Chapter 226 - 215: I’m Not Going. Are You Planning to Lock Me Up for Life? (Part 2)
Elliot Sheridan pinched the bridge of his nose, telling himself to wait patiently.
He ended up waiting for over half an hour.
Erin Irving walked out of the hospital, followed by Amanda Thorne.
The two didn’t show much emotion as they parted ways. Erin Irving got into her car and left immediately.
After watching the car drive off into the distance, Elliot Sheridan gave a look, and Owen Sawyer immediately had the driver unlock the car doors.
Inside the hospital room, Georgia Thorne was sleeping peacefully.
The doctor said the patient had multiple injuries from a fall and her lower leg was in a cast, but there were no major issues.
Hearing this, Selena Sheridan let out a huge sigh of relief.
’As long as Georgia is okay. Otherwise, my uncle would have worried himself to death.’
When Amanda Thorne returned, she saw Selena Sheridan confronting her parents and grew furious.
Just as she was about to speak, Selena Sheridan looked past her. Her eyes lit up, and she shouted, "Uncle!"
Elliot Sheridan strode over, his expression dark and grim.
Amanda Thorne immediately turned around, a happy look on her face as she saw Elliot Sheridan. But as she moved to greet him, the cold, detached aura he exuded intimidated her, and she froze in place.
Jared Thorne and Hayley Sullivan were both timid people. Even though they wanted to strike up a conversation, Elliot Sheridan’s gloomy stare made their hearts pound with panic.
Elliot Sheridan walked to Selena Sheridan’s side and gave the family of three an inscrutable look. "I heard Georgia fell from an upper floor?"
Selena Sheridan grunted in affirmation. "They must have done something terrible to Georgia Thorne!"
Jared Thorne immediately wanted to deny it, but one icy glare from Elliot Sheridan scared him into silence.
’Selena Sheridan is definitely on Georgia Thorne’s side, and since Elliot Sheridan is Selena’s uncle, he’s basically on Georgia’s side too.’
’If Georgia Thorne wakes up and tells them what happened, we’re definitely finished.’
’If we offend Elliot Sheridan, we’ll have no way out.’
Jared Thorne shot a panicked glare at Hayley Sullivan. ’It’s all this woman’s fault for coming up with such a stupid idea.’
’And now look. We’ve brought huge trouble upon ourselves.’
"How is she now?" Elliot Sheridan asked, his gaze shifting to the unconscious Georgia Thorne on the hospital bed. His eyes filled with heartache and pity for her.
Selena Sheridan, who hadn’t been very bold earlier, now had Elliot Sheridan backing her up. Her voice grew louder. "Georgia fell from an upper floor! Her leg is broken, she has scrapes all over her body, and she’s still unconscious!"
"Uncle, Georgia Thorne is my only best friend! You have to help me!"
"We’ll handle everything through legal channels!" His cold tone was laced with suppressed rage directed at the Thorne Family.
’This might be the perfect opportunity to help Georgia Thorne cut ties with the Thorne Family.’
"Please, no, President Sheridan!" Jared Thorne panicked at the mention of legal channels. He immediately stepped forward, trying to placate him. "Georgia has always been a mischievous girl. Maybe she just fell by accident. You can’t blame us for that, can you?"
"Are you saying it was entirely Georgia Thorne’s own fault that she fell from an upper floor?"
"Isn’t it obvious!" Hayley Sullivan replied in a shrill voice. ’How else could it be!’
"Uncle, they’re spouting shameless lies!" Selena Sheridan truly felt the Thorne Family was shameless. "When Georgia Thorne wakes up, we’ll ask her and find out what terrible things they did!"
Elliot Sheridan’s expression remained grim. Of course, he didn’t believe a word Jared Thorne said.
"You can all go home now. We will take care of Georgia Thorne," Elliot Sheridan said in a cold voice, leaving no room for refusal.
"But Georgia Thorne hasn’t woken up yet, we..." ’How can we leave!’
Jared Thorne didn’t get to finish before Elliot Sheridan looked over. "What, are you planning to threaten Georgia Thorne again?"
"Of-of course not!" Jared Thorne stammered, terrified by his sinister tone.
’Now that Georgia Thorne has the Sheridan Family’s protection, she’ll definitely tell the truth.’
"Then get the hell out!"
"Yes, yes!"
Not daring to even look Elliot Sheridan in the eye, Jared Thorne quickly left with his wife and daughter.
Back in the car, Jared Thorne was filled with anxiety. "This is all your fault for that stupid idea of locking Georgia Thorne up to make her submit! This is just great. We didn’t get a single benefit, and now we’re the ones in trouble!"
Hayley Sullivan got angry too. "You didn’t object when I brought it up! Now that there’s trouble, you’re blaming me? Jared Thorne, do you have any conscience at all? I’ve been with you for so many years..."
"Enough! Can you two just shut up!" Amanda Thorne couldn’t stand it anymore. She frowned. "Now that something’s happened, all you know how to do is blame each other. Can’t you think of a way to fix this? Is arguing going to solve anything?!"
Amanda Thorne nervously ran her fingers through her hair. Thinking of Elliot Sheridan’s icy expression toward her, she was filled with regret.
’Elliot Sheridan arrived at the hospital not long after I did. Did he see me with Erin Irving?’
’From the very first day she met him, Elliot Sheridan had warned her that he liked ’clean’ women.’
’In the past, whenever she fooled around with other men, she always did it secretly, behind Elliot Sheridan’s back.’
’I can’t believe he caught me this time.’
’The two men were more or less equals, but Elliot Sheridan’s mature charm was more appealing to her.’
Everyone assumed Elliot Sheridan was standing up for Georgia Thorne because of his niece, Selena Sheridan, but no one realized he was actually doing it for Georgia herself.
Selena Sheridan stayed for a while longer before heading home, leaving the two of them some space.
Elliot Sheridan moved a chair and sat by the hospital bed.
His large, warm hand enveloped Georgia Thorne’s small one, and he gently stroked the back of her hand with his thumb, his heart aching for her.
’At that moment, when he saw Georgia Thorne fall, he thought he was going to fall apart.’
’If Owen Sawyer hadn’t been there to hold him back, he would have rushed over recklessly.’
’The more time passed, the more important Georgia Thorne became to him, so important that she had almost completely taken over his heart.’
’In the past, Elliot Sheridan would have never believed he could fall so hard for someone.’
He felt both heartache and anger over Georgia Thorne’s actions.
’Was she trying to get herself killed? To be so bold as to jump from an upper floor...’
To prevent the Thorne Family from bothering Georgia Thorne, Elliot Sheridan decided to move her to a safe place first.
When the medical staff moved to lift Georgia Thorne, Elliot Sheridan stopped them.
’He would handle this himself.’
He lifted the blanket, carefully slid one arm under Georgia Thorne’s neck and the other under her legs, and lifted her into his arms.
The hospital Elliot Sheridan transferred Georgia Thorne to was none other than the one where Mr. Sheridan was staying.
Georgia Thorne woke up in the early morning. Every bone in her body felt dislocated, and the pain was so intense she could barely speak.
She opened her eyes to a bright white ceiling, the air filled with the fragrance of fresh flowers.
’It felt like a hospital, but also not like one.’
A dull, throbbing pain in her head was indescribable.
Elliot Sheridan, who had watched over her all night, saw her open her eyes and immediately leaned forward with delight. "Are you feeling any better?"
Through her blurry vision, a handsome face came into view. All her anxiety melted away, replaced by a sense of peace that settled in her heart.
She wanted to reach out and grab Elliot Sheridan but found she had no strength in her arms. Her voice was hoarse as she called his name, "El... Elliot Sheridan..."
Elliot Sheridan noticed her movement and hastily took her hand, yet he was afraid to squeeze too tightly for fear of hurting her.
"I’m here, I’m here..."
Warm tears streamed from the corners of her eyes, making the man’s face in front of her even more blurry.
Georgia Thorne clutched Elliot Sheridan’s fingers tightly and began to cry silently.
’The moment she fell, she had been so afraid that she would never see Elliot Sheridan again.’
Georgia Thorne cried for a while until, exhausted, she cried herself back to sleep.
Elliot Sheridan remained by her side, never leaving.
Seeing her brow furrowed even in her sleep made his heart ache even more.
In the morning, Jared Thorne and Hayley Sullivan rushed to the hospital.
’It would be best to see Georgia Thorne the moment she wakes up and make sure she keeps her mouth shut and doesn’t spout nonsense in front of Elliot Sheridan.’
However, when they arrived at the room, they found a man staying there instead. Georgia Thorne was gone.
They found a nurse and asked, only to learn that someone had transferred Georgia Thorne from the hospital in the early hours of the morning.
’Someone transferred Georgia Thorne?’
Jared Thorne was curious who this man was. He asked the nurse, but she said she didn’t know either—just that some man from out of town, who looked rich, powerful, and not to be trifled with, had brought a group of people in and taken the patient away.
’A man from out of town? Rich and powerful, and someone we’ve never seen before?’
’Who could it be?’
Looking at all of Portmire, besides Elliot Sheridan, there was no one else like that.
But the nurse clearly wasn’t talking about Elliot Sheridan; otherwise, she would have just said his name.
Jared Thorne grew even more confused. ’How did Georgia Thorne get to know such a powerful figure?’
Unable to find her, Jared Thorne had no choice but to leave with Hayley Sullivan.
The nurse watched Jared Thorne and Hayley Sullivan leave, then turned and walked toward a corner.
"I said everything just as you instructed."
"They weren’t suspicious?"
The nurse shook her head. Owen Sawyer took a check from his pocket. "Not a word of this gets out, understand?"
The nurse’s eyes lit up at the sight of the money, and she nodded repeatedly. "I understand."
"You may go."
Owen Sawyer waved the nurse away. As he turned to walk out, he made a phone call.
"Hello, I need to speak with Attorney Shaw. Please tell him it’s regarding Georgia Thorne."
Hayley Sullivan complained from her seat in the car, "I told you we shouldn’t have come! See? It was a completely wasted trip!"
Jared Thorne didn’t say anything, thinking that something was off about Georgia Thorne.
’No wonder she’s become so defiant. It seems she’s found herself a powerful backer.’
When they returned to the Thorne Family home, they saw several police cars parked at their front door.
"We received a report that someone fell from an upper floor of your house last night. We’re here to investigate."
"Do you have a search warrant?!" Jared Thorne had someone block the doorway, refusing to let them in.
At the same time, he glanced at Hayley Sullivan out of the corner of his eye.
Hayley Sullivan quickly told someone to go upstairs and remove the iron chain from Georgia Thorne’s door.
They had returned late last night, and thinking there might still be room for negotiation, they hadn’t been in a rush to remove the chain.
Now, even if they wanted to remove it, it was too late.
