Chapter 999: Steel Is Our Footprint
Early July.
A military base in the eastern theatre.
A military vehicle travelled through the camp in preparation for the forthcoming exercise.
At this moment, situated in the middle of the camp, there is a silver-white, weird-looking aircraft parked in the middle.
Two short, two-long wing designs, and that incredible cylindrical engine in size and proportion, don't really look like they can fly, but the zero failure rate that's been maintained so far is enough to allay everyone's concerns about whether or not this guy can work.
Xia Guang.
This is its model and the unified name after its release.
After delivering the eastern theatre, the aerospace forces attached to the theatre gave it a more hegemonic name and wrote it on the aircraft with special paint.
That is, Thunderbird.
It can soar over the top of the sky and bring down thunderbolts a thousand miles away.
Just like the name of the shuttle, it serves as a transport vehicle to and from near-Earth orbit, as well as a carrier for airspace and ground-to-ground attacks by outer space ballistic missiles.
Jumping off a military jeep, wearing a special combat costume, Li Gao Liang, with a special paratrooper rifle on his chest, looked at the silver skyplane in the centre of the camp and struck his tongue with a shock.
I don't know if it's because he's been in the hospital too long, or if he's advanced more rapidly than he thought, he doesn't know when the troops are going to be using this bullshit.
A month has elapsed between discharge and integration into the Sky Force.
For him, the past month had simply been more fulfilling than the previous two years.
Never seen equipment, never heard of tactics, even the first time he heard of a pattern of combat.
According to the instructors who trained them, they are now arguably one of the highest tech, most advanced forces in the world and none.
As airborne marines, which rely exclusively on air vehicles, they are considerably higher in scope and speed of deployment than traditional marines and traditional army paratroopers.
Tactically, they are required to be able to use advanced equipment to achieve a dozen battles and survival capabilities.
In terms of strategic positioning, their role is to be able to rapidly cross the front lines in times of war, surgically strike important targets behind the enemy and, in times of peace, support VIPs overseas, as well as vital strategic facilities, across the borders of other countries.
The tactics they learned during their training were said to have been studied by several professors at the rank of Major General at the University of National Defence, before they had merely stayed in the thesis and in the simulation, even for the first time in the exercise.
Just as Li Gaoling silently recited the outline of the exercise in his heart, an officer dressed in a military green camouflage walked up to all of them.
“Stand up! ”
“At ease! ”
Looking at the uniformed soldiers, the officer nodded and continued with a bright and serious voice.
“The exercise will begin in 10 minutes. ”
“Before you get here, I'm sure you've been over it a million times, and I'm done talking nonsense. ”
“Here, I just want to say two words. Faster, time is life! Tough move, every drill, fight me as a war! ”
“Now, tell me loudly what the code name of the action is! ”
With almost all his strength, Li Gaoliang, standing in the queue, yelled back.
“Mission! ”
as if in response to their momentum.
The officer standing in front of the queue roared in an unbeatable manner.
“Let's go! ”
With that sound, the soldiers in the camp moved.
Twenty people, divided into five groups, boarded the Thunderbird in an orderly manner in four units. The bright armed man, through the smell of slaughter, and the sci-fi “thunderbird," have a sense of complementarity.
Seated on a fixed seat in the cabin, Li Gaoling connected the cabin life support system to the battle suit and then quietly counted down in his heart, waiting for the moment to come.
Soon, a slight tremor came from the soles of his feet, climbing all over his body along the titanium alloy skeleton.
Vehicles in the vicinity of the Sky Shuttle have been evacuated and, under the guidance of the Ground Command Centre, the lightning bird slowly boarded the take-off track, opening the engine that was spraying the plume of plasma.
The pale blue arc flashed, and as the hot plasma erupted from the engine, the plane gradually disengaged from the ground, pulled its head up and flew towards the infinite depths as if something had pulled it forward.
Lee Gao Liang, sitting on a fixed seat in the cabin, took a deep breath as he stared at the clouds moving away from the window and the deepening darkness.
They will arrive in near-Earth orbit in half an hour.
And there, complete one of the highest skydives in human history… if their equipment can be called an umbrella.
At this time, a small voice communication from the squad was heard on the communication channel.
“Mom, I've never flown this high before. ”
“The altitude now reaches 20KM… we have crossed the upper limit of ordinary aircraft. ”
“I've jumped so many umbrellas, it's the first time I've flown so high. ”
“What if the umbrella doesn't open? ”
“Shut up! ”
For the vast majority of people sitting in the cabin, they are flying at such a high altitude for the first time that it is impossible to say anything less nervous.
So Li Gao Liang didn't stop his team from turning in.
Often, chatter is also a way of releasing stress, and although he prefers to adjust to himself when he is a closed-sighted god, this way is not for everyone.
He retracted his gaze from the window and Li Gaoling closed his eyes.
To keep himself at his best for a while, he intends to keep his eyes closed for a while.
At this point, however, one of his team members spoke to him.
“Captain, do we have a space station in the sky? ”
Li Gao Liang pondered the issue for a while.
Although the officer had told them before the exercise that a change of “plane” was needed in the sky to complete the exercise of the skydiving subject, he did not tell them where the transfer was.
The Lunar Palace, which is now an international scientific institution led by the Chinese State, is clearly inappropriate for military purposes.
As for the others…
Li Gaoliang moved slightly in his heart, and the answer seemed to have been called out.
“There is no space station. ”
“But we have the Magpie Bridge. ”
……
Li Gaoling didn't realize that he was just a random guess. He was right.
Looking out on the Thunderbird, you can see the pitch-black spacecraft just a stone's throw away, like a canoe with a clear angle, floating in the midst of an endless cold night.
Because of the distortion in space, Lee Gaoling didn't really catch a glimpse of the beacon bridge that he could only see on TV and on the Internet on a weekday until the two spacecraft were in close enough proximity.
Of course, there is still a lot of difference between what floats in front of him at this moment, and the bridge of magpies that travels to and from the earth and the moon all day.
As with the Thunderbird, the so-called "Magpie Bridge” corresponds only to its model.
And now, it's called The Great Wall.
As the first and only vessel of the Chinese national space force to date, it is a carrier ship sailing in outer space. The significance of the Great Wall, like its name, defends the highest frontier of China.
Usually, the Great Wall stands by outside of the synchronous cruise tracks, leaving only four people on duty. And, at the necessary moment, it can act as the air command of the Sky Force and even as an air fortress, suppressing all flight units in low orbit.
After five minutes of re-orbiting, the two spacecraft, almost together, finally completed their final docking.
His heart was relieved, but Li Gaoling was not at all relaxed.
Until now, all exercises have been conducted by spacecraft pilots in the Sky Force and by the Ground Command Centre.
And from the moment the spacecraft completes docking, the training subjects that belong to them, the Marines, are just beginning!
As the lock on the health insurance system was unlocked, Li Gaoling quickly greeted his team as the buckle fastened on the combat suit opened, quickly passing through the spacecraft connection port according to the order of the squad number, and reaching into the chamber of the Great Wall.
Inside the compartment sits five pitch-black prism-shaped airborne drop-off compartments, with a deck attached to the bottom and a series of "concave” cross-sectional tracks.
As has been contacted countless times during the training, everyone boarded the airborne compartment at the fastest speed and last checked their weapons and ammunition.
He tried to control his breathing, but Li Gaoling did everything he could calmly, closing the airborne hatch door.
Almost the same time he closed the hatch, the voice of the commander was heard on the communication channel.
“The Great Wall is in orbit! ”
“The orbital parameters have been corrected and the current altitude is 117.4KM and will reach the optimal throwing area in 2 minutes! ”
Feeling the traction coming from his back, Li Gaoling's breathing became impatient.
Although he could not see the situation outside the cabin, he could feel himself standing at the doorway of the Great Wall at this moment, even half a foot having stepped out of the edge of the highest frontier.
It's a hundred kilometers from the ground.
There was no whistling here.
Not even air.
But the invisible and crisp, you don't have to see it, you can feel it clearly.
“The landing zone is locked. Remember your mission and your mission! ”
“Steel is our footprint! ”
“Good luck, soldiers! ”
“Ship compartment detached! ”
