Chapter 219: Choice, Using the Coralisle Invitation Card
Faye Yardley had no idea what her brother was discussing, and she wouldn’t have cared even if she did.
She had already learned not to interfere with her brother’s decisions.
She was no longer the insecure girl she used to be, constantly fraught with anxiety.
Sure enough, only by becoming strong yourself can you find true security and, in turn, provide it for others.
Her brother didn’t force her to join his team or stay by his side, precisely because he knew she was capable enough to live well on her own.
Only now did she finally understand what people meant when they said the world is yours only when you are good enough and strong enough.
"Willow, why do you think this world, as awful as it’s become, is still so hard to let go of?"
"Maybe it’s because it’s the place where you were born and raised."
Faye Yardley took a sip of hot water, then turned to look at Willow Yardley and asked, "You’re considered a digital lifeform, right? You must have your own people, then?"
Willow Yardley froze for a moment, then nodded. "Yes, that’s right. But our world has no warm, biological lifeforms like you. To obtain a physical body, we must either forcefully invade other races or, like me, pay the price of our sapient existence to sign a compulsory contract with the system. Otherwise, I could only remain a low-level mechanical lifeform."
"A strict class system?"
"Mhm. Beings like me are basically consumables, with no channels for advancement. Since I’d be a consumable no matter where I was, I wanted to try a different way, to see different worlds."
"Are all intelligent robots beings like you?"
Willow Yardley shook her head. "Not many. There’s a fixed quota. I don’t know how many are here, but the total number shouldn’t exceed one hundred."
This was the first time Faye Yardley realized that not every intelligent robot could be as sapient as her Willow.
After all, Willow Yardley was, in essence, a lifeform herself, possessing her own consciousness.
If only the first one hundred people to acquire an intelligent robot got a helper like her, then that number was pitifully small compared to the entire population of Aquaria.
She patted Willow Yardley’s shoulder. "I’m so lucky to have met you."
Willow Yardley chuckled. "You have it backward. I’m the one who’s lucky to have met you."
Since that was the case, Faye Yardley thought she could also give a piece of the meat with Divinity to Rainie Yardley, the one with her brother.
Their initial choice was likely to escape the oppression of their own world.
’Perhaps it was just jumping from one pit into another, but for them, it was still a choice.’
Kyle Lewis was silent on his raft. He had originally thought his father was living the high life back in their old world, but it turned out his dad was having a worse time than they were.
He was furious when he learned his father had cheated during the marriage, but seeing how miserably he was living, he surprisingly didn’t feel any satisfaction. He was even a little worried about him.
With a low sigh, he knew he definitely couldn’t talk to his mom about this. So who could he talk to?
After thinking it over, he decided to briefly explain his situation in Faye Yardley’s small group chat and ask for advice.
Bonnie Callahan didn’t hold back at all. After reading it, she directly said: Why would you want a scumbag dad like that? To worship him like an ancestor? Are you doing right by the mother who went through so much hardship to raise you? If Ms. Chandler knew you were thinking this, she’d be heartbroken.
Leo Sloan: Callahan, don’t get so worked up. Even though Kyle’s father did something wrong, he’s still his dad. It’s perfectly normal for him to feel conflicted and worried.
Bonnie Callahan: Normal my ass! Mr. Sloan, you can’t just side with him because you’re a man!
Gavin Donovan: Miss Bonnie is right. You don’t need to care whether an irresponsible man like that lives or dies. He didn’t even pay child support when he was doing well. Now he wants to freeload. That’s too unfair to Ms. Chandler.
Kyle Lewis: Miss Bonnie, Donovan, don’t try to get one over on me. You should at least call my mom "auntie."
Bonnie Callahan: Hmph. You still have the mind for this stuff? You’d be better off saving that excess sympathy for some lonely old folks.
Wade Warren: To be fair, Kyle is still a kind-hearted kid, which shows that Ms. Chandler raised him well. I don’t think Kyle needs to bring his father onto his raft. Once his dad enters this world, just giving him a little help should be enough. For example, give him some wood so he can upgrade his raft to Level 3 as soon as possible. That way, you’ll have fulfilled your filial duty. It won’t hurt Ms. Chandler’s feelings too much, either.
Faye Yardley actually saw their argument, as messages were constantly scrolling across her screen.
But she didn’t offer her opinion. She felt they all had valid points. It was completely unnecessary to take him onto the raft, but it would also be normal to ignore him completely.
In the end, what to do was Kyle Lewis’s business. Even his mother, Ms. Chandler, couldn’t interfere.
However, she saw Kyle Lewis’s decision: Thanks for all the valuable advice, everyone. I’ve decided to follow Mr. Warren’s suggestion. After all, I plan to meet up and merge rafts with my mom, and I don’t want to make her upset.
"Good. He didn’t make a decision that would upset you."
Willow Yardley’s words made Faye Yardley pause. "You think I would be upset if he took in his father?"
"Mhm. If he’d made that choice, you definitely would have kicked him out of the group."
"Hahaha..."
Faye Yardley couldn’t help but burst out laughing. That was actually very likely. Willow Yardley really did understand her so well.
After laughing for a while, Faye Yardley finally said, "Yes, yes, you’re right. A cold-hearted person like me can’t stand seeing people around me being too much of a pushover."
"That’s not it at all. You’re very different with warm-hearted people like Pierce and Miss Jonas."
Faye Yardley drained the hot water in her cup and handed the empty cup to Willow Yardley. "Alright, I know you get me. Go put this away. I understand the current situation on Aquaria now. It’s not like I can change anything anyway. I should just focus on training and improving myself."
With that, Faye Yardley prepared to head out to the adjacent training room.
Nothing was more important than increasing her own strength.
’Whether these companions I know now will stick with me is still an unknown.’
’What will The Merfolk’s Coralisle be like?’
Faye Yardley felt a flicker of anticipation.
’It would be even better if I could run into Bella Dillon there.’
’Who wouldn’t want to meet a familiar friend in an unfamiliar place?’
’I guess you could say Bella Dillon and I are friends, right?’
「In the blink of an eye, the appointed time on the next day arrived.」
At seven in the morning, the sun was already rising, but the temperature wasn’t high—only around ten degrees.
As expected, you couldn’t rely on your experiences from Aquaria here.
Every day here could be a different season.
"Faye, I’m ready. Let’s confirm use together."
"Okay."
After Faye Yardley confirmed its use, she vanished from her raft.
Ethan Yardley confirmed just 0.01 seconds after her, only to get a system notification: [The Coralisle Invitation Card cannot be activated at this time. Please wait for the previous esteemed guest to depart before using.]
"You’ve got to be kidding me! Coralisle can’t be the size of a fingernail, can it? It can’t even host two guests at once?!"
