Georgia Thorne completely lost her appetite. She put down her chopsticks and just kept sipping water.

Nancy Hughes, lost in her own excitement, chattered away, oblivious to Georgia’s expression.

During their lunch break, Nancy Hughes took Georgia on a tour. "So, what do you think? This time you’ve gotten a real, proper look at your husband’s company!"

Nancy was about to continue when Georgia called out to her, "Nancy!"

"What’s wrong?" she asked, turning around in confusion.

Georgia looked at her with a serious expression. "We’ve separated."

"Who?" Nancy was baffled for a moment, then she realized there was only one person Georgia could be talking about.

"You and Elliot Sheridan?" Nancy covered her mouth in shock. "Thankfully no one’s around. Things were going so well, why did you separate?"

"It happened a long time ago," Georgia said. "Nancy, there’s something I forgot to tell you. I had a miscarriage."

Nancy’s eyes widened in horror. "What in the world happened?!"

Georgia poured out everything she had been bottling up, including what happened with Aidan Sheridan.

"Oh, you silly Georgia, why didn’t you tell me sooner? Do you not see me as your best friend anymore?" Nancy grabbed Georgia’s hands, her heart aching for her.

She never would have known. All this time, she thought Georgia and Elliot Sheridan were living happily ever after, but the reality was this.

"So where are you living now?"

"With Byron Shaw."

"Attorney Shaw?" Nancy was still catching up. "How did you end up living with him?"

"Byron Shaw is my maternal uncle."

"..." Nancy was so shocked she couldn’t close her mouth. She couldn’t help but marvel at how small the world was.

"So what about you and Elliot Sheridan? Are you just going to stay separated forever?" Nancy asked tentatively.

"Maybe."

After her talk with Nancy, Georgia returned to the office and got back to work.

Just before the end of the workday, Georgia received a call from Lynn Thorne. "Georgia, it’s been a while since we got together. Do you want to come over for dinner tonight?"

"Okay, I’ll head over after work."

When work was over, Georgia packed up her things. As she was about to leave, she noticed Kai was still working.

"Aren’t you heading home?"

Kai turned around. "You go on ahead. I want to finish up what I’m drawing."

"Is that..." Georgia began, frowning as she looked at Kai’s drawing. He hastily covered it. "It’s just something I was doodling."

Lynn Thorne had her own place. She had invited Georgia over for dinner mainly to introduce someone to her.

"This is Leo Jarvis, and this is my younger sister, Georgia Thorne."

Lynn introduced them to each other with a gentle smile.

After divorcing Finn Sutton, Lynn Thorne had moved out of the Thorne family home. She and Luke moved into their own place, and she’d been working while raising her son.

Leo Jarvis and Georgia greeted each other. Leo smiled. "You two sisters catch up. I’ll go pick up Luke."

"Okay, drive safe!"

In the kitchen, Lynn asked in a low voice, "What do you think of him?"

The "him," of course, was Leo Jarvis.

Georgia’s first impression of Leo Jarvis was that he was a gentle and refined man. Moreover, she could see the affection he had for Lynn in his eyes.

"Sis, do *you* think he’s a good man?" Georgia asked in return, meeting Lynn’s sweet smile.

The answer was already written on her face. Lynn’s answer was obviously yes, but she was hesitant. "Leo is a wonderful person. After dating him for a while, I’ve found that he’s considerate in every way and he’s great with Luke. But a couple of days ago, he suddenly brought up marriage, and now I’m a little hesitant."

As Lynn spoke of marriage, an undeniable sadness clouded her features.

"Sis, don’t let what happened with Finn Sutton make you afraid of marriage. If you really think Leo is a good man, give yourself a chance, and give him one, too. Don’t let fear make you miss out on your own happiness."

Lynn nodded. Just then, she heard Leo Jarvis’s voice from outside. "Lynn, where’s the first-aid kit?"

Hearing this, Lynn rushed out to see her son riding on Leo’s back. "Get down from there! Don’t make Mr. Jarvis carry you!"

Leo put the child down on the sofa. "Luke hurt his foot. Do you have a first-aid kit?"

Lynn looked at her son’s foot, which was badly swollen. "What happened?"

Luke Sutton said nonchalantly, "I took a tumble during gym class. I didn’t even cry!"

At his age, Luke was proud of not crying over an injury. He was even bragging to Leo about what happened at school that day.

Leo patted the boy’s head dotingly. "Is that so? Not crying is what makes you a real man!"

Lynn came back with the first-aid kit and saw Leo happily playing with her son. An inexplicable sense of relief washed over her.

She knelt, opened the kit, and chided Luke, "You’re just too mischievous!"

Luke Sutton stuck out his tongue, completely unfazed by his mother’s scolding. He even turned to Leo to complain, "Mr. Jarvis, look how mean my mom is!"

Leo chuckled and took the medicine from Lynn’s hand. "You go get busy. I’ll put the ointment on for Luke."

Lynn trusted Leo completely, so she handed him the medicine and went back to the kitchen.

Georgia had seen the whole exchange and could tell that Leo was genuinely good to both Lynn and her son.

When Luke Sutton saw his aunt, he remembered their previous conversation and blinked slyly. "Auntie, where’s the present you promised to buy me?"

"Auntie didn’t bring it this time. I’ll bring it for you next time!" Georgia said with a smile, ruffling his hair.

Luke was a little disappointed, pouting. "Then when are you going to buy it for me, Auntie? I want to show my new toy to Miles!"

At Luke’s age, all he wanted to do was play with his friends. Even with an injured foot, he was thinking about going to see his best buddy.

"You’re already hurt, can’t you just take it easy for a bit?"

"Mom, I’ll just go play with Miles for a little while! I’ll be back really soon!" Luke pleaded with his mother, hopping on one foot.

Lynn flatly refused, so Luke turned to Leo for help.

Since Leo wanted to marry Lynn, he naturally had to get on her son’s good side. He spoke up, "Let him go play for a bit."

Lynn sighed. "Go, but come back soon, and don’t bother them, you hear?"

Luke nodded eagerly, and after making a few more promises, he hopped out the door in a hurry.

"Who’s Miles?" Georgia asked.

"He’s the son of the new neighbors who moved in upstairs. This little rascal runs up to play with him every day."

"Luke is at that age where he just wants to play. It’s normal for him to want to make more friends."

The real reason Lynn had invited Georgia over was to ask her opinion of Leo.

After observing him for a while, Georgia thought Leo was a great guy. He was well-spoken and well-mannered, and he was genuinely good to Lynn and Luke.

Out of Leo’s line of sight, she gave Lynn a subtle thumbs-up and whispered, "Marry him already!"

Lynn’s face flushed red, and she slapped her sister’s hand away. "What nonsense are you talking about!"

Georgia stayed until after nine before getting ready to head back.

As she was going downstairs, she saw two figures sitting on the landing. One of them looked a lot like Luke Sutton.

"Luke, what are you doing here?"

"Auntie!" Luke called out happily. He then introduced the person next to him. "Auntie, this is my best friend, Miles!"

’Miles?’

Georgia followed his gaze and saw the boy sitting next to him, Miles, glaring at her with such hostility it made her heart jump.

Miles was very young, but his guarded expression seemed familiar, as if she’d seen it somewhere before.

Georgia smiled and said, "Hello there!"

Miles just snorted coldly and turned his head away, refusing to look at her.

Georgia froze. ’Did I just get snubbed by a little boy?’

"Miles, this is my auntie! How can you be like that?" Luke was not happy with his friend’s attitude. "My auntie is super nice! She’s the one who’s going to buy me a toy!"

"She’s a bad person. I hate her!" Miles scoffed.

"My auntie is not a bad person!" Luke’s face fell, and he glared at his friend angrily. "Even though you’re my best friend, you can’t say bad things about my auntie! You apologize to her right now!"

Miles ignored Luke completely, his eyes fixed straight ahead.

Georgia felt completely bewildered. From the very first glance, she could feel Miles’s deep-seated hostility toward her. ’What’s going on?’

"Alright, you two, stop fighting," Georgia said, stepping in. "Luke, you should get back upstairs before your mom starts to worry."

Luke was still angry. He huffed, "Miles, if you don’t apologize to my auntie, I’m never playing with you again!"

With that, he ran upstairs.

Georgia glanced at the little boy still sitting on the stairs. Although she didn’t understand why he was so hostile toward her, she still said, "You should head home soon, too, or your mom will start to worry."

The boy looked up, facing her directly. "I don’t need your fake concern!"

Georgia, "..."

Having been thoroughly rebuffed, Georgia rubbed her nose and left.

A slender figure brushed past her, hurrying into the apartment building.

She heard the boy’s voice ring out clearly, "Mom!"

Georgia turned back and saw the boy happily hugging a woman. ’So he was waiting for his mom.’

Georgia had been working at the Sheridan Group for almost a week, and she spent every day on edge, terrified of running into *that person*.

It wasn’t until she overheard someone mention that Elliot Sheridan was away on a business trip that she was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief.

Lately, Georgia had been completely swamped with work, often staying late.

She had just finished up her tasks when she looked up and realized the office was empty.

A glance at her watch told her it was already more than half an hour past closing time.

She was packing up her things and about to turn off the lights when a voice came from behind her. "Wait!"

Georgia turned around. Kai came running over, his bag slung over his shoulder. "Why’d you come back?"

"I forgot something. Only remembered when I was halfway home," Kai said, looking embarrassed.

Georgia turned the light back on. Kai went to his desk and picked up a drawing tube. "I was in such a hurry to leave that I forgot this."

They locked the office door and walked to the main entrance.

Kai asked, "Where do you live?"

Georgia gave him the general area. A look of surprise crossed Kai’s face. "What a coincidence! I live there too. Do you live in the Veridian apartments?"
