Chapter 294: What a Tycoon
In the end, Faye Yardley paid for her meal along with the boy’s two main courses. He packed up all the leftover food to go.
After following Faye Yardley out the door, he said, "Thank you for your generosity, miss. How about we find a quiet place so I can have our boss explain things in detail?"
Faye Yardley led the four of them directly to her shop. "Alright," she said, "it’s quiet enough here, and no one will overhear us. You can show me that pier construction blueprint you mentioned."
That’s right. If the boy with the punk hairstyle hadn’t mentioned he had a pier construction blueprint, Faye Yardley wouldn’t have bothered talking to him at all.
Their leader, Quinn Wynn, took out a blueprint and handed it to Faye Yardley. "This is for you. In exchange, you have to get Lexy into the City Lord’s Manor."
As soon as Faye Yardley took it, she received a confirmation from the system. This meant that with this blueprint, she could build a pier on Conch Isle when she returned.
Her expression didn’t change. Faye Yardley stated flatly, "I need to see his quest first. I have to confirm he isn’t going in there to steal anything from the City Lord’s Manor. Otherwise, I won’t agree to this, blueprint or not."
Player quests could be unbelievably strange. ’I can’t just bring a ticking time bomb in with me.’ If he were just visiting Lumina for fun and never coming back, it wouldn’t matter.
The problem was, she had a shop here now, complete with a small Teleportation Array. It wouldn’t be worth it if her standing with the Lumina City Lord was damaged because of other players.
Quinn Wynn was naturally a little annoyed with Faye Yardley, but she could understand the caution. After all, they had never met before. Still, being questioned like this was unpleasant.
The boy with the punk hairstyle didn’t overthink it; he just wanted to complete his quest.
Fortunately, his quest was simply to find the Lady of the City’s assistant and hand over a letter.
Only then did Faye Yardley accept the blueprint, feeling relieved. She nodded, agreeing to take the boy inside.
「Evening arrived in a flash.」
Faye Yardley first took Lexy to a regular shop run by Lumina residents. For 10 copper coins, she had his wild, punk hairstyle changed into what she considered a normal buzz cut. Then, she spent another 100 copper on a set of regular clothes worn by the locals.
She herself changed into an obviously expensive cocktail dress. She had Lexy carry a large wooden gift box she’d prepared earlier with both hands. Weaving past a variety of luxury cars, they arrived at the main gate of the City Lord’s Manor.
After presenting a gilt Invitation Card, Faye Yardley and Lexy were quickly led into the banquet hall.
It really was a small world. Faye Yardley never expected to run into two surprising "acquaintances" here.
She had met both of them in Dungeon 5, the Clown’s Amusement Park.
One was the Kobold she had watched get shattered and devoured in a barrel-smashing game; the other was the incredibly powerful Catgirl from the log flume ride.
Apparently, the Kobold wasn’t an important guest, as he was stuck wandering the fringes of the banquet hall. The Catgirl, on the other hand, approached Faye Yardley with a beaming smile.
"Hey, we meet again!"
Faye Yardley smiled and nodded. "Yes. I never thought I’d run into you at the Lumina City Lord’s banquet."
"Me neither! See, I knew it. Anyone who catches my eye is bound to be special." The Catgirl happily extended a hand. "Let’s introduce ourselves properly. I’m Diana Quinn, future daughter-in-law of the Lumina City Lord."
"Faye Yardley."
Diana Quinn raised an eyebrow but didn’t comment. Instead, she led Faye Yardley over to meet her friends.
Faye Yardley hadn’t realized the main purpose of the banquet was for the City Lord to announce the engagements of his two children—one to someone from Serene Shadow City, and the other to the captain of The Omni-Verse Guard’s 3rd Squad.
Of course, it was joyous news and a cause for celebration.
Faye Yardley suddenly realized that the wedding attire and other similar items she’d gotten from a loot box earlier would make a perfect gift.
’I never would’ve guessed. The system is so thoughtful.’
All those items were sitting in her backpack. So, picking the perfect moment, Faye Yardley, as Diana Quinn’s friend, gifted her a full set of traditional wedding attire, complete with a phoenix crown and embroidered robes.
The gift left the Catgirl completely dazzled.
You had to admit, system-produced items were always top-quality. Diana Quinn and her fiancé, Delbert, were so openly delighted that they insisted on giving her a gift in return.
The return gift was also quite special. At least, Faye Yardley never knew a return gift could be an entire chest of Gold Coins.
The chest was filled to the brim, and a system notification promptly informed Faye Yardley that her Gold Coin balance had increased by exactly 10,000.
’So generous!’
’Those two are the definition of high rollers.’
Not only did she get money, but Faye Yardley’s All World Communication interface also added two new friends: Diana Quinn of Serene Shadow City and Delbert of Lumina.
The banquet was a lively affair. Glasses clinked as guests mingled, and every face beamed with a joyous smile.
Everyone seemed to be celebrating the engagements of the Lumina City Lord’s children.
Faye Yardley found an empty corner and sat down with a glass of juice. Lexy appeared at her side. "Thank you," he said. "My quest is complete."
"Don’t mention it. You should go to the area set up for attendants and get some food. Some of it might even grant temporary buffs."
"Oh, thanks for the tip. I was just going to leave. You’re right, I shouldn’t miss an opportunity like this."
Not long after Lexy left, a tall, curvy beauty appeared before her. The woman plopped down on the sofa next to Faye Yardley, turned her head slightly, and said, "Hello. I’m Delbert’s sister, Lilia."
Faye Yardley, slightly surprised, greeted her back. "Hello."
"I saw the wedding robes you gave my brother and my future sister-in-law. They’re absolutely beautiful, and I want a set just like them. Can you help me?"
’I have two more sets in my backpack,’ Faye Yardley thought, ’but I can’t just give her an identical one.’
’I’m not an idiot.’
So she said, "I can’t promise anything, but if you and your fiancé are willing to provide your measurements, I can try to find a designer willing to take on a commission when I get back. I can send you the design sketches first, and if you’re satisfied, we can have it custom-made by hand."
"Really? Can you guarantee it’ll be as exquisite as the one you gave my brother?"
Faye Yardley blinked and said, "I can provide the design, and you can use the finest cloth and threads to create the most magnificent, perfectly tailored wedding attire."
"That’s a good proposal. Hold on, I’ll have my steward come give you the exact measurements."
Faye Yardley quickly added, "I have a small shop in Lumina. Once the designs are ready, your steward can pick them up directly from there."
After Lilia left, the ’empty’ corner suddenly wasn’t so empty anymore.
She wasn’t sure if the newcomers hadn’t noticed her nestled in the sofa or if they simply didn’t care about being overheard, but either way, they completely ignored her and began to speak.
