Chapter 270 - 259: You Can’t Escape the Palm of My Hand (1)

From Georgia Thorne’s silence, Byron Shaw had a pretty good idea that what Elliot Sheridan said was most likely true.

Byron Shaw said, "Georgia, if Elliot Sheridan is threatening you, we can sue him!"

’He did threaten me, but he threatened me with his own death. How am I supposed to sue over that?’

Georgia Thorne said weakly, "I’m not going to get a divorce anymore!"

"So you two have made up?"

"...Yeah!" Georgia Thorne answered after a moment of hesitation.

"Georgia, with your qualities, you could totally find someone better than Elliot Sheridan. You don’t have to hang yourself on one tree!" Byron Shaw opened his laptop and logged into his email. Seeing the email from Elliot Sheridan, he glanced at the photos inside and said, "Think about it carefully!"

After dealing with Byron Shaw last night, Georgia Thorne went straight to bed. She was truly exhausted.

First thing in the morning, she patted her forehead to wake herself up a bit before heading to work early.

She sat in the office all morning, feeling like something was missing.

That was until Seth Shields called. "Georgia Thorne, where are you? Why haven’t you come to the company yet!"

Georgia Thorne was bewildered. ’I’m sitting in the office right now!’

She looked around and realized there wasn’t a single other person in the office.

’Oh no. During yesterday’s meeting, Seth Shields said we were going back to Archetype Company for a meeting today. I completely forgot!’

She shot up from her chair. "I’m so sorry, I’ll be right there!"

’This is driving me crazy!’

By the time Georgia Thorne rushed back to Archetype Company, it was already past noon.

She collapsed onto her desk, exhausted. Seth Shields, face dark, called her into his office.

Georgia Thorne quietly asked what the morning meeting was about. Wendy Young just said something about meeting a client, then gave her a "you’re on your own" kind of look.

Inside the office, Seth Shields first gave her a harsh lecture, then got down to business. "How are the design drawings coming along?"

"I just need to finish some of the base colors, then it can move into production!"

"Hurry it up. You have three weeks. I don’t need to tell you how important this exhibition is, you should understand that yourself!"

Georgia Thorne nodded. Designers from all over the country would be attending this exhibition. If you wanted to make a name for yourself, that was the night to do it.

Seeing he had nothing else for her, Georgia Thorne was about to leave his office when she heard Seth Shields add, "Wait. Don’t forget to attend the business dinner tonight!"

"Okay!"

Outside the office, however, Georgia Thorne asked Wendy Young in confusion, "What business dinner?"

Who was this "big client" they met in the morning that had Wendy Young looking so bashful?

The last time Wendy Young had acted like a giddy young girl was when she met Elliot Sheridan.

Wendy Young propped her chin on one hand, lost in a pleasant memory of the big client from the morning. "Georgia, that Erin Irving is so handsome!"

Georgia Thorne took a sip of water and nearly spat it out. "Who did you say?"

"Erin Irving! From the Irving Group!" Wendy Young continued, her chin still in her hand. "Don’t just see him as a general manager now. The Irving Family only has him as an heir. This entire vast family fortune will all be his someday, won’t it? He’s definitely going to be the successor to the Irving Group. Just imagine if he took a liking to someone. Wouldn’t they be set for life?"

Wendy Young was like a smitten heroine from a romance novel, full of countless fantasies about love, hoping that Erin Irving would notice her at the dinner tonight.

Georgia Thorne silently drank her water and turned back to her computer.

’But about tonight’s dinner... How can I completely avoid Erin Irving? Should I go or not?’

Georgia Thorne thought about it all afternoon but still couldn’t come to a decision.

Before getting off work, Georgia Thorne sent a text to Elliot Sheridan: "I have a business dinner tonight, I can’t come to the hospital!"

Wendy Young was packing her bag. "Georgia, hurry up, it’s time to go!"

"Coming!" Georgia Thorne called out. Not having received a text back from Elliot Sheridan, she put her phone in her bag.

Inside the private room, Georgia Thorne glanced at the people at the table. Half were from her company, and the other half were from Erin Irving’s.

Erin Irving sat in the center seat, and next to him, their design department head was continuously toasting him.

Georgia Thorne kept her head down, quietly eating the food in her bowl. Beside her, Wendy Young whispered in her ear, "What do you think of Erin Irving?"

"He’s alright, I guess."

"Tsk, tsk, you really have high standards!" Wendy Young disagreed with Georgia Thorne’s assessment, then added, "Oh, right. I forgot you already have a handsome husband like Elliot Sheridan. Of course you wouldn’t be interested in other men!"

Elliot Sheridan’s handsomeness was the cold, imposing type, while Erin Irving’s was the gentle, refined type. They were two different kinds of attractive.

The more Wendy Young looked at Erin Irving, the more handsome she found him. Propping her chin on her hand, she asked Georgia Thorne for advice, "So, how did you end up marrying Elliot Sheridan? Can you teach me your ways?"

Georgia Thorne took a sip of juice, feeling mentally exhausted.

Not even halfway through the dinner, the drinking grew more intense. Even the female colleagues couldn’t escape it.

When it was Georgia Thorne’s turn to make a toast, she stood up with a glass of baijiu. "Mr. Irving."

Her hand holding the glass was trembling slightly. To be honest, Georgia Thorne was afraid Erin Irving would make things difficult for her, but unexpectedly, he downed the drink without fuss.

Georgia Thorne had eaten a good amount of food earlier, so the glass of liquor didn’t cause too much of a problem.

But just as she sat down, another colleague came to toast her. Georgia Thorne had no choice but to refill her glass. She was just raising it to stand up when she heard the man in the seat of honor say, "Miss Thorne isn’t feeling well. I’ll drink this glass for her!"

Georgia Thorne bit her lip, her cold gaze sweeping over to Erin Irving. She knew he wouldn’t let her off so easily.

As he spoke, Erin Irving had already filled his own glass and drank it down.

Erin Irving had never drunk on someone else’s behalf before. Georgia Thorne was the first.

Everyone exchanged glances, looking from Georgia Thorne to Erin Irving, assuming there was some complicated relationship between them.

These days, it was incredibly easy for a rich and powerful man to pursue a woman. Erin Irving didn’t even have to lift a finger; someone had already pushed Georgia Thorne right in front of him.

After Erin Irving drank for Georgia Thorne, no one else dared to toast her.

People had expected something to happen between the two, but after waiting for a long time, they saw Erin Irving make no further moves.

Before long, the atmosphere at the table livened up again. Wendy Young took the opportunity to quietly ask about her relationship with Erin Irving.

Georgia Thorne gave her a cool glance. "If I said we have no relationship, would you believe me?"

A flash of disbelief immediately crossed Wendy Young’s eyes. Georgia knew she wouldn’t believe it.

Anyone could see that Erin Irving’s attention was on Georgia Thorne. Even while drinking with others, his gaze never left her.

A "thoughtful" person proactively offered to switch seats with Georgia Thorne, forcing her to sit next to Erin Irving.

Georgia Thorne was naturally unwilling. Just as she stood up, she heard Erin Irving say, "Georgia Thorne, you can’t escape the palm of my hand."

Georgia Thorne glanced down at him. ’How would I know if I don’t try!’

"Excuse me, I need to use the restroom!" She gave a slight smile and left the suffocating private room.

It was only ten minutes, but when she returned, the scene inside the private room had completely changed.

Seeing the man sitting in her seat, for a moment, Georgia Thorne thought her eyes were playing tricks on her.

’Isn’t he in the hospital? What is he doing here?!’

Georgia Thorne stood frozen to the spot until Elliot Sheridan called her name, his voice soft and tender, "Georgia, why haven’t you come over?"

Georgia Thorne paused. Elliot Sheridan’s gentle gaze made her feel dazed.

In the past two days, he had recuperated well in the hospital. At the very least, his vibrant expression showed no sign that he had been sick.

Elliot Sheridan walked over, took her hand, and introduced her to everyone. "This is my wife, Georgia Thorne."

Before, the news of Georgia Thorne and Elliot Sheridan’s marriage was just a rumor circulating at the company. Now that Elliot Sheridan had said it himself, it was as good as an official announcement of their relationship.

Georgia Thorne, Elliot Sheridan’s wife—another new identity.

Someone perceptive nearby hurriedly gave up their seat for Georgia Thorne. Elliot Sheridan grasped her small hand, lacing their fingers together. "Have you eaten dinner?"

Georgia Thorne nodded, still at a loss over his sudden appearance.

A harsh glint flashed through Erin Irving’s eyes, but it vanished just as quickly.

"Miss Thorne is married? How come I’ve never heard of it?"

Before Georgia Thorne could answer, Elliot Sheridan spoke up. "She likes to keep a low profile."

"Oh?" Erin Irving looked at Elliot Sheridan with a smile. "We’ve been old classmates for so many years, how come I’ve never heard you mention it?"

Elliot Sheridan toyed with Georgia Thorne’s palm, gently kneading her hand, and drifted off in thought.

’She’s gotten so thin lately, eating so little, sleeping so little. All the weight he’d helped her put on before is gone. It makes his heart ache to see it. He secretly decided he would slowly nurture Georgia Thorne under his wing again, preferably making her even chubbier than before.’

Just when everyone thought Elliot Sheridan would ignore Erin Irving’s question and leave him hanging, the man spoke again, his tone cool. "Weren’t you busy with that last bidding project?"

Everyone knew about the bid presentation that Erin Irving and Elliot Sheridan had both attended. Although on the surface it seemed Erin Irving had stolen the show, the previously approved official documents were suddenly changed later on. The government department stubbornly refused to grant approval.

Erin Irving had to call in favors and spend a great deal of manpower, resources, and time to properly clean up the mess of a project. At the same time, he was harshly criticized by his father.

Because of this, Erin Irving’s hatred for Elliot Sheridan grew. The profits from that project were enormous; no wonder he had thought it strange at the time that Elliot Sheridan had shown no reaction at all.

He had been swamped and overwhelmed, while the other guy got to relax and was probably laughing at him in secret.

Erin Irving’s expression suddenly changed. He smiled cryptically and brought up in front of Georgia Thorne, "Quentin Chase is back. We old classmates should meet up alone some other day. I imagine Quentin Chase would also be very interested in Miss Thorne."

His cold, smiling gaze swept over Georgia Thorne, and her body stiffened.

’Quentin Chase...’ An indescribable feeling surged in her heart. Georgia Thorne clenched her fists, feeling the pads of the man’s fingers press into her palm as he replied faintly, "Sure!"
