However, after a moment of contemplation, Chu Qiguang suddenly withdrew his finger and remarked, "It feels like too much of a waste to kill you like this. I'm sure you had to work hard in your cultivation for many years to reach the fifth state, so it'd be a shame for you to die here for nothing."
Zhang Jitian immediately began nodding frantically in agreement. Chu Qiguang casually knocked him unconscious, then turned his attention back to the monkey fiend, who had only just managed to struggle to his feet and draw the saber on his back.
He was clearly terrified of Chu Qiguang, but he saw no option other than to fight to the bitter end. Humans and fiends were sworn enemies in the Great Han Empire, so surrendering or begging for mercy had never even crossed his mind.

You managed to infiltrate the Demon Vanquishing Department? I understand now! You must've been planted there by Layman Evergreen!
"No wonder he summoned all of us to attack Jade Face Mountain! If even someone like you has been planted in the Demon Vanquishing Department to help us from the inside, then those bastards don't stand a chance!"
An origin story for Chu Qiguang had rapidly taken shape in the monkey fiend's mind.
"What're you talking about?" Chu Qiguang asked with a raised eyebrow. "I don't have a clue what you're saying."
"Still keeping up the act, I see. You're a true professional!" the monkey fiend praised. "No wonder you were able to infiltrate the Demon Vanquishing Department. Rest assured, I won't breathe a word of this to anyone."
Chu Qiguang stared at the monkey fiend in exasperated silence for a moment, then decided to go along with it.
"Why did you attack those people?" he asked. "Aren't you afraid of raising the alarm?"
"Some other fiends attacked them first," the monkey fiend explained. "I only came in to mop things up at the end."
Chu Qiguang continued strategically questioning the monkey fiend to extract more information out of him, and he quickly uncovered an elaborate plan to attack Jade Face Mountain.
