Scholar’s Advanced Technological System

Chapter 732: Focused NASA

At a time when China was cheering for the heroes' triumph, the news of Xiangrui's return had spread to every corner of the world through reports in the overseas edition of the Central Media, as well as public statements by various agencies such as NASA, ESA and the Russian Space Agency.

Almost everyone, after hearing the news, reacted without exception to surprise.

Until then, the North American media had been covering interviews with relevant experts from NASA, arguing that Xiangrui, despite having a 25-ton land-month transfer orbital capacity, could eventually face the same failed outcome as the Soviets due to its rushed plan to climb the moon.

Yet reality is like slapping them in the face, breaking their fantasies as well.

Xiangrui not only successfully returned to the Jinling Space Launch Center, but also safely returned three astronauts with a total weight of more than one kilogram of lunar soil.

Even if they are reluctant to admit it, they have to face a terrible reality.

China, which achieved bend overtaking in space through electric propulsion systems, is catching up on their footsteps at an incredible rate.

Today it's a lunar cabin and a flag, so what's tomorrow? And the day after tomorrow?

There is no gap without comparison, and although NASA research in outer space has not progressed in half a century, the pace of development has undoubtedly been much slower. Now that China has set foot on the Moon, NASA's Moon Space Station program will not be launched until 2022, and Ares has been quiet since its announcement until now, with no real action.

All Americans who are concerned about this matter can't help but have their bellies full of doubt and even anger.

What the hell is their NASA doing?

In this environment of public opinion, the North American media, the wind began to shift.

From being cynical about China's space technology to being “angry” about NASA. Especially at the head of The New York Times, where NASA experts were used in several interviews, but they did get punched in the face so much that this time, instead of inviting NASA experts, they directly pointed the gun at NASA and put a line of gunpowdery headlines on the latest edition of the newspaper --

"What are our people doing when China climbs the moon?

Unsurprisingly, just as The New York Times began to attack NASA with love and hatred, the Los Angeles Times and the Washington Post, from different angles, also wreaked havoc on NASA's inaction, questioning where it spends several or dozen times as much money each year as China.

Among many media outlets, CNN's most poignant current political channel even called for the establishment of a dedicated investigation team to verify NASA's budget list over the years, claiming that there is likely to be an alarming dark screen.

For a while, NASA was also baffled by emotional excitement.

In fact, if a pertinent assessment were made, the results achieved by the United States over the years in the field of space were not insignificant, its exploratory boundaries had even reached Pluto, and two traveller detectors had stepped outside the solar system.

All of this, however, sounds far less shocking than on the moon.

After all, the probe flies further away, and it is also a probe, far less than a human footstep to a field outside the Earth, and more stimulating to people's senses.

In the face of a crowd of excited people, it's obviously not just NASA, but politics, not just technology, when one thing is enough to affect national cohesion, enough to affect the votes in the pockets of voters. Cure the problem.

The authorities promised to keep America great.

These promises, however, are things that need to be fulfilled, not something that can be fooled.

Now the media is still targeting NASA, but in general, this fire will probably burn to the White House in no time...

……

White House.

In a conference room.

The same table as the last one, with the exception of a few raw faces, sits with the same crowd as the last one.

When the current President walked in, everyone stood up to show respect.

“Ladies and gentlemen, have a seat. ”

Walking down to the lead, the President glanced around the table and focused on NASA Director Carson for two seconds, then retracted his gaze and went straight to the point: “I need an explanation. ”

Carson and the deputy director looked at each other and finally took a deep breath and stood up with a stiff scalp.

“We muttered China's determination in the field of space… and its technological strength. Their application to the propulsion system exceeded our expectations, and until then we had never thought that a thrust could provide the same kind of thrust as a chemical rocket with enough power and quality. The electric propulsion system has also proven feasible for climbing gravity wells. At present, we have combined PPPL laboratories, MIT and other research institutions to improve the electric propulsion system..."

Knocking on the table interrupted Carson's chatter and the President reached out and squeezed his eyebrows and said impatiently.

“How long will it take? ”

Carson smiled bitterly.

“There is no way… to anticipate that before we can solve the thrust problem, we must first solve the problem of controllable fusion miniaturization. ”

The problem of controllable fusion must be solved before the problem of controllable fusion miniaturization can be solved. Although intuition tells Carson that solving the problem of controllable fusion miniaturization may not be as difficult as imagined, at least not the controllable fusion engineering itself, it is not helpful to analyze these now.

After all, based on the outcome of the negotiations, it will be possible for the parties to enter into a technical exchange in the area of controllable fusion at least next year.

And the price is not small...

The President said in disgrace: "Since there is no way to anticipate it, please stop your farting. What I need now is a solution, not an explanation for your incompetence! ”

As soon as I heard that, Carson barely bled out.

Shet!

Didn't you have to ask for an explanation?

Of course, although he spit in his heart, he certainly couldn't have just said that.

After a moment of silence, he coughed softly and continued.

“Of course, we have come up with a response strategy… and we have already spoken with our Vice-President before the start of the meeting. ”

The president threw his gaze at the vice president, only to see the skinny old man sitting at the table nod his head and whisper in a whimsical manner.

“Before the start of the meeting, I spoke with Mr. Carson for a while, and his proposal was quite good, albeit somewhat risky. ”

Although in American politics, the vice president is a mascot, if not a politician. The power to govern may not be as good as that of the governor of New Jersey, but it also has a role to play at certain times.

For example, when the NSC is reorganized and handsome by the Vice President himself.

In many cases, the President is not in a position to take direct care of matters in the field of space, in most cases coordinated by the Executive Office of the President and by the Vice-President himself.

“Adventure?” The president frowned and looked at Carson and asked, "What adventure? ”

Carson took a deep breath and sighed, “My advice is to start the first phase of Ares immediately and send our life support unit to Mars! ”

The president frowned: "Is this a plan? And if I remember correctly, the life support unit testing is not over now. ”

“That's right, but time doesn't allow us to wait any longer, as you said, if it's not a big problem, we should believe our technicians have done their best,” took a deep breath, Carson continued, "If we skip some trouble, we'll be six months sooner... no, just two months! We can send it to Mars! ”

The voice had just fallen, and a voice of discussion had sounded at the table.

Carson is also sweating in front of his forehead.

Because he knew his proposal was quite risky.

Or it's not just an adventure, it's a gamble, with astronauts' lives at stake.

After the Columbia tragedy, very few have dared to do so!

Indeed, a serious middle-aged man stood up and stared sharply at Carson and said.

“Commissioner Carson, may I speculate, are you referring to those troublesome formalities that are 'necessary testing sessions’? ”

Faced with the troubles of this adviser to the Executive Office of the President, Carson explains with a stiff scalp: "The testing session is not necessary… In fact, we have technically ensured that the life-support unit is able to run steadily for at least two years with sufficient power. ”

Did the man continue to say, "What do you guarantee? ”

Carson plug, when he didn't know how to answer, the president suddenly spoke.

“He's right. ”

“Sometimes we should be more flexible, especially in the face of an accommodating adversary, for which the National Space Commission was set up? ”

Hearing the President speak of himself, the Vice-President smiled and extended his hand to take care of the tie in front of him.

His presence is usually low, and only on such occasions can he demonstrate his presence to others.

The President's words provoked a number of whispering voices, and the man who had previously been in distress to Director Carson hesitated, but persisted.

“Mr. President, I must remind you that this is not in order. ”

“Not necessarily, testing doesn't necessarily have to be in the Arizona desert, or in the Mars desert," Carson said immediately, "and we can send the life support unit up first, and then remotely activate it to see if it works. If possible, we'll send the astronauts up again. ”

Though he deeply disagrees with this adventurous approach, he has lost sight of it by now.

As he had previously said to his secretary, standing in the satellite control room.

NASA needs a victory.

America needs a victory!

If…

Both sides of the road are traceable for resignation.

In that way, he had no other choice.

“Just like he said, send the life support unit to Mars for testing," see what the annoying guy is going to say, the president knocked on the conference table with a pen, “there is no time to waste, after the Chinese started this competition, every minute is precious to us! ”

The man who had risen earlier sat back with his eyes on him, and the President then turned a profound eye to Director Carson.

“Mr. Carson, I hope to open the champagne with you in two months' time and celebrate our success at the White House banquet. Please don't let me down, or no one will pity you! ”

That meant a long look, and a few bits of cold sweat seeped into Carson's brain.

But even so, he still had his scalp dotted and swore his right hand to his chest.

“I promise like you. ”

“God is on our side! ”
