Chapter 283 - 270: I’ll Just Get Far, Far Away
Elliot Sheridan turned off the light and took a deep breath as he walked toward the bed.
This was the first time he’d be sleeping with Georgia Thorne since they got married, and he felt so pathetic.
As soon as he slipped under the covers, Georgia Thorne’s scorching hot body pressed against him. "Elliot Sheridan, you’re so cool. It feels really nice!"
Georgia was feeling hot and wanted nothing more than to press her entire body against Elliot Sheridan, sprawling on his chest and rubbing her face comfortably against him.
"Mm, don’t move around. Go to sleep!" Elliot Sheridan took another deep breath and held Georgia’s fidgeting head still.
Georgia settled down for a moment, then suddenly spoke in the quiet darkness. "Elliot Sheridan, I’m hugging you. Why aren’t you hugging me back?"
Just as she asked, Elliot Sheridan wrapped his arms around Georgia’s body.
"Elliot Sheridan, why are your arms so stiff? Why don’t you pull me closer?"
After a moment, Georgia nuzzled against him in dissatisfaction, pressing herself even closer to Elliot Sheridan’s body.
If Elliot Sheridan was a pile of dry kindling, then Georgia was a raging inferno, intent on burning him to ashes.
Finally, he couldn’t hold back any longer. He spoke, his voice hoarse, his tone deep—everything about it betrayed his intense desire for her.
"Georgia Thorne, do you have any idea what you’re doing right now?" Elliot Sheridan tilted his head to look at the woman in his arms. In that moment, he felt she was perfectly lucid.
However, Georgia Thorne was, in fact, drunk.
Georgia burrowed deeper under the covers, pulling away from Elliot Sheridan’s arms.
His arms were suddenly empty, and a wave of hollowness washed over him. But it was for the best. He wouldn’t have to endure this...
Just as the feeling of loss settled in his heart, Georgia climbed on top of him.
In the darkness, a pair of impossibly bright, glistening eyes stared down at him. "Elliot Sheridan, kiss me, okay?"
"What are you saying?" he asked, his voice strained, hardly daring to believe his own ears.
Georgia giggled foolishly, tracing circles on his chest with her finger before poking it firmly. "Don’t you want to kiss me?"
’Of course I do. I want to like crazy!’
"Georgia, do you know what you’re doing right now?" Elliot Sheridan asked in a low voice, speaking slowly and deliberately. "You’re tempting me, seducing me. Do you realize that?"
’And more importantly, I’m about to lose control!’
His normally formidable self-control vanished into thin air whenever he was with Georgia Thorne.
Georgia nodded emphatically. "Elliot Sheridan, I want to kiss you!"
The words had barely left her lips when her vision blurred. Before her sluggish nerves could even react, Georgia found herself pinned beneath him.
"What do you want to do?" he continued, pressing the question.
Georgia smiled dazedly, then suddenly changed the subject, demanding, "Elliot Sheridan, you went on a business trip. Why didn’t you text me?"
"I did!"
"But I didn’t get it!" Drunk people are fickle. The girl who had been giggling foolishly moments ago was now angry. "Elliot Sheridan, you liar! You never texted me, and you didn’t call me either. Do you not care about me at all? SOB SOB..."
"I didn’t text you because I was afraid I’d annoy you!" They say a drunk person’s words are a sober person’s thoughts. ’So Georgia does care about me?’
He had actually hesitated, wondering whether he should text her to let her know he was on a business trip.
But then he remembered the topic she’d refused to discuss the night before last, and he thought maybe this trip would give her some time to think things over.
While on the trip, he received daily reports about her. She was busy, staying in her studio all the time. He’d even heard that Iris Warner had been causing trouble for her again.
Every night, he fell asleep to the image of her face, and when he woke, it was from a dream about her.
"Elliot Sheridan, I’m so angry!" Georgia suddenly started to cry. "You obviously don’t care about me, so why did you introduce me to other people?!"
Faced with her unreasonable accusations, Elliot Sheridan only felt a warmth spreading through his chest, a heat that surged in waves.
He moved close to her cheek and slowly kissed her. "Nonsense. Who said I don’t care about you?"
"Liar!" Her bright eyes filled with glistening tears, accusing him of lying.
"Why would I lie to you? You’re my wife. If I don’t care about you, who else could I possibly care about? Right?"
"Elliot Sheridan, you’re so annoying! Don’t kiss me! Go away!"
"Hey now, you were just asking me to kiss you a moment ago. How could you go back on your word so quickly?"
"Hmph! Mmph..."
Elliot Sheridan decided to play the rogue, taking the initiative to capture Georgia Thorne’s lips, channeling all his joy into a passionate, fiery kiss.
Early the next morning, Georgia Thorne was woken by an intense thirst.
Sensing something wasn’t right, her eyes flew open in shock.
She stared at the familiar ceiling, then looked at the man beside her. Peeking under the covers, she saw that Elliot Sheridan was completely naked—and more importantly, there were several scratch marks on his back.
Georgia Thorne was no fool. Her first thought was, ’Did I get drunk and sleep with Elliot Sheridan last night?’
Their relationship was still in such an ambiguous state. ’This is insane!’
Georgia scrambled to sit up. The man beside her mumbled, "Where are you going?"
She answered in a small voice, "I have to use the restroom!"
’What in the world happened?!’
Last night, she only remembered drinking too much. After that, her memory was a complete blank; she couldn’t recall a single thing that happened.
Let alone how this drunken escapade had come about.
A sober Georgia Thorne was nowhere near as bold as she had been the previous night. She threw on her clothes and, before Elliot Sheridan could wake up, she ran.
The sky outside was a dreary gray, and the cars on the road were pitifully few.
Georgia Thorne hailed a taxi, glancing at the time. It was just after six.
Georgia Thorne had just gotten back to her apartment when she received a call from Chloe Gardner. "Georgia Thorne, have you thought about it?"
"About what?"
"About coming on a trip with me!" Chloe Gardner said excitedly from the other end of the line.
’When Elliot Sheridan wakes up and finds me gone, he’ll definitely come after me right away.’
’And I’m not ready to see him just yet!’
Georgia Thorne bit her lip. "I’ll go. Where are you? I’ll pack my bags and meet you!"
Chloe Gardner readily agreed to meet at the train station, and Georgia quickly packed a few changes of clothes.
The train was at 8:20, and they had agreed to meet at the station at eight o’clock.
As soon as she finished packing, Georgia rushed to the train station, arriving at only seven-thirty.
She was very early. Her mind was a chaotic mess as she tried her best to recall the events of last night, but she truly couldn’t remember a thing.
’Drinking really gets you into trouble. Why did I impulsively take that drink for him yesterday?’
Georgia Thorne was in a state of deep regret, slumped over a table listlessly, when Chloe Gardner finally sauntered in.
"Sorry, sorry, there was traffic!"
Georgia glanced at the time. The train was leaving in ten minutes.
The two of them boarded the train with their luggage, and Chloe Gardner took out her phone to call her son.
Georgia sat beside her, listening to her call him "sweetheart" and "darling son." She was slightly surprised; she hadn’t expected that Chloe really had a son.
"By the way, how did you leave last night?" Georgia asked curiously.
After the exhibition ended yesterday, Georgia had specifically asked Wendy Young, but Wendy had shaken her head, saying Chloe Gardner was already gone by the time she went inside to look for her.
Chloe Gardner grinned. "I figured you had a handsome man by your side, so you must have forgotten all about me!"
At the mention of a handsome man, Georgia’s face suddenly burned hot and red. An image abruptly flashed in her mind: her hands wrapped tightly around Elliot Sheridan’s body.
"How else would I leave? I went back the same way I came!" Chloe Gardner sighed briefly. "But I really didn’t expect so many people to show up for that runway show last night!"
"Yeah, most of the people at the exhibition last night were big shots from the business world, but of course, there were also many designers from all over," Georgia nodded. Just meeting the famous designers Elliot had introduced her to yesterday had been exciting enough for her.
Chloe Gardner rubbed her chin and asked with some concern, "Do you think I look that different from last night? Is there any chance someone will recognize me?"
Last night she had been seductive and glamorous; today she was pure and sweet. Hardly anyone would connect the two personas. Georgia shook her head.
"That’s a relief!"
Years ago, Chloe Gardner had moved away with her family to a small town far from Portmire.
It was an ancient town with hundreds of years of history, boasting beautiful scenery and the tranquil charm of a classic southern river town.
The town used to be very poor, with only a few hundred households in total. But after the government developed its tourism industry, many tourists had flocked here in the past couple of years, drawn by its reputation.
Chloe Gardner had lived here for at least seven or eight years and was extremely familiar with the area.
After getting off the train, the two took a bus for over an hour before finally arriving at her home.
The train ride itself was over three hours long. Georgia felt a bit carsick, but she was also feeling nervous and apprehensive.
She followed Chloe Gardner as they twisted and turned through a small alley. Just as they stepped through a doorway, she heard the tender voice of a small child.
"Chloe, you’re back!" His voice rang out before he appeared.
Hearing the cute voice, Georgia guessed the child must be just as adorable.
And she was right. A little boy ran out from the house, his facial features delicate and bearing a faint resemblance to Chloe Gardner.
The little boy wasn’t shy at all. He boldly sized up Georgia, then turned to Chloe Gardner and frowned. "Chloe, is my old man a woman?"
As he said it, he looked at Georgia with an expression full of unwillingness and grievance.
Georgia was taken aback by the child’s words and looked at Chloe Gardner.
Chloe tapped the boy on the head. "What nonsense are you spouting? This is Mommy’s friend. You should call her Auntie!"
Then she turned to the startled Georgia. "Georgia, don’t mind him. My son’s been wild since he was little! He’s a bit crude when he talks."
As she spoke, she shot a glare at her son. The little boy immediately grumbled in discontent, "You’re the one who’s crude!"
