galphis."

"Yes, there are no differences"

Galphis laughed niggly, too.

"I'm young!!!!"

Darios had his head.

Because he was completely backed by Elquille.

The Lemurian Imperial Army landed in the harbor.

Three options floated behind Darios' brain when he got the information that

Are you coming up north?

Are you coming to take the largest city in the south?

Darios expected Lemuria to pick the latter and marched right south.

Darios could afford it at this point.

Because in the largest cities there are walls of considerable height, 1000 infantry and 2000 crossbow troops among trusted child mercenaries, and 2000 infantry hired from outside. Because I was wearing a total of 5000.

It's not that easy to drop.

All you have to do is attack and pinch him from behind while Elquille brings it.

What a surprise.

Darios was chasing Elquille, thinking, among other things.

Some time later, reports of the fall of the largest city jumped into Darios.

It was information that the city fell in one day.

Cities with 5000 protection cannot be dropped so easily.

And, if so, there are two possible reasons why it was dropped.

The revolt of the city dwellers?

Or it is a mercenary betrayal.

"Sire, how long have you been preparing?

"You've been around for about three months. Darios was originally planning to attack in the near future to prepare for the war."

Elquille speaks well to Carolina.

It was just as Darios expected that Erkühl could have fallen the city in one day.

It is the rebellion of the city's inhabitants and the betrayal of mercenaries.

For three months now, Erkür has been working on the acquisition of new mercenaries hired by Darios.

The mercenaries of their children are difficult to acquire because of their loyalty to Darios there.

But newly-hired mercenaries could be acquired lightly.

More damned push caused Erkühl to provoke a revolt among the city's inhabitants.

We let them fan the inhabitants into the city in advance.

Citizens, who were originally fed up with Darios' rule, rioted with joy that Elquille had come to help.

Darios, it might have been different if the child mercenaries had cracked this down immediately...

They were completely upset by Erkür's surprise attack.

With that gap in mind, a pre-acquired mercenary opened the castle gate from which the Lemurian army broke in at once.

The city fell lightly.

"Well, the battle has been on for three months.... Now it's time to go outside. Darios will come the day after tomorrow. I'll pick you up on the top battlefield."

Darios needs to take back the city.

If so, we must defeat Erkühl in the short-term showdown.

I mean...

"I can choose the battlefield. Darios is already on my hands."

Erkühr laughed invincibly.
