Chapter 296: Putting the Special Large Group Chat Coupon to Use
Even so, she knew it wasn’t a good time to go and apologize to Eleanor Jonas. Besides, judging by how she’d sounded on the phone, she was still in the middle of work and not the least bit tired.
Faye Yardley didn’t go to sleep. Instead, she had the system pull up the 3D model of the island and used the pier construction blueprint.
She had all the necessary materials in her warehouse, so in the middle of the night, a fully functional pier materialized out of thin air on the coast of Conch Isle, not far from the planned town.
[Conch Isle Pier construction complete. Open to the public?]
Faye Yardley chose "No" without hesitation.
’With the island being so empty right now, who knows what would happen if I actually opened it to the public.’
After returning upstairs and taking a quick rinse, Faye Yardley collapsed into bed and fell asleep.
Early the next morning, Eleanor Jonas had already sent over the information for thirty-six people—all of them the fashion designers, embroidery masters, and veteran tailors Faye Yardley needed.
Faye Yardley looked at the list, a little troubled. ’Am I supposed to call them one by one?’
After a moment’s thought, she remembered she had a Special Large Group Chat Coupon and clicked to use it.
She pulled Eleanor Jonas into the large group chat first and told her to add all the candidates or their representatives.
For now, it was just the two of them chatting in the group.
Eleanor Jonas chuckled. "I thought you were going to interview them one by one."
Faye: "I don’t have time for that. Besides, I’m no expert. If any of them started using technical jargon, I wouldn’t understand a word. It’s better to put them all together, state my requirements, and see who can take the job."
Eleanor: "Alright, I’ll add a few of my assistants first and have them pull people in."
Faye: "Sounds good. The group limit is a thousand people, so add away. Oh, by the way, find me a few expert business negotiators and add them to this group too."
Eleanor: "You got it, you got it. Anything you want."
Soon, the number of group members jumped from 2 to 56, and the count kept climbing.
The number of group admins also went from 2 to 7.
As more people joined, the chat became lively. Faye Yardley immediately used the Great Silence Technique, then laid out her requirements.
She only lifted the silence after making sure most people had seen her message. She then announced that anyone with ideas could submit their work directly in the group for a vote. The person whose work received the most votes could make a request of her, and all participants would receive food and Pure Water as a consolation prize.
The group chat’s functions were actually quite comprehensive; Faye Yardley had just never used anything other than the Red Envelope feature in her smaller groups before.
Someone took the opportunity to ask if they could move to her island, become a resident, and leave the system to live as an ordinary person.
Faye Yardley gave an affirmative answer, on the condition that they had real skills. Then she gave them three days for the design phase and muted the group.
After that flurry of activity, it wasn’t even 6 a.m. yet. She didn’t know whether to be impressed by everyone’s enthusiasm.
The people who were invited into Faye Yardley’s large group chat were all genuinely skilled individuals, including a few experts who were particularly good at planning and layout design.
Faye Yardley also had her brother join the chat, and he, in turn, invited several players who were skilled at woodcarving.
Considering how many people were in the group, she decided to place some basic universal supplies like fruits, vegetables, Pure Water, weapons, and medicine in the group’s item inventory as rewards.
Then she used the Great Silence Technique again, posted her shop blueprint, and sought someone to design the layout. The requirements were for it to be comfortable and elegant, yet stylish.
It needed a space for people to sit and drink tea, as well as a display area for samples (wedding attire).
Only after the design was finalized could she special-order High Level furniture.
The High Level Wood she had been saving finally had a better use.
"Faye, come eat breakfast."
"Okay. What’s for breakfast today?"
"Red date congee and pan-fried dumplings."
Faye Yardley nodded. She found it truly delicious.
Just as she finished her pleasant breakfast, her brother called.
"What are you up to? Why are you having someone design a wedding dress for an ancient-style wedding? You’re not secretly dating behind my back, are you?"
Faye Yardley rolled her eyes at him. "What are you talking about? At your age, you still haven’t found a girlfriend. I’m still young, there’s no way."
"Then why the sudden need for a wedding dress design?"
"It’s for an order. I haven’t lost my mind. Besides, even if the system suddenly ordered me to get married right now, who would I even marry?"
’He’s being ridiculous,’ Faye Yardley thought. ’In a naval survival game where your life is constantly in danger, it’s not like I’m some love-struck fool. Why would I find someone else just to double my worries about how to survive out here?!’
’I’ve been lucky enough to survive pretty well so far, but that doesn’t completely dispel my underlying sense of insecurity.’
Faye Yardley didn’t know about other people, but when she didn’t feel secure enough, she knew for a fact she had no extra mental energy to waste on completely unnecessary things.
After getting rid of her brother, Faye Yardley muttered, "Jeez."
Then she headed for the training room.
By noon, Faye Yardley was lying on her back, floating on the surface of the sea.
She was truly just drifting with the current.
She imagined herself as a piece of driftwood, without thought or movement, just lying on the sea. She didn’t have to worry about being eaten by a big fish, because Bella and Cole Kensington were keeping watch nearby.
Besides, even if she tried her best to imagine herself as a senseless piece of wood, her body would still have an instinctive stress response if she encountered real danger.
After leaving the training room, she couldn’t immediately think of a better way to improve her strength, so she just jumped off the raft and dove into the seawater several times. This led to her current, seemingly listless state.
Listening to the sound of the sea might sound like nonsense, but at that moment, Faye Yardley felt inexplicably relaxed.
Both her body and her Spirit felt much more at ease than before.
Only in this moment did she feel light, even a little joyful.
A large yellow croaker swam rapidly toward her, only to be speared by Cole Kensington, who was riding on horseback.
"Faye, the variety of sea fish here is incredible. I’ve already speared twenty different types in the last half hour."
"Hm? Isn’t that a good thing?"
Cole Kensington didn’t know whether to say it was good or bad. After a moment of contemplation, he said, "There might be Piranha nearby."
"Piranha?" Faye Yardley sat up immediately, then slowly stood. "But aren’t Piranha supposed to live in harsh environments? The fact that so many different species of fish live in this area should mean the marine environment here is quite good."
Cole Kensington was even more confused. "But the sea where the Piranha-folk live is rich in resources and has a very good environment. So the Piranha should be similar, right?"
’After all,’ he thought, ’my Mer-clan only decided to attack the Piranha-folk’s territory because it was close by and had an even better environment than our own.’
’So why would the lesser Piranha live in harsh environments?’
In that moment, their respective blind spots in knowledge collided.
