Scholar’s Advanced Technological System

Chapter 612: Did you write that paper?

Peer review is an unsatisfactory task.

Firstly, the job is unpaid, or the reviewer's remuneration is usually paid in a way that is not monetary, such as a journal thank you, a position in the editorial department, free access to a journal, discounts on page fees, etc.

Secondly, with limited knowledge of a task, it is quite difficult in itself to go into this area to judge the correctness of a study.

If not for some important proposition, but world-class problems like the existence of the Young Mills equation, neither difficulty nor importance can be slightly so-so, even each line of the paper takes a lot of valuable time for reviewers to work through.

In addition to the “academic credentials” that many people take on in order to mix the names of a judge in a prestigious journal, there is more simply a sense of social responsibility as a scholar and a sense of purpose as a research gatekeeper.

For a well-known scholar, Professor Fefferman's motivation for accepting this invitation to review the text presumably belongs to the latter. But when he got the paper, he threw all this irrelevant stuff aside.

Starting with the first line of formula, the process of calculating the cloud running water was like a magical magic, holding his eyes firmly in place.

Especially the dissertation's understanding of the differential geometry idea of the differential equation, and the application of the L-shape, is so ingenious that it makes him almost incredible.

He could not believe that a young theory that was only two years old from birth to the present could develop to such a maturity in just two years.

“… is incredible. ”

It took about fifteen minutes to turn over the first page of the text, and Professor Feverman couldn't help but feel sorry for himself.

He was somewhat sorry to say that he had had to go on vacation to make soup.

At this moment, however, there is no regret in his heart.

Time passed quietly in the office and the sky outside the window gradually dimmed.

Sitting at another desk, Wei Wen finally finished the final solution and took a long breath, feeling comfortable stretching a lazy waist.

Just as he was about to get up and have dinner downstairs in the cafeteria, he noticed Professor Feverman sitting at his desk not far away, still holding his afternoon motion, staring at the paper in his hand, the pen in his hand from time to time writing something on the draft paper.

After hesitating for a moment, Wei Wen asked, still unable to resist his curiosity.

“Professor Lu... did you prove it? ”

Hearing the inquiry, the pen pinched in Professor Feverman's hand finally stopped.

Placing the paper on the table, he picked up the already chilled coffee and sipped it gently. After a while, he asked thoughtfully.

“I cannot make a hasty decision on such an important matter on my own opinion...”

After reading the paper on the table again, Professor Feverman paused and continued.

“But if it's just my personal point of view, then he probably did. ”

……

After completing the paper "Proof of the Existence of the Solution to the Young Mills Equation”, the Ark collated the contents written on the draft paper onto a computer, briefly edited them and sent them to the mailbox of the editorial office of the Yearbook of Mathematics.

Almost no suspense, the paper quickly passed the technical editorial review and entered the peer review session.

The ark did not know who the judges were until the paper was published.

But it doesn't matter at all.

He has checked the proof steps from beginning to end before sorting them out to the computer. He has more than 90% certainty that his proof is correct. Regardless of what the reviewer thinks, the problem can be considered solved for himself.

After confirming that the paper entered the peer review phase, the Ark did not take care of it anymore and started the next phase of research.

In fact, proving the existence of the solution is only the first step towards the Young Mills Equation, the Holy Grail of Modern Physics, far from touching the most central part of the problem. At the very least, he had to find a way to understand this complex equation before studying the question of quality gaps.

From a mathematical point of view, it is undoubtedly much more difficult to find a solution than to prove that it exists. At least it's not necessarily enough to chew on the original NS equation.

In short, the Ark was not in a hurry to start the next round of shutdown immediately until it found a way to solve the problem. He has been searching Arxiv for other people's research in this field for days to see if he can get some inspiration from other people's research work.

Unfortunately, however, the results were not ideal.

Though the place of the Jan Mills equation in the modern normative field is important enough, few people have studied the communication of this nonlinear differential equation as their own research direction. While there have also been some interesting results, they have often not reached the core areas.

And that means that this part of the job, he can rely on himself...

On the last Wednesday of April, after a course in computational materials, an ark with a textbook clamped in its arm walked out of the classroom.

However, just as he pondered the issue of the Jan Mills equation, walking towards the stairwell, a middle-aged professor shouted his name and ran up from behind.

“Please wait, Professor Lu. ”

Standing in the hallway outside the staircase classroom, the ark turned to look at the man who was calling himself, casting a questionable gaze at him.

“You are?”

After taking two breaths, the middle-aged professor laughed and said: “I'm Zhang Zhongqing, from the hotel... We met in physics class last time. ”

“Oh,” he said, "I still have an impression of the name. Ark immediately remembered who he was, so he said to Yan Yue," Professor Zhang, is there something wrong? ”

When I saw Ark, I remembered myself. Zhang Zhongqing was embarrassed to laugh and said, "Well, didn't you teach our students about strong interaction last time? A lot of students reacted, saying it was a shame they didn't hear about your class. Quantum mechanics is another difficulty in undergraduate education. If you want to learn well, you need to do some mathematical work. After understanding the situation, let me ask you, do you have time? If so, we'd like to ask you to give a lecture on quantum mechanics. ”

“That's it, no problem," the ark laughed and said, “So this Saturday? ”

Zhang Zhongqing laughed when he saw that the Ark had agreed to come down. "No problem! The Dean said it would still depend on what you have free time, and we can do it any time we want. So that's settled. Let me thank Professor Lu for the students at the hotel. ”

Ark: “Don't be so polite, I still enjoy lecturing students. ”

While classes given to undergraduates do not directly help him solve what his problems are, reflecting on the underlying issues gives him the inspiration he cannot create when he is closed.

Zhang Zhongqing laughed: “You're welcome. After all, your research work is so busy, you have to take time to teach undergraduate students. We're embarrassed to bother you--”

“The Ark! ”

Halfway through the hallway, a bright voice came from across the hallway.

Upon hearing the sound, the two men stopped talking at the same time, looking in the direction of the sound coming from them, only to see the Master Lu in his grey coat, walking this way like an enclave.

Looking surprised at the Master Lu coming to himself, the ark was about to say hello, but before he could speak, he heard the old man in front of him with excitement.

“Did you write that paper? ”

When I heard that, I stunned subconsciously under the ark.

“… which paper? ”

Not even a breath, Lu Yancheng said excitedly: "The Young Mills equation proves its existence! ”

Zhang Zhongqing almost didn't get choked by his own spit.

Jan Mills Equation?!

Grass!
