Scholar’s Advanced Technological System

Chapter 1001: Temporarily Avoiding the Flash

Just as the anti-terrorist exercise code-named "Mission” was under way, the land of China was in the middle of the night.

In contrast, North America, on the other side of the globe, is at noon.

As usual, most Pentagon employees would choose to have a cup of coffee at this time, sit in an air-conditioned open office, chat with colleagues in the same office about the highlights of an international event, or what game happened yesterday...

Today, however, the situation seems to be somewhat different.

From 8: 00 a.m. to the present, the Pentagon is like an eight-pound box with tight hair, everyone's footsteps are accelerating unconsciously, and every gear is running at high speeds.

And the reason for all this is not anything else, it is precisely at this moment that the “anti-terrorism exercise” - at least nominally - is taking place tens of thousands of kilometres away.

In a conference room in the core area of the Pentagon, which occupies almost the entire wall screen, a satellite aerial photograph of Okinawa Station is being shown. Although several airborne pods crossing the sky are only a distant ray of light, the wolf printed in the landing area is clearly visible...

Faced with the image on the landing screen, the whole conference room was silent and everyone held their breath.

At the end of the screening, it took about five minutes for the President to speak with a slightly dull voice.

“Play it again...”

After a glance at the Minister of Defence, he nodded and the staff responsible for the film took a deep breath and pressed the button.

The screen starts playing back.

From the airborne pod breaking through the atmosphere to the smoke blowing up close to the ground, and the mess of the earth as it scattered, it reappeared in front of everyone sitting in the conference room at this very moment.

Even if it's 18,000 miles away, even if it's across a screen, many people still smell that faint, threatening smoke...

The mouth was shut for half a day before NASA Director Carson cursed.

“Shet! Counter-terrorism exercises… What kind of terrorists use this kind of equipment to fight? ”

Of course, that sentence was spoken in a furious tone.

But somehow, when it was said, the whole room was suddenly silenced. Several high-ranking officials, including the President, looked at each other without saying a word.

Noting this unnatural silence, Director Carson first stunned, realizing that he seemed to have a problem with the phrase, and hurriedly shut his mouth.

The silence lasted a long time and was eventually broken by a cough from Chief Kevin.

“The people inside didn't get smashed into meat sauce, which is so unscientific...”

Space experts at the Pentagon pushed glasses on the nose beam, saying, "The airborne pod breaks through the low altitude area very quickly, but the end speed near the surface is actually not fast, the explosion effect is not due to the impact, it is estimated that the airborne pod proactively released a suppressed weapon as it approached the surface area... something like a cluster bomb, and that smoke...”

The statement of the space expert was interrupted, the President said.

“Did you get the detailed analysis? Regarding equipment appraisal. ”

The Pentagon's head guard and intelligence officer exchanged sights and nodded afterwards.

“Just came out...”

Without a long wait, a report was sent to the conference room shortly.

The report was received from the Secretary and the President looked in earnest.

Time goes by.

Everyone is waiting for him to finish his report.

Kevin, sitting next to him, took a sneak peek at his president, wondering if it was his illusion, always feeling that his Excellency was shaking the report's forefingers uncontrollably and gently.

In fact, he's not mistaken.

Not even the President himself knows how to express his shock at this moment.

Half an hour in the sky, less than twenty minutes.

Theoretically, this force is able to deploy anywhere in the world within an hour, either in the snow-covered Arctic or in the jungle rainforest, or in the White House and Pentagon surrounded by steel jungle, in disregard of all geographical impediments…

There's no place in the world that's really safe anymore, and maybe one day he's meeting in his office, and the ceiling's been smashed into a couple of big holes, and that's all possible.

And most importantly, these paratroopers can easily bypass the legitimate airspace of all nations!

This is a little scary...

Since the President has not spoken for a long time, it is not known when the conference room has been in a quarrel.

“It is time for a strict international convention to limit this evil weapon, and we should change the altitude of our airspace to synchronous orbit altitude! And extend international treaties banning the entry of non-conventional weapons into outer space orbit to the category of conventional weapons! Not a single bullet! ”

“Are you crazy? We recognize airspace altitude of only 35km! Who the hell is this restricting? And even if we continue to raise airspace altitude, can our missiles threaten their spacecraft? If not, what's the difference between such a convention and a piece of paper that wipes our asses apart from embarrassing us? ”

There is no strict definition of airspace altitude under international law, but only customary practice. In general, States use 110 kilometres of the lowest limit of a satellite as the recognized airspace altitude, whereas the United States has a more exceptional situation, with 35 kilometres of the highest limit of an aircraft as the airspace altitude. After all, they possess some technology that can break through the theoretical maximum flight boundary of 35 kilometres of aircraft, and naturally hope to be able to "legally” fly some special aircraft freely into the airspace of other countries for reconnaissance.

Yet, 110 kilometres away, even if an international convention were in place to impose restrictions, it would not make much sense.

Even if advanced anti-aircraft radars were able to detect aircraft operating in the area, the means of limiting the area were already quite limited.

Don't even say spacecraft.

To hit a “relatively stationary” satellite in such a high airspace requires a certain amount of luck and timing.

Stop the orbital parachute?

In that high airspace, it's easier to dream.

“… do we just watch them hang this sword of Damocles over our heads? This is a Chinese provocation against us, and I suggest a strong response! ”

“This will not help to ease regional tensions and will only exacerbate the crisis! ”

“Intensifying the crisis? That's it? I think it's always too weak to be the root of the problem! ”

There was an argument in the conference room, with eagle pie and dove pie and a middle pie sandwiched between the two sides, each with a red ear.

“Enough! ”

An angry roar interrupted the debate in the conference room.

The report in hand was photographed on the desk, the President with his chest fluctuating, looked around the silent conference room, and finally looked at his chief of staff and said.

“Kevin, I want your opinion. ”

In response to the President's question, Kevin was silent for a while.

“… their military performance is not necessarily directed at us. ”

“According to information gathered by the CIA, this military performance is most likely to be a pre-crisis rehearsal arranged for Professor Lu's visit to St. Petersburg, Russia, in August, assuming that the space and space forces are able to react at the earliest possible speed in the event of an unforeseen event. ”

The Minister of Defence frowned.

“Travel to Russia? ”

Kevin nodded.

“Well, supposedly going to St. Petersburg for the IMU convention. ”

Minister of Defence: "…”

Pentagon officials: "…"

Although he can understand why China attaches so much importance to the scholar, he uses the military to defend the travel of an academic conference...

He didn't know what to say with such a big pen.

Looking at the silent President, Kevin continued to present his point of view.

“According to reports from the CIA, this is indeed a good opportunity not only to remove a problem but also to exacerbate relations between the two countries… but my suggestion is that restraint and caution should be exercised until we have more detailed information on their orbital airborne system. ”

“You don't have to say I know that.” With impatience, the President, sitting in a different position, noticed that everyone was looking at themselves and suddenly thought of something, then added another sentence after the sentence.

“Of course, just in case, I'll call our CIA director later. ”

At least half the people in the conference room were relieved to hear that.

Kevin, as one of the relieved people, did not have a relieved look on his face, but rather a feeling of helplessness.

After the Cold War era, a super strong pattern was laid, and it was always other countries who looked at their faces, when it was actually their turn to avoid the flashes.

He grinned bitterly and took a heavy spot.

“This is best…”
