A moment later, a shadow fell over her.

Georgia Thorne was wondering how Nancy Hughes had returned so quickly. Before she could turn around, she heard Owen Sawyer’s voice. "Ma’am, the President asked me to hold this umbrella for you."

"Thanks!" Georgia Thorne looked into the distance, where Elliot Sheridan was talking with someone.

He wasn’t holding an umbrella in the fine rain, and beads of water dotted his black hair.

Georgia took the umbrella from Owen. A moment later, she saw one of the fawning men around Elliot hold an umbrella over his head.

Nancy Hughes ran over, panting, with an umbrella, but when she saw Georgia already had one, she closed it.

"If I’d known your husband was sending an umbrella, I wouldn’t have rushed so much." Nancy was out of breath and covered in sweat. She was incredibly hot.

Georgia glanced in Elliot’s direction, just as his gaze shifted to her.

Standing directly across from Georgia, Erin Irving saw this and smiled with great interest. "Well, this is interesting."

The man chatting with Erin Irving was baffled by his sudden remark. "President Irving, what do you mean?"

Erin Irving’s eyes locked onto Georgia’s profile, the smile in them deepening. "This rain today is really something wonderful!"

The man beside him was even more confused by Erin Irving’s words, utterly baffled.

’If it weren’t for this rain, I really wouldn’t have known.’

’Elliot Sheridan would rather get soaked himself than not have his assistant deliver an umbrella to Georgia Thorne.’

Erin Irving’s mood brightened. He hadn’t expected to uncover such a big secret by coming here today.

’No wonder I couldn’t find any clues from Amanda Thorne. It turns out the real person of interest was someone else entirely.’

’Elliot Sheridan really knows how to hide someone away.’

As Georgia retracted her gaze, she inadvertently met the eyes staring at her from across the way.

Her eyes wavered for a moment before quickly calming. ’He probably didn’t see Owen give me the umbrella just now.’

After the funeral, Georgia got into the car with Nancy Hughes.

A figure stepped in front of the car, blocking their path.

Nancy rolled down the window and shouted at the person outside, "Sir, could you please move!"

Then she turned back inside, muttering, "Is this guy blind? Deliberately blocking my way. Is he trying to pull a scam?!"

The man in the suit walked over and knocked on Georgia’s window.

Georgia rolled down the window. "Can I help you?"

The man took a business card from his pocket. "Miss Thorne, my president is very interested in you and would like to become friends."

"Sorry, I’m not interested."

With a cold expression, Georgia rolled up the window and told Nancy to drive.

Nancy slammed on the gas and sped off. "Who was that guy?!"

"I don’t know him!"

Nancy tutted. "Well, well. You’re a married woman, and your charm hasn’t faded one bit. Still got guys giving you their cards. If I’d known, I would’ve grabbed it to see which big shot is interested in you."

Nancy was joking, but Georgia didn’t say anything.

She recognized the man from just now.

He was the man who followed Erin Irving, someone like an assistant, similar to Owen Sawyer.

Georgia didn’t have a good impression of Erin Irving and had no desire for him to be interested in her.

She’d avoid him as much as she possibly could.

Ever since cutting ties with Jared Thorne, she realized that besides Elliot Sheridan’s apartment, she had nowhere else to go.

The lease on her own apartment had expired, and Nancy Hughes was already living with Dylan Heston.

Georgia didn’t want to go home, but she discovered that she had nowhere else to go but home.

Nancy drove her and saw her safely to the apartment building.

A black car followed closely behind them.

The car pulled over to the side of the road. Inside, Elliot Sheridan watched Georgia wave goodbye to Nancy.

Owen Sawyer glanced nervously at the man in the back seat and asked softly, "President, aren’t you going upstairs?"

Elliot leaned back against the seat, closing his eyes wearily. "Drive to the office," he ordered.

"Yes, sir!"

「At the office」

Owen glanced at the clock on the wall. It was almost eight, and Elliot still hadn’t called him into the office.

’What’s gotten into the President today?’

’Could it be that he fought with his wife again?’

Owen stroked his chin. He figured this was probably serious.

In the President’s office, Elliot stared at the open file in front of him, unable to take in a single one of the densely packed words.

His mind was filled with thoughts of Georgia.

’What is she doing now? Is she still grieving over Zane Lennox’s death?’

After a moment, the housekeeper at home called, saying that Georgia had been sleeping and still hadn’t woken up.

Elliot glanced at the time. It was past eight. ’Why isn’t she eating?’

’She didn’t eat this morning, didn’t eat at noon, and isn’t eating tonight. Is she planning to starve herself to death and be buried with Zane Lennox?!’

The thought of the funeral that morning made the anger simmering in his heart flare up. ’She knew Zane Lennox’s parents couldn’t stand her, but she still insisted on going there to get chewed out.’

Elliot felt like a real fool. She was starving herself for another man, and in the end, he was the one worrying about her.

Furious, he swept all the documents from his desk onto the floor.

Outside, Owen heard the commotion and knew the President must have finally lost his temper.

’Looks like he really did fight with his wife.’

A few seconds later, Elliot rushed out, grabbing his keys. Owen immediately pretended to be busy, turning around to say, "President, where are you going?"

Elliot turned his head and shot him a cold glare before striding quickly into the elevator.

’Okay, stupid question.’

「Back at the apartment」

Georgia was exhausted. She took off her clothes and fell asleep.

Half-asleep, she heard a noise outside, which sounded like the housekeeper’s voice. She mumbled a reply, her head groggy, feeling an even stronger urge to sleep.

After some unknown amount of time, she felt a warm chest holding her. Georgia curled up, feeling so incredibly warm that she wanted to press her whole body against it.

Elliot held her in his arms. He had come back intending to lose his temper, but seeing her sleeping face, all his anger subsided.

He hadn’t slept with her for several nights. He missed her so, so much.

He lifted the covers, and before he could pull her close, she snuggled up against him on her own.

"Hubby..." Georgia’s voice was soft and mushy, with the coquettish tone of a woman seeking affection. It was an unconscious murmur. She rubbed her pale little face against his chest.

If there was any anger still lingering in his heart, her small action extinguished it completely.

"As long as you know to call me ’Hubby’!" Elliot pinched Georgia’s cheek. She whimpered softly, and only then did he let go, satisfied.

’Tomorrow morning,’ he thought, ’I have to have a serious talk with her!’

Georgia felt like she was dreaming. In the dream, Elliot was holding her as she slept, making her feel incredibly secure.

She could smell the man’s faint scent, feel puffs of his warm breath on her forehead. The dream felt far too real.

She really couldn’t sleep on the nights he wasn’t by her side. When she did manage to sleep, it was filled with nightmares.

At this thought, Georgia hugged Elliot’s body even tighter, telling herself she was still lost in a dream.

When Georgia fully woke up, she tried to move and found that she couldn’t.

Opening her eyes, she saw the man beside her and her eyes flew wide in shock.

’What is he doing here?’

Her mind raced in a momentary panic. She suddenly remembered her dream from earlier. ’Could it be that it was real?’

Elliot was still asleep. Georgia wanted to kick herself in regret. ’How could I have slept so soundly!’

She carefully lifted the arm resting on her stomach, sat up quietly, and was about to get out of bed when a man’s voice drifted into her ear from behind, "Where are you going?"

The moment she moved, Elliot had woken up.

He hadn’t let on that he was awake because he wanted to see how she would react.

Just as he’d expected, she was still trying to run away from him.

Elliot grabbed her shoulder and pulled her into his arms. "We need to talk!"

Georgia didn’t have time to react. With a small cry, she found herself in Elliot’s embrace.

She struggled. "I have nothing to talk to you about!"

Elliot gripped her chin, forcing her to look him in the eye. "Well, I have something to talk to you about!"

Georgia’s gaze lingered on Elliot’s face for a few seconds before quickly darting away.

"Get up!"

Georgia’s face flushed with anger. This position, with him on top of her, was far too intimate. How were they supposed to talk like this?

"No!" Elliot held her down, acting like a rogue. "If you don’t tell me what’s on your mind today, we’re staying just like this!"

Georgia, "..."

She’d met shameless people before, but she’d never met anyone as shameless as him.

She struggled with all her might but couldn’t break free, only succeeding in exhausting herself.

"Elliot Sheridan!" Her cheeks were flushed with anger, which only made her look cuter in Elliot’s eyes. "Be good. Just last night you were clinging to me and calling me ’Hubby’!"

"..."

Georgia couldn’t remember anything about last night.

"Elliot, let me go. I’m really not in the mood to joke with you right now." Elliot gave a faint smile, but Georgia couldn’t bring herself to smile back.

Zane Lennox was dead, and the man in front of her might be connected to it. She really couldn’t smile.

She couldn’t treat this like their previous little squabbles, where she’d be happy again after a little coaxing from Elliot.

Elliot’s smile faded. "I’m not joking with you, either."

He released Georgia and sat up beside her. "If it’s about me hiding the fact that Naomi Shaw is your mother, then I apologize."

"I don’t need your apology. I just want you to tell me the truth." Georgia frowned, her voice low and serious. "Elliot, why did you marry me in the first place?"

It wasn’t that Georgia didn’t care who her real mother was; she cared more about her marriage and her relationship with Elliot.

"...No ulterior motive."

Georgia studied Elliot’s handsome face. He had hesitated for a few seconds before answering her question, and his brow had furrowed slightly.

"No ulterior motive? Then why did you hesitate when you answered? Why did you take me to see your brother and Naomi Shaw? Wasn’t it to force your brother and Naomi Shaw to break up? I want to hear the truth."

"Georgia, my marrying you had nothing to do with anything Naomi Shaw said. Even if she had already married my brother, I still would have married you without a second thought!"
