Chapter 290: System Dad Loves Me, Silver Treasure Chest
Faye Yardley naturally asked Zachary Pierce and Eleanor Jonas to help with this matter.
She had no choice. Relying on herself would be a complete gamble. Even though her Luck Value was high, there was no telling if a doctor she found at random would have any professional integrity.
Faye Yardley still didn’t have the first clue how to be a proper Island Master.
’But there’s probably no rush.’
By the time she returned to the raft, Master Veridian had already left.
The two announcements about her once again sent the world into a frenzy. With the raging storm and harsh weather outside, most people were forced to huddle in their raft shelters, so a huge number of them were watching for news.
The public channel was flooded with all kinds of comments.
Gregory Yardley, in particular, was spewing curses at his screen, calling her an ungrateful wretch, a disgrace to the family, and worse. Once he had tired himself out from shouting, no one knew what he was thinking as a sinister smile crept onto his face.
"Dad, why is it always Faye Yardley in the spotlight? Why can’t it ever be me?! Damn it, damn it!" Felicity Yardley shrieked, slamming a rag doll around the living room. She was absolutely furious.
’It’s just not fair!’
Before they came to this godforsaken place, *she* had always been the brilliant one, the one everyone praised.
But now, not only did she have to live in constant fear, but she had also been completely overshadowed by her once-unremarkable cousin.
Jefferson Yardley watched his daughter helplessly. ’We’ve been here for over two months, how has she still not adjusted her mindset?’
Now, relatives like them were the ones who needed to rely on Ethan Yardley and his sister, not the other way around.
But this was the daughter he had doted on his whole life. It was natural for her to struggle with the fall from grace, so he figured he might as well let her vent. It wouldn’t do any good to lecture her while she was already in a temper.
"I’ll contact your grandfather in a little while and see if he has any ideas."
"Hmph. What good ideas could Grandpa possibly have? We’d be better off asking Grandma."
Jefferson Yardley said, his head aching, "Just go back to your room for now. Besides, becoming an Island Master isn’t necessarily a good thing."
Not everyone could be happy for another’s success. There were more than enough people filled with envy, jealousy, and hatred to go around.
When Logan Langdon saw the golden system announcement, he felt the air catch in his throat, almost choking.
Sometimes, he truly felt like he was being singled out. It seemed Faye Yardley was always one step ahead of him—always just that one little step he could never overcome.
It was enough to make him start doubting his own abilities.
As the leader of a major guild, he should have been riding high, but it felt like Faye Yardley’s very existence was stealing his thunder.
Gazing at the Island Occupation Order in his hand, Logan Langdon’s eyes flickered with indecision.
Faye Yardley, of course, had no idea just how many people were quietly plotting against her. At that moment, she was sitting cross-legged on her sofa, grinning foolishly at the Silver Treasure Chest on the coffee table.
From her limited experience, Silver Treasure Chests always contained good stuff.
To prepare for opening this chest, Faye Yardley even took a shower and changed into a fresh set of clothes. She took a deep breath, clasped her hands together with a devout expression, and prayed, "Oh, dear System, please, please give me something that’s perfect for what I need right now..."
[Obtained: Energy Protection Tower Blueprint ×1, Town Sewage Treatment System ×1, Town Water Supply System ×1, Magic Seed ×1, Island Concealment Array ×1]
Talent: Double Good Luck triggered. All rewards quadrupled.
"Whoa! System, I love you!"
She’d already experienced firsthand how useful Magic Seeds were. Thanks to her Talent’s bonus, she received four of them this time. Adding the one she had in storage, she now had a total of five.
’Hmm, I can probably give one to my brother. I wonder what he’ll end up growing.’
"System, can Conch Isle be displayed as a 3D model, just like the raft?"
A model of Conch Isle quickly materialized in the air before her.
The two systems she’d gotten from the chest both required town-planning blueprints to be implemented.
Faye Yardley thought, ’Should I be a bit more ambitious with the development? For example, what if I base the plans on a population of 200,000?’
’The previous plans were for 100,000 people. Wouldn’t that be a waste of these new systems?’
Deciding to act on the thought immediately, Faye Yardley contacted Zachary Pierce to explain her new requirements. He responded quickly, promising to have the new plans for her by tomorrow at the earliest.
After all, from Zachary Pierce’s perspective, if she wanted plans for a town of 200,000, it clearly meant she intended to take in that many people.
This was good news for them.
Losing the system wasn’t as catastrophic as one might think; in fact, many people wished they could be free of its bindings.
Since the new town plans wouldn’t be ready until tomorrow at the earliest, Faye Yardley turned her attention to the Island Concealment Array.
She learned that after activating the Concealment Array, outsiders would only see the portions of the island left uncovered. Furthermore, even people living on the island would be unable to enter the concealed areas.
However, a single Array could hide a maximum of 300 square kilometers.
The total land area of Conch Isle, however, was 887 square kilometers.
Faye Yardley studied the model for a moment. She then used two Concealment Arrays to hide a total of 500 square kilometers, which included the area around her designated defense zones 5, 6, 7, and 8, as well as a large central region.
After this, the island’s visible area to outsiders would be just 387 square kilometers. It would appear to be a relatively small island, which would greatly reduce others’ desire to fight over it.
By concealing the mineral deposits, she also wouldn’t have to worry about them being discovered by any adventurous explorers on the island.
Although the island already had the Defense Array set up by Master Veridian, an Energy Protection Tower was still extremely useful.
So, she crafted and placed one tower over the residential area and another over the mining area.
’With double the protection, the people who come to the island shouldn’t have any problem surviving, right?’ she thought.
Faye Yardley mulled it over and felt she had done the best she could. If problems still arose, that would be on the islanders themselves.
The revealed terrain of Conch Isle now somewhat resembled a bone with meat on the ends.
Since she had extra sets of the sewage treatment and water supply systems, she didn’t hesitate to send one of each to her brother, along with a Magic Seed.
The two systems could be installed at his guild’s headquarters, and she also sent him a voice message with instructions for the Magic Seed.
After a moment’s thought, she remembered she still had that butler-style intelligent robot. She felt now was the perfect time to put it to use.
This time, she decided to give it the appearance of a middle-aged man. After all, a middle-aged man would be more suitable for assisting Wyatt Thorne on the island.
No sooner said than done.
A handsome, middle-aged man soon appeared before her. Faye Yardley named him Franklin Yardley, making him Willow Yardley’s father.
Willow Yardley, standing to the side, was left speechless. ’I have a dad now, just like that?!’
"Willow, make a meat dish for your father," Faye Yardley said, taking out a piece of meat that radiated Divinity.
Willow Yardley accepted the meat, gulping as she did, while Franklin Yardley instinctively began to follow her.
