As early as the 1990s, the United States had attempted to build a miniature artificial ecosystem in the desert north of Tucson, Arizona, designed to conduct ecological and environmental research in confined conditions to help humans understand how the Earth operated and to study conditions that simulated the Earth's ecological environment.

Against the backdrop of the times, however, the idea was quite groundbreaking, and some of the technologies that emerged from it resurfaced in many other areas.

In terms of systematically arranged tasks, there is a 90-plus chance that the third phase of the task chain will be the establishment of a permanent or semi-permanent colony on the Moon, or a scientific observation station. Compared to Biosphere II in the United States, the Spark project had a clearer objective, which was to set the stage for space colonization activities.

Combined with a range of climatic, environmental and other factors, the site of the "spark” family biospherea was set in the Gulbantungut desert in the centre of the Jungle basin, completely isolated from the outside world through a hemispherical architectural structure.

Of course, given the realities, the means of achieving this were not overly confined to providing a comfortable living environment for the "colonizers" through the establishment of a complete ecosystem, as was the case with the Arizona Biosphere II, instead allowing "limited mineral, freshwater and biological resource inputs” to be carried out with the experimental goal of minimizing resource inputs.
