Scholar’s Advanced Technological System

Chapter 446 Final session

In October, the streets and alleys of Stockholm filled with festivals.

Whenever this happens, this city in the Baltic Horn attracts attention from all over the world with the list of Nobel Prizes.

While the award is a matter for the academics of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the vast majority of the citizens of Stockholm are proud of it.

More interestingly, “they” have not always been.

In the people. Nationalism. In the years that swept Europe, a number of Swedes publicly complained and even criticized that a rich Swedish man or scholar (Nobel) had not donated his heritage to the State or given Scandinavians any prize-winning priority, leaving not interests, but countless troubles.

Even Hans Fauscher, then Dean of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, complained that Nobel should donate the money directly to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, instead of letting them do whatever they wanted and refused to participate in the meeting to review the details of the study.

Fortunately, thanks to the tireless efforts of Nobel's most trusted assistant, Ronald Solman, the then King of Sweden announced the entry into force of his will, ending the controversy around 31 million kroner.

The vast majority of people have proven to be short-sighted at the height of history. In an age when there was no Internet, few people had the opportunity to see the world outside the Baltic Sea.

But looking back now, even if you look around the world, it's hard to find a better investment than the 31 million kroons.

No city has ever been awarded such a prize for an award. Nor has a Swede, even the King or Prime Minister of Sweden, ever left such a vast and untold legacy to his country or nation.

Of course, there must be some trouble that comes with it.

Especially for the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, which watched the will for more than a century.

As we approach October 4th, the atmosphere in this ivory tower is becoming more tense than it is in Stockholm, which is becoming more and more lively.

The Nobel Prize list should have been ready three days ago.

This time, however, there was no uniformity among the members of the Chemistry Award jury.

Although there have been several times in history when the Nobel Committee's views could not be harmonized and the delay in publication until mid-October has occurred, there is no reason why it should occur in the selection of the Nobel Prize.

At the urging of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the judges of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry met again.

The list of members of the Chemical Awards jury showed no change over the previous two years, except for Ms. Snogerup Linse, who had retired from the committee chair to the second tier, and 15 years of promotion of member Claes Gustafasson to the committee chairman.

As for the other three academics, Peter Brzezinski, professor of biochemistry at Stockholm University, Olof Ramstrom, professor of organic chemistry at the Royal Swedish Polytechnic University, and Johan Aqvist, bull in molecular biology and computational chemistry.

At the meeting, more than half a hundred years old, Ms. Lindsor looked around sharply at several of her colleagues and spoke in a powerful tone.

“We're all that's left, and the Royal Academy of Sciences wants us to make a decision as soon as possible, at least by the 4th. ”

In fact, they should have made a decision a month ago.

The Chairman, Professor Kras, nodded.

“As Dean Lindsay said, we must make a decision, and this will be the last meeting, and I hope that if you have any views, you will not remain in your hearts. ”

Three other members nodded at each other.

This will be their last discussion of the issue.

It will also be the last review meeting of the year…

……

Objectively, the Nobel Prize for Chemistry jury was fascinating, and 17 years of frozen telescopes was a good idea, but 16 years of molecular machines was a completely novel concept, and although the results were impressive enough, it was not known how long before it was practical.

For example, the most inconceivable lithium battery, when the annual forecasting prize was awarded, everyone would send the name of the lithium-electric bull Goodnaff - the legendary “Mr. Good Enough” - but after so long, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences seemed to forget his name.

In addition to theoretical models of electrochemical interface structures, Professor Franz-Ulrich Harter of the Maple Institute of Biochemistry, and Arthur Hollich, Professor of Genetics at Yale University, for their research on intracellular protein folding and its effects, are also awards worth considering.

Prior to that, the two bulls had been awarded the Rusk Prize as the target of the Novo Prize wind. Almost 50 percent of the recipients of this award eventually won the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Chemistry.

This is in addition to recent developments in photogenetics, motor proteins and so on.

Chemists have indeed proved easier to achieve beautiful results in the field of biology.

At first glance, the creature, the pit, seems quite attractive.

Assuming, of course, that the Nobel Prize is targeted…

After an initial exchange of views, the meeting began discussions on the final nominations.

No surprise, the controversial focus, is still on the "theoretical model of electrochemical interface structure”.

And the atmosphere of controversy is getting more and more intense...

OLOF: “In any case, it's time to consider the real chemistry, and I'm sure Mr. Nobel won't be happy in heaven if he knows that we turned his favorite chemistry prize into a Biology Prize. ”

Peter emphasised violently: "But he's only 24! Even younger than Lawrence Prague! Can't we just wait till his 25th birthday? ”

Olof asks, “But other than him, is there any better outcome in the field of theoretical chemistry? ”

Peter frowned for a moment and said in a hesitant tone: "A study of molecular dynamics? Professor Robert Carl of Princeton has also done an excellent job in this area. ”

Olof shook his head: “I admit he did a great job, but he was far from brilliant. ”

Peter complained, "Then give the intracellular protein fold! Why do we have to consider theoretical chemistry? ”

Ms. Lindsay nodded: “I agree with Peter. ”

Fifteen years ago, at her initiative, the Nobel Prize was awarded to DNA repair.

Now, as at that time, she believed that the award should be awarded to biochemistry.

Olof asks, "If we're not stuck in the direction of research, why should we be stuck in the age of the winners? Nobel didn't say in his will that he had to give his inheritance to an old man in his fifties. ”

John, who never spoke, suddenly interjected: “I think Academician Olof has a point, and the electrochemical interface structure is not only an achievement in electrochemistry and theoretical chemistry, but also a pioneering contribution to research in computational chemistry. ”

He was studying the direction of computational chemistry, and no one here knew better than him how good that theoretical model really was.

However, it is here that the biggest disagreement in the Nobel Prize was reached.

As science evolves, the line between discipline and discipline becomes blurred, but the distance between direction and direction becomes more and more distant. The results of research in different directions want scholars outside the field to understand that there are difficulties, let alone horizontal comparisons.

There seems to be a "mixed war” on the table.

Watching Olof and Peter, who had not spoken much, Commissioner Kras silenced for a moment, clapping his hands and interrupting the quarrel on the table.

“Well, gentlemen... and ladies, there's no point in continuing to argue, let's use the best people. Lord, fairest, and most traditional way to make the final decision. ”

Several people exchanged sights.

Although there was no unification, there was no opinion on what Dean Kras said.

When there was no consensus, there was no better way to solve the problem than by voting.

In the absence of objection from several other members, Dean Kras glanced at the adjacent assistant.

Reading what he saw, the assistant came up and put an A4 on everyone's desk.

Picking up the pen, writing a word on the paper, Ms. Lindsay's eyebrows picked out and looked at Kras: "Are you ready? ”

“I had a hunch it would end up like this,” Mother Kras laughed, folding her own paper and gently placing it in the middle of the table, "we rarely agreed anyway, did we? ”
