Chapter 251: Stockholm Awards Ceremony
Stockholm Airport, 25 May afternoon.
A bright silver flight landed slowly on the runway.
Shortly afterwards, a luggage boat was dragged through and out of the airport by the usual crowds.
This was his first time in the city, and the most intuitive feeling about it, apart from its neatness, was the intense artistic atmosphere.
In fact, the ark doesn't know much about art, and rational thinking makes him rarely look at these issues from an emotional point of view. But even so, he can intuitively feel the rich artistic atmosphere from the city's subway station.
Because, without exaggeration, this is a museum.
The entire 108 km metro network houses over a hundred artists specializing in the creation of works of art for these stations.
No wonder Edward Witten recommended to him before coming to Stockholm that you should never take a taxi on the subway, otherwise it would be convenient but less fun.
In accordance with the Nobel Prize specifications, the winner's collapsed accommodation was arranged at the Stockholm Grand Hotel.
At the hotel's doorstep, Academician Staffan Normark, lifetime secretary of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, gave him a big hug with his arms open with a smile on the ark.
“Welcome, Professor Ark! ”
“I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long. ”
“How?” Master Staffan smiled and continued, “Allow me to introduce you, this is...”
The next few are scholars from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
Introduced by the Staffan Academicians, the Ark shook their hands and greeted them, and then followed his footsteps to his abode.
Standing at the door, the Staffan Academician smiled and said politely.
“If you need anything, just ask the waiter at the hotel and they'll pass on your needs to us. ”
The Ark laughed and said, "You're too kind. ”
“It's not polite, it's due respect to a scholar," Academician Staffan laughed, "to be honest, I was surprised to see you. I thought Tao Zhexuan was young enough, and in less than four years, another young mathematician refreshed the record. ”
Tao Zhexuan was awarded the Crawford Prize in 12 years, when he was only in his thirties, and exactly the same year, he made groundbreaking progress on the "Weak Gothic Speculation Problem”, which indirectly led to Helfgott proving the problem.
Now it's 16 years old, and it's also Gothibach's guess.
In the middle of the underworld, as if a circle were formed.
Ark laughed and humbled: “Mathematics is an ancient and vibrant discipline that gets older and older, but those who study him get younger and younger. Maybe in the future, someone younger than me will refresh this record. ”
Staffan laughed and said, "I'm afraid that's a little difficult. ”
Instead of interrupting him more here, the Staffan academician said goodbye after informing him of something to watch out for.
The suitcase was placed next to the nightstand and the ark did not immediately go out for a stroll.
Although he was interested in the city, he had just crossed the Atlantic and half of Europe, and what he needed more was rest.
I went to the bathroom and took a bath, and the ark was lying in bed, getting ready for bed.
At this point, he suddenly realized that he had not shared the pleasure with others, so he sat out of bed, picked up his phone that was resting on the nightstand, took a photo of the night view outside the window and sent it to his circle of friends and his neck.
This time, he didn't say a word, just simply sent this picture.
Soon, however, a few replies popped up below his tweet.
[Lu Shen, are you going on a trip?
[Where is this night view? Speaking of the hanging man.
Philadelphia, I guess. It's pretty close to Princeton. After all, the house is too short for New York.
[I need to take the college exam right away, touch the thighs of Lu Shen up close, and take a breath of European breath!
[Die! I can't believe Lu Shen didn't pretend!!!
Seeing the comment under the neck, the ark couldn't help but smile.
What are you talking about?
Is that who I am?
……
The next afternoon.
The ancient Styder Gollmore Hall is filled with melodically elegant classical music with thousands of seats.
After a brief introductory remark, a short haired middle-aged woman stepped forward and announced the start of the awards ceremony.
Her name is Barbara Cannon and she is the Dean of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Although the face is mostly masked by the fishtail pattern of the age, it can be seen that when the woman was young, she must have been a scholar with both face value and knowledge.
In a solemn and warm round of applause, Academician Staffan Normack, Lifetime Secretary of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, took her place and took the stage, reading the list of the winners and the words of the award.
“… the future of mankind lies in an infinite starry sky, and one day we will arrive where all eyes can see us. Let's thank the stargazing pioneers and give them our blessings and applause! Thank you for their outstanding contribution to the study 'Black Hole by Angle Momentum and its Impact'! ”
“The recipients of the Astronomical Award are Professor Roy Kerr from Canterbury University, New Zealand, and Professor Roger Branford from Stanford University, USA! ”
The Staffan Athlete repressed the sound of Yanton's frustration and ignited the atmosphere in the room.
Two professors from New Zealand and the United States came to the podium by acclamation and took the medal solemnly from Gustav XVI.
Standing on a canoe beneath the stage, he took a deep breath and gently straightened the tie in front of his chest.
He thought he was going to be calm, but in the last few seconds, he had to try to control his breathing and heartbeat.
Unlike the Chen Province Mathematics Award awarded by the China National Mathematics Institute and the Cole Award awarded by the Federal Mathematics Institute, this honor is not only recognized by the mathematics community, but also by the natural science community as a whole.
Dean Staffan on stage, continue.
“… mathematics is God's language, and prime numbers are his passwords to remain in the world. Many propositions are not necessarily great in themselves, but precisely because of these ordinary, not simple, complex but pure things, our world and our civilization are quietly changing. ”
“Thank you for your outstanding contribution to a series of studies on prime numbers! And proof of Goldbach's speculation! ”
“The winner of the Mathematics Award is…”
“Professor Ark from Princeton University! ”
A warmer round of applause erupted underneath the stage than before.
Like undulating waves, they last forever.
In a round of applause, the ark walked smoothly onto the podium.
The Crawford Prize was the first Chinese scholar to stand here for more than a decade.
Behind him are more than two hundred scholars of different colours of different nationalities, as well as nearly a thousand invited guests of different identities from different fields, who offer their blessings and applause for his contribution to the world.
And right now, in front of him is Gustav XVI, and his queen, Mrs. Sylvia.
“Congratulations, Professor Ark! ”
With a smile like a spring breeze on his face, the grey-haired old man solemnly turned to the ark with the medal and certificate in his hand.
After taking over, the ark shook hands with the king and nodded with a smile: "Thank you! ”
The applause rang again.
It wasn't until the winner from China smiled and stood aside that Mother Staffan slowly calmed down once again.
However, for an ark, the tumbling mood in his chest did not simply calm down, as it did with the softening applause.
Feel the weight of this medal, until that elegant classical music plays, until the awards ceremony ends, until the guests of the venue begin to leave...
The mood of the Ark returned to calm.
