Chapter 279: I Declare I Will Become the Island Master of This Island

On their way up the mountain, Master Veridian and Zephyr Sterling encountered all sorts of animals. They killed some and scared off others, but finally made it to the peak.

"This place is pretty big. Doesn’t look like anyone lives here."

Standing beside his master, Zephyr Sterling looked down and saw two small figures bobbing up and down in the tall grass.

"Hmm. Master, what are you thinking?"

"What thoughts could an old man like me have?"

"Heh." Zephyr Sterling knew that ever since his master had returned from the Isle of Damnation, he’d been obsessed with setting up a Protective Array. But no matter what he tried on the raft, it was never successful; the system wouldn’t recognize it.

So, the chance to be on an uninhabited island where he could experiment freely with the terrain was an incredibly tempting prospect for his master.

"I think you should probably let Yardley know. After all, she’s the one who brought us to the island, right?"

"It’s an uninhabited island. Do I really need to tell her about such a trivial thing?" Master Veridian didn’t think his attempt to set up an array was a big deal. ’It probably won’t matter whether I tell her or not.’

"Master, what if you actually succeed in setting up the array, and it causes some other chain reaction?"

"Ugh, so annoying! Fine, fine. You go talk to Yardley. I still need to look for a suitable spot. When I find one, I’ll set off a firework, and you all can head over. Just let me know then if she agrees or not."

Faye Yardley didn’t know what Master Veridian’s purpose for coming to the island was, but when she invited people, she never intended to restrict them. They were free to explore as they pleased.

Of course, it was essential that they could look out for each other if they ran into danger.

When Zephyr Sterling appeared before the two of them, he helped them finish off a small troop of monkeys they were fighting.

After killing the monkey-like creatures, none of the three chose to harvest them. Their upbringing made them unable to stomach the thought of eating monkey meat.

More importantly, none of the three were desperate for food.

However, Faye Yardley collected all five monkey corpses. She planned to take them back for Zachary Pierce’s research team to study whether the creatures on this island were different from those of the past.

"Mr. Zephyr Sterling, where’s Master Veridian?"

Zephyr Sterling pointed to the highest peak. "He’s still up on the mountain. Ever since he went to the Isle of Damnation and learned that village’s Protective Array, he’s been obsessed with trying to replicate it. He couldn’t set it up on the raft, so when you invited him to the island this time, he just couldn’t wait."

"The Master is planning to set up a Defense Array? That’s fantastic! But not on the mountain. Tell him to come down; we can find a flat area suitable for habitation." Faye Yardley genuinely thought this was great, plus they had already found a small freshwater lake on their way.

’If they found a better spot for the Master to set it up, and if he succeeded, she could build her home inside the array after claiming the island. Then she wouldn’t have to worry about it being destroyed by wild animals.’

’He’d known she wouldn’t object, but he was still surprised by how delighted she was.’

Zephyr Sterling let out a sharp cry toward the peak, a sound like clashing metal. A response echoed from the summit, and soon after, a figure was seen leaping from treetop to treetop, rushing down toward them.

Faye Yardley’s eyes grew brighter and brighter as she watched him approach. "Master, that’s incredible! Is that the Qinggong from wuxia novels?"

"Hahaha! Don’t you know Basic Martial Arts yourself? Just pick one discipline and practice it more. Besides, even if you don’t, you could probably do it with your current abilities." Master Veridian then added, "It seems you don’t object to what I have in mind."

"I don’t object at all. Let’s go, we’ll find a good spot."

The four of them advanced much more quickly than just two had.

They encountered an endless stream of animals. In addition to the rich fauna, the flora was also abundant; they could spot many familiar and unfamiliar wild vegetables and medicinal herbs without even looking.

’Almost an hour has passed, and Cole Kensington still hasn’t found me on Bella. This island must be at least 500 square kilometers.’

’Honestly, I’m growing more and more fond of this island.’

Finally, they saw a large plain surrounded by mountains on three sides. A wide river encircled the plain, and beyond the river lay a long mountain range. On the three mountains directly bordering the plain, there were several freshwater lakes of varying sizes. The moment Faye Yardley saw it, she decided this place was hers.

Faye Yardley pointed down at the land with heroic flair. "I declare, I will become the Island Master of this island!"

Then, she said in her mind, ’System, use Legendary Island Order.’

[Player Faye Yardley has used a Legendary Island Order on Island No. 3333, triggering the Island Master Quest. Do you accept the Island Master Quest?]

"Yes."

[Island Master Quest 1: Within five days, survey and map the island, and find its main resource points (at least two).]

[Island Master Quest 2 will begin after completing Island Master Quest 1. During the Island Master Quest period, Player Faye Yardley’s raft may remain near Island No. 3333. Time spent on the island cannot exceed 8 hours per day.]

Faye Yardley furrowed her brow slightly, then murmured to herself, "Resource points? Do these lakes count as a resource?"

Stroking his beard, Master Veridian, who was standing beside her and evidently had very sharp hearing, replied directly, "Freshwater is a vital resource, of course. You’re quite ambitious, Yardley. Others are still worrying about how to upgrade their rafts, and you’re already thinking about becoming an Island Master."

As soon as he finished speaking, Faye Yardley received a system notification: [Main island resource point found—Freshwater resource. Completion 1/2.]

She turned to look at Master Veridian in astonishment, a smile blossoming on her face. "Master, you’re a lifesaver! As for becoming an Island Master, hehe, I’m just a little ahead of the curve."

’So a resource point actually needs to be acknowledged by someone else.’

’That’s ridiculous. What would I do if I were here alone?’

’I want to make a call, but there’s no signal on the island. Looks like I’ll have to go back to the raft to contact anyone for help.’

As for the large, mammoth-like creatures on the plain, Faye Yardley was wondering whether to hunt them all or spend the effort to tame them.

"Faye, what are you going to do about those elephants? Kill them for meat?" Ethan Yardley looked at the creatures and felt they were not docile. It would be easier to just kill them.

’Since my sister is going to claim this place, it isn’t suitable for such ferocious animals to continue living here.’

Zephyr Sterling was surprised. "Can individuals really become an Island Master?"

Faye Yardley didn’t hide anything and answered directly, "You can, but first, you need a Legendary Island Order. Then, you have to find an unoccupied island that the system recognizes."

"Incredible!" Zephyr Sterling was genuinely impressed. ’A Legendary Island Order... He’d never even heard of such a thing, yet she already had one. And it looks like she’s already used it on this island.’
