Episode 28: First Terripol Siege

It was just the thirteenth day since Erkür crossed the desert that a landing force led by Stefan appeared in the sea off the city of Teripol.

It was almost at the same time that the horseback riding squad led by Jebe left the village.

The day after the Battle of Terripol, Erkühl sent his flight to Marne Island…

It took three days for that flight to reach the island of Marne, and four days for Stefan to receive the news before leaving the island of Marne for the nearby coast of the city of Teripol.

The Lemurian navy chained and stabilized the ship... and lined it up to cover the bay harbour of the city of Teripol.

Then line up the boats for landing and discharging.

The opposing kingdom of Cerda has already given up the naval battle...

All ships were sunk and the harbor was no longer available.

Seal off the bay harbor with even thicker chains.

"Your Majesty, the wolf smoke has gone up"

"Sounds like it."

Look who Alicia is pointing at...

Erkühr laughed invincibly.

Three thousand troops have already been deployed at the west gate of the city of Teripol.

"Wolf smoke has gone up, which means Stefan's guy can attack anytime,"

Erkühr smiled niggardly.

And command the soldier.

"Raise the wolf smoke and send a signal. … Starting total attack now"

3300 miles from the land side.

2000 from the sea side.

A total of 5300 Lemurian troops launched an attack on the city of Teripol, where 1,000 soldiers stood.

The attacks of the first day of the Lemurian army were mainly due to projectile weapons.

On land, equilibrium hammer throwers (trebushets) created by Lemurian Empire engineers roar and fly a variety of objects to cities.

It's simply a stone, a lump of straw stained with oil and lit, human and animal carcasses, and a pot filled with manure, etc...

Various.

Bulgaron cavalry and medium cavalry (cataphruct) units also shredded their enemy forces a little by adopting the tactic of approaching the walls and then releasing arrows and leaving immediately.

At sea, Tai Yi is released from a barista mainly attached to the ship.

Sometimes a small bottle was attached to the tip of the Tai Ya, filled with 'Holy Flame' (a weapon made from a mixture of pine fat, sulfur and vitreous stones in refined oil) and released into the harbour.

"Explorer, enemy counterattack is weak."

That night, Alicia told Elquille what she thought of the siege.

Normally, enemy arrows pour like rain in a siege battle.

From above the walls and from below the walls the former naturally fly longer.

No matter how well the composite bow of the Lemurian Empire performs, the disadvantage of high and low differences cannot be so overshadowed.

But the number of arrows pouring down from the side of the Kingdom of Cerda was not very high.

"Probably sounds like you lost your light infantry"

Light infantry is responsible for archers in the Kingdom of Cerda.

But in the battle ahead, the kingdom of Cerda reduced its strength to a fifth.

Light infantry, in particular, appears to have been heavily damaged as they were forced to deal with both the powerful Bulgaron Cavalry and the Medium Cavalry (Catafract).

"Instead, you stand out for a stone-throwing attack. Looks like the citizens are in."

Shehrazard said.

Instead of archers, Carmine, the enemy general, had mobilized able-bodied citizens and had them throw stones, household goods, etc. to counterattack the Lemurian Empire.

Even an untrained citizen can throw things.

Dropping it off the walls is not such a bad measure because it will only be powerful enough to kill people.

Most of all... no matter how high and low the difference is, there is a limit to how far an amateur can fly thrown by hand.

As a result, fewer sacrifices had been made to the citizens.

"Your Majesty the Emperor. So far, how's it going, does that mean? Starting a full-scale attack tomorrow?

Alicia asked.

Because Erkühl didn't make a very aggressive attack today.

Attacks mainly by projectile weapons and to such an extent as to sporadically attack the walls as I recall occasionally.

It should be noted that attacks by projectile weapons continue today.

Especially with regard to the equilibrium hammer thrower (Trebuschette), Elquille intended to keep it fully operational all night.

It doesn't have to hit the walls.

It's inside the walls, as long as you hit the house and the dead come out.

That alone puts psychological stress on the enemy.

"I'm going to go at this rate for a while. If the equilibrium hammer caster (Trevuchette) is good and it hits the walls, it will be profitable."

Erkühl cut down nearby trees and had them create an equilibrium hammer thrower (Trevuchette) during the period until Stefan arrived.

That number, four planes in total.

Weapons that apply this principle are very powerful…

Enough power to destroy the walls.

But the problem is that it doesn't hit the inside.

Even if it hits, at the top and center of the walls... it's about to break down the walls a little.

To collapse a castle wall, you have to collapse the bottom of the castle wall, but it rarely hits that place.

(Do you want me to call Nia back?

Secondly, Elquille came up with it.

Nia's demon eye can see the vector.

Maybe the equilibrium hammer caster (Trebuschett) can be operated successfully.

But if you think calmly, it doesn't necessarily match being able to see the vector with being able to manipulate the equilibrium hammer caster (Trebuschett) successfully.

Besides, I can't call you back now.

"Well, don't worry. In five days, it will fall."

"... how could that be?

Shehrazard asked.

Alicia's intrigued, too.

Elquille shrugged her shoulders.

"While waiting for Stefan, I dug the pit. A total of five. In five days this pit will reach beneath the walls. All we have to do is crumble the walls off the foundation."

Operation Pit Road, is a tactic of digging the ground to the bottom of a castle wall and destroying each of its foundations.

Dig underneath the walls of the castle while supporting the pit with wood, etc.

Then, when you fire on that wood in anticipation of timing, the pit that lost its support collapses.

By sinking the ground, the walls also break by their own weight.

This operation is very effective and requires minimal sacrifice.

However, advanced pit drilling techniques are required.

But the Lemurian army is a standing army... Erkühl was tapping his own infantry unit with the technique of digging a pit, making it relatively easy to adopt this pit operation.

To counter the pit operation, the enemy must dig the opposing pit and collapse the pit dug by the Lemurian army in reverse...

That's not easy.

It is impossible to destroy all five pits.

"Well, I plan on attacking with a broken castle hammer or even trying to hang a ladder on a castle wall... they're all positive. You can win for sure, it's a pit."

The victory of the Lemurian army had already been confirmed.

Then the Lemurian army continued to wage siege battles day and night, exhausting the Cerda army.

And in the meantime, keep digging the pits beneath the walls.

Having noticed the pits of the Lemurian army, the Cerda army succeeded in destroying two of the five pits by creating a confrontational pit…

By that evening three of the pits had reached directly beneath the walls.

"Now, early the next morning, we begin our total attack at the same time as the sun rises. Do you want to surrender before then?"

Shortly before sundown, Erkühl wrote a letter recommending surrender and sent it to the city of Teripol.

The contents of the writ read, "The pit has already reached directly below the walls of the castle. Resistance is no longer meaningless. Tomorrow, we will launch a total attack, so open the castle gate and surrender by then. You don't want to hurt innocent people, do you? was."

"Are you sure? Your Majesty. Tell your enemies that... even if you tell them the existence of a pit."

Alicia asked.

It seemed too big a hint for the enemy to tell him that he didn't even teach the timing of the total attack... that he was going to break down the walls in the pit.

"No problem. Think about it, you can't even dig a counter-curve now, can you?

"... so is that"

Alicia nodded.

"I'd like to avoid city warfare if I could."

"Oh, there will be more damage..."

To Shehrazard's words, Erkühl nodded with consent.

Siege battles don't mean that if you get over the walls, it's over...

The city battle after that also makes a lot of sacrifices.

The interests of the land lie with the enemy, causing great damage to their own armies.

Not only that, there are many deaths among the general public.

If too many innocent people were to die, it could affect future governance.

"Besides, the walls don't collapse, and I want to keep them."

After dropping the city of Teripol, there is no prospect that the war will soon end.

There is a good chance that the enemy will come to take back the city.

Therefore, the defense equipment of the city will depend on the battlefield at a later stage, as far as possible.

"Well... I'm glad you're surrendering."

What was certain was that the next morning, the twin eakers would be stuck in the city of Terripol.

That night, Carmine and his men were discussing whether or not to surrender.

The claims of surrender proponents have no winning chance of fighting any more.

If the walls were to collapse, they would be crushed by a force difference of five times...

The soldiers' morale is also greatly diminished by the defeat in the meeting and the fatigue caused by the defensive battles of the day.

Meanwhile, there were also large numbers of people who spoke out against surrender.

Their claim was that "the pit has reached directly beneath the walls" was a lie by the Lemurian army.

That means the walls won't collapse the next morning, and we can still fight enough after this.

The city of Teripol is the second city of the Kingdom of Cerda, and the imperative of national defence.

You can't lose this place.

But the opposition's claim that "it is an enemy lie that the pit is reaching directly beneath the walls" was denied by those who were observing the "shaking" that occurs when digging the pit during the war.

I don't know exactly where it is, but it does have multiple pits stretched...

And that hasn't been able to be destroyed yet.

Furthermore, it is quite possible that it has reached directly below the walls, they argued.

"... we have no choice but to surrender. You can't sacrifice soldiers and people."

Carmine shrugged.

But...... one of my men shook his head sideways.

"No, my lord! If there is anything like His Excellency being taken prisoner...... the royal palace will be taken over by that traitor, Joamel!

"It's..."

Carmine said so.

Certainly Joamel's power would increase if Carmine were to be captured by Lemuria and kept away from the Royal Palace.

I can't imagine my daughter Sonia being able to fight Joamel on Carmine's behalf.

"My lord... why don't we just get out of here?

said one of my men.

Carmine frowns.

"What does that mean?

"All those who are here now are dignitaries of Your Excellency's faction. It is certainly also a matter of His Excellency being captured… if others are captured, it will be a great loss for us. Besides, there are few people in the Chelda kingdom who can lead the army today."

In earlier civil wars, many of the nobles of the Beasts (Warbeasts), known as militants, came to Raus I.

As a result, many competent generals were killed or executed in battle.

In addition to that, if they were to capture Carmine, the nobles of Carmine's faction, and even his men, there would be no more generals from the Kingdom of Cerda who could command the army.

"But putting soldiers and people on the run, etc..."

and Carmine shrugged.

But inside, it's time to bang.

(... Teriportania region is the support base for that traitor, Joamel. for me where I lost it, no huge loss)

Do I need to be desperate and protect myself?

I think all the time.

(This happened in the first place because of that bio-military idiot, a young man named Iason. If you push all the blame on Iason, it can be more of an attack material on Joamel)

Carmine smiled.

(Why aren't reinforcements here in the first place? Anyway, I guess that Joamel blew in on His Majesty and said he didn't need reinforcements, etc. I mean... all bad is Joamel)

That's what you have to do.

Sure, Carmine could be blamed for defeat...

Either way, Hilderick II has no choice but to keep the army in Carmine.

Apart from Iason, the only humans capable of confronting Emperor Lemuria to some extent are Carmine, and in the first place soldiers with few troops of the Royal Cherda Army are offered from the territory of Carmine.

"I have no choice... leave a few commanders and let's just get out of the city"

That's what Carmine decided.

Thus Carmine and his party took off the city of Terripol, distracted by the dark night from the hidden passage.

The next morning.

The castle gate of the city of Teripol was opened and the Lemurian army 53000 entered the city of Teripol.

That was the eighteenth day since Elquille began to cross the desert.
