Chapter 1354: Assembling in Space!

North American Arizona Astronomical Observatory.

As a large astronomical observatory built after 2020, this scientific research facility has the most sensitive array of radio telescopes in North America, and its accuracy can even be traced to meteorite debris only half a metre in diameter, space garbage - as long as it is located within the Earth's moon system.

As the newest and most advanced astronomical observatory in North America, the Arizona Astronomical Observatory nominally belongs to the American Astronomical Society's civilian public scientific research facility, yet in fact it is funded from the Pentagon's defence budget and is under the direct jurisdiction of the Space Command.

Now that funding has been received from the military, the mission of the Astronomical Observatory cannot naturally be as simple as it was proclaimed when it was first established.

According to an internal Pentagon document, this astronomical observatory is only 30 per cent of the observation mission in search of a livable planet outside the solar system.

As for the remaining seventy per cent of the observation missions, most of them were concentrated in the Moon Transfer Orbit and in the Moon Circulation Orbit, with the aim of monitoring, apparently for the Pentagon, the space activities of the Chinese State within the Earth's Moon System.

Standing next to the coffee machine, waiting quietly for the coffee to play, Professor Reston rubbed his sour brow with some headaches and tried to relax his overheated brain.

Just about a week ago, the Chinese State launched the components of the first manned firing plan in accordance with a timetable that was made available to the international community.

It is precisely since that day that he and the observation team he led have not taken a day off and have been on duty almost 24 hours a day, without daring to relax for an hour.

After all, no one can guarantee that the Chinese State will arrange every launch plan in accordance with the schedule of launch plans that they have made available to the international community.

Such a thing is not unprecedented.

Even they themselves have done it countless times.

As head of the Astronomical Observatory and as a researcher employed in the Pentagon, he received only one task: to observe and track every detail of the ignition plan of the Chinese State and to gather as much information as possible from their launch activities.

The mission was handed to him personally by the United States Secretary of Defense at a working meeting.

And that's why, from the moment he got the assignment, he felt the unparalleled pressure on his shoulder.

Fortunately, however, this time is about to come to pass.

The most recent launch was already the third planned launch by the Chinese State. And according to the launch plan they announced, there's only one last time left if there's no surprise.

By the end of the day, their work will be suspended.

“The Xia Guang has successfully entered orbit synchronously. ”

“The third batch component is released from the cargo compartment…”

“Successful recycling, the Magpie Bridge is accelerating the change of track. ”

“Orbit switched successfully, the Magic Bridge has successfully entered the Earth Moon Transfer Orbit! ”

A succession of reports came in.

Professor Reston, standing in the control room, listened with no expression.

Although there is not a single piece of good news for them, I wonder why a faint emotion of emancipation has arisen in his heart.

It's all about to end...

Just as he thought, his assistant walked in from outside the control room.

“Professor Reston. ”

Turning to his assistant, Professor Reston asked.

“What is it? ”

“Professor Firgold has submitted a request for access to NASA, which will visit our astronomical observatory the day after tomorrow. ”

When he heard this strange name, Professor Reston frowned.

“Professor Phil Gold? ”

Reading out the confusion in his boss's eyes, the assistant immediately said.

“He is a professor at Massachusetts Polytechnic University and a retained engineer at NASA, as well as the head of the Deep Gate program. Only recently, in a media interview, he made the high-profile claim that the launch of the firing program across the Pacific was doomed to failure and that they were not prepared to land on Mars at all...”

Speaking of which, he paused for a moment, his assistant shrugged his shoulders helplessly.

“Perhaps to see the Chinese plan going so well so far, he may not be able to sit down. ”

What if I can't sit down?

When he heard that, Professor Reston had a funny feeling in his heart.

Although there are many helpless ingredients in this smile.

unemotionally pulled the corner of his mouth, and he said in a cold and unheated tone.

“If he's interested, let him come. ”

“Although I don't think it makes any sense. ”

After that, he placed the empty cup of coffee in his hand on the table next to the console, then bypassed his assistant and walked away towards the outside of the control room...

……

On the third day of the successful takeover of the third batch of human ignition program components, Professor Phil Gould arrived at the Astronomical Observatory in Arizona.

As soon as the old professor, who was already in his sixties, stepped into the astronomical observatory and saw Professor Reston walking in front of him, he couldn't even say hello and asked in the mountains.

“How's it going? ”

“What step has their launch plan taken? ”

“Is there anything unusual about it? ”

“Which one do you mean where it seems to me that the entire firing plan is full of unusual things from beginning to end?” Professor Reston shrugged his shoulders in the face of the problem thrown like a bead cannon, "I think it's time for the final stages of preparation as to where their plan went. ”

His expression looked rigidly at the slightly younger researcher in front of him, Professor Phil Gould said in a difficult tone.

“… final stage? ”

“That's right.” Professor Reston nodded, "About half an hour ago, the Chinese had successfully arrived at the Moon Palace with the last batch of components, just as they had revealed in their schedule for the ignition plan. We all thought they might circumvent our reconnaissance activities against them by temporarily adjusting launch times. But now it seems that they have not taken our spying on them at all, not only have they not made any changes to the launch plan, but even...”

Professor Phil Gould: "Even? ”

Professor Reston had a bitter and helpless smile on his face.

“… even, as if deliberately there to show us. ”

Professor Firgold fell into silence and did not know what to say.

Just over half a month ago, he was optimistic that the Chinese State would announce a firing plan at that time, with the probability of provoking NASA and provoking a new space race to achieve some unspeakable political Z purpose. And if they do start the fire on such a “rushed” schedule, this immature plan is doomed to a failed tragedy.

But now it seems that all of this is purely a hypothesis.

Don't say they didn't fail, they didn't even have the intention to hide, as if they hadn't even noticed their nominal opponents.

Looking at the silent old professor, Professor Reston was silent for a while and suddenly spoke and continued.

“Let's not just stand at the door and talk. Now that they're all here, come in and have a look. ”

“If I'm not mistaken, they're probably trying to assemble those parts into a whole colonial ship and shoot it at Mars with the astronauts. ”

In the second half of the sentence, he said it in a joking tone. Though there was no comfort to talk about, the atmosphere around him was somewhat heavy because his joke was a little relaxed.

The difficulty of assembling a spacecraft weighing hundreds of tons in the moon orbit does not require him to say anything more, which is clear to anyone who has a little knowledge of space.

Assembling three parts on the Lunar Palace into a spaceship sounds like shooting an AK47 at a target a few hundred meters away, all of the bullets drilling into the same target eye at the end of the line.

Without an independent power system and constantly adjusting its orbit based on the CCD cameras on the ship and the dynamic visual measurement system, these parts can accidentally crash into a mass and become deadly space trash.

In contrast, he preferred to believe that the ignition spacecraft designed by the Chinese State was actually a spacecraft slightly smaller than the Xia Guang and had been sent to the Lunar Palace for fuel at the time of the first launch plan.

The two subsequent launch missions were to send simple ground-based survival devices to the Moon Palace space station to be carried by other spacecraft for deployment in batches into Mars orbit.

Yet just as he thought about it, on the radar screen in the command room, three white dots floating around the Moon Palace were pulled closer together by some force.

Just walked into the control room with Professor Phil Gould and noticed that Professor Leston, who was in an unusual situation on the radar screen, frowned.

At first, he thought it was the radio telescope array that showed the problem.

Soon, however, he realized that this was not possible, and the engineer in charge of equipment maintenance maintained the radio telescope array at the Astronomical Observatory only this morning.

Professor Phil Gould, standing next to him, apparently also noticed an anomaly on the radar, muttering and whispering.

“… what the hell are they doing? ”

“I don't know…”, Professor Leston immediately turned to his assistant and asked, "Can I apply for permission to use Universe-2 optical observation satellites? ”

Universe-2 optical observation satellites are space-based observation satellites commissioned by NASA to be launched by the Space-X Group after 2022, primarily to capture planets in the solar system through high-resolution lenses.

Of course, so far, like the Arizona Astronomical Observatory, 70 per cent of the observations have been concentrated on the Moon.

Or, to be exact, seventy percent of the missions are focused on Chinese astronauts on the Moon.

“There should be no problem… I'll ask. ”

Dropping this sentence, the assistant flew out of the control room.

Without keeping his boss waiting long enough, he quickly came back from the outside.

“NASA approved our application! ”

Upon hearing this, Professor Reston immediately and without hesitation ordered, "Access to Universe-2 optical observation satellites! Focus on the Moon Palace! ”

At altitudes hundreds of kilometres away, a cylindrical satellite fine-tuned its orbit and pointing angle, locking the lens onto the Moon Palace.

Everyone in the control room was stunned by the image in front of them as soon as the camera pointed at the Moon Palace and finished focusing.

Are you fucking assembling a spaceship?!

WTF?!
