Chapter 279 - 266: Elliot Sheridan, Will You Be Good to Me?
Iris Warner rolled her eyes in anger. "Hmph, still better than some people!"
’Is she trying to indirectly mock me for how much I ate at lunch?!’
Her gaze swept over Georgia Thorne from head to toe, her eyes filled with disdain.
"How could I ever compare to Miss Warner? I’m just a designer, offering my honest opinion," Georgia Thorne said with a modest smile.
Iris Warner just huffed, not wanting to argue with Georgia Thorne and lower herself.
"Miss Warner, please come back to the company in five days for a fitting," Georgia Thorne said as she saw Iris Warner out, not forgetting to give her a reminder.
But Iris Warner completely ignored her and left directly with her assistant.
Georgia Thorne sat in her chair, holding the data she had recorded. Half an hour had passed since she finished taking Iris Warner’s measurements.
It was past lunchtime, but she wasn’t that hungry anymore.
She didn’t feel like eating, but after a certain someone inadvertently learned she hadn’t eaten lunch, he made a special trip down from upstairs.
At that moment, Georgia Thorne was asleep, slumped over her desk. She hadn’t slept well the previous night because of the situation next door.
"Georgia Thorne, wake up!" Elliot Sheridan patted her cheek. Georgia stirred, unconsciously brushing her hair aside.
Then she opened her eyes to see a handsome face magnified in front of her. For a moment, she thought she was dreaming.
’I’ve been spending so much time with Elliot Sheridan these past few days. Am I going crazy? I see him both in my dreams and when I’m awake.’
But she quickly snapped to her senses, because a prickling numbness in her arm was stimulating her nerves.
That was always the downside of sleeping with your head on your arms.
Georgia Thorne furrowed her delicate brows and shook her hand, feeling as if her entire arm didn’t belong to her.
Elliot Sheridan massaged it for her for a moment. "Don’t sleep at your desk like this in the future. It’s bad for your eyes."
Georgia Thorne subconsciously wanted to retort, ’If I don’t sleep at my desk, where am I supposed to sleep?’
After a moment’s thought, she kept her mouth shut. Elliot Sheridan seemed to read her mind and said, "There’s a bed in my office. You can come up and sleep there during your lunch break."
"..." ’Why does that sound so wrong?’
She sullenly changed the subject. "What did you come down here for?"
Only then did Elliot Sheridan remember his purpose. "I heard you didn’t eat lunch. I came to take you to eat."
This "I heard" was the result of Owen Sawyer not seeing Georgia Thorne in the employee cafeteria, going out of his way to ask Wendy Young, and then making a special trip to report it to Elliot Sheridan.
"I don’t want to eat."
’Does she really not want to eat, or does she just not want to eat with me?’
Elliot Sheridan collected his thoughts before speaking. "Georgia, I haven’t eaten lunch either. How about you just keep me company?"
"..."
Elliot Sheridan had originally planned to drive her to a restaurant a bit farther away for a nicer meal.
But Georgia Thorne said she had a lot of work to do in the afternoon, so they just ate at a small diner near the company.
It was a little snack shop that served a bit of everything. Georgia Thorne ordered a bowl of small wontons and a bowl of plain congee for Elliot Sheridan.
She was still mindful of his stomach problems.
In truth, if he hadn’t said he hadn’t eaten lunch, Georgia Thorne wouldn’t have wanted to come at all.
A bowl of congee and a bowl of small wontons were served.
Georgia Thorne poured vinegar into her wontons. Elliot Sheridan frowned. "They’re not dumplings. Why are you pouring so much vinegar in there?"
"None of your business!" Georgia Thorne retorted. She was feeling quite irritable at the moment!
As for what was making her so irritable, she couldn’t figure it out herself.
When Elliot Sheridan was in a bad mood with her, he was truly awful. But when he was nice to her, he was unbelievably nice.
Georgia Thorne slowly began to eat her wontons when the man beside her suddenly spoke again in a concerned tone, "Be careful, it’s hot!"
"Mmph!"
The moment Elliot Sheridan’s words fell, Georgia Thorne did indeed burn her tongue. She whimpered as tears instantly welled up in her eyes.
The man who had been sitting across from her was now beside her. "Did you really burn it?"
Georgia Thorne nodded repeatedly. Not only had she burned it, she had also bitten her tongue.
She looked at him pitifully. "You jinxed me."
"Alright, alright, I jinxed you. Let me see!" Elliot Sheridan said, going along with her.
He tried to get Georgia Thorne to open her mouth, but she refused. After a long, stubborn standoff, she finally let him see.
"It’s bleeding!"
The pain subsided for Georgia Thorne, and it didn’t hurt as much as it did at first, but she was still tearing up. "Elliot Sheridan, will you be good to me?"
The moment she asked, Georgia Thorne regretted it so much she could have kicked herself.
It took Elliot Sheridan a moment to process what she’d said. Then, overjoyed, he replied, "Of course I’ll be good to you! If I’m not good to you, who will be?"
Georgia Thorne looked aggrieved. "But you yelled at me at the hospital before!"
Elliot Sheridan was speechless. "..."
’I didn’t do it on purpose! I just wanted to get your attention!’
Elliot Sheridan had always wanted to have a proper talk with Georgia Thorne about that topic. He believed it was a crucial turning point for their relationship to improve.
But afterward, Georgia Thorne kept her lips pressed together, clearly not wanting to bring it up.
When the company employees saw Elliot Sheridan and Georgia Thorne coming and going together, everyone started to envy Georgia Thorne again.
They felt their CEO was genuinely good to Georgia Thorne, and it was an eye-opener for them—it turned out their CEO could be a gentle person too.
Georgia Thorne was constantly busy with work. She needed to produce a lot in five days, so time was tight.
Seeing her spinning like a top every day, unable to stop, Wendy Young took the opportunity during their lunch break to ask, "Georgia Thorne, aren’t you tired of working like this every single day?"
Georgia Thorne hastily took a few bites of her meal. "How can you feel tired when you’re facing your dream?"
Georgia Thorne would voluntarily stay late at the company to work overtime, and she would even stay up all night at home to revise the details of the clothes.
Five days flew by. To prevent a repeat of last time, Georgia Thorne contacted them early to confirm the appointment.
She called the assistant. Tina Griffin sounded troubled on the other end. "Miss Thorne..."
Tina Griffin’s point was basically that Iris Warner was a very busy person right now, rushing between engagements. She had a live broadcast to do soon, so she couldn’t get away and asked if Georgia could come to her instead.
*Heh.* She had even called Iris Warner herself yesterday to personally confirm she would come today.
Georgia Thorne said, "I understand. Where are you? I’ll head over right away!"
Iris Warner’s live broadcast was at one in the afternoon. To make it in time, Georgia Thorne didn’t even eat lunch and rushed over with the clothes.
It was Georgia Thorne’s first time at a television station. A crowd of people holding signs was gathered at the entrance, presumably fans of some celebrity.
Georgia Thorne squeezed through the crowd only to be stopped at the door by a security guard. "Miss, you can’t go in!"
"I’m here to see someone."
"Isn’t everyone who tries to get in here to see someone?" The security guard glanced at the other frantic fans. He probably mistook her for another one of them.
"No, that’s not it. I’m a designer from Archetype Company. I have an appointment with Miss Iris Warner today..."
"Sorry, miss. No one gets in here without a pass." The guard replied quickly, clearly not believing a word she said.
This guard had been at the TV station for many years and had seen all sorts of lies from fans. He didn’t believe a single word of it now.
Left with no other choice, Georgia Thorne called Tina Griffin.
A moment later, Tina Griffin came rushing down from upstairs and said a few words to the guard.
Only then did the guard look at Georgia Thorne and say, "Sorry about that, miss. The fans these days are such incredible liars, that’s why I didn’t let you in!"
"It’s fine." Georgia Thorne shook her head, clutching the bag in her hands as she followed Tina Griffin inside.
Iris Warner’s status was different now. Her value had risen with her fame, and unlike other less popular celebrities, she had her own private dressing room.
When Georgia Thorne entered, Iris Warner was getting a manicure. She glanced over at Georgia. "What took you so long?"
’She was the one who broke her promise, and she has the nerve to say I’m late.’
Georgia Thorne forced a stiff smile. "Sorry, there was traffic."
In those five days, Georgia Thorne had exhausted all her energy to tailor-make five outfits for Iris Warner.
The high-pressure work had almost broken her, but she had managed to pull through.
Because this was her first major project since starting the job, Georgia Thorne was exceptionally diligent. She stayed up late every night, and now there were dark circles under her puffy eyes.
Georgia Thorne took the clothes out of the bag. "Miss Warner, I’ve brought the clothes. Would you like to try them on now?"
’If there’s anything that doesn’t fit right, I can probably alter the details and strive for perfection.’
"Can’t you see I’m getting my nails done? I have to be on a live broadcast later. What if I chip a nail?"
"Then let’s wait until your nails are dry for the fitting."
Iris Warner looked down, humming a song in a good mood. She even took a picture of her nails and posted it on Weibo to share her state of mind.
Georgia Thorne stood there awkwardly, completely ignored.
She waited patiently for Iris Warner’s nails to be finished, but then the live broadcast began.
Now she had to wait indefinitely. Surrounded by directors, Iris Warner left for the studio.
Her assistant, Tina Griffin, stayed behind and said apologetically, "I’m so sorry for making you wait so long!"
"It’s fine." ’It’s not like this is the first time I’ve seen Iris Warner’s personality.’
Sweet in public, but demanding and critical behind the scenes.
"It must be boring waiting here. Why don’t you come to the studio with me?" Tina Griffin suggested. "It’s actually pretty fun!"
"No, it’s okay. I’ll just wait for you to come back here."
She wasn’t interested in things like broadcast studios. Tina Griffin didn’t press the issue and hurried off.
The live broadcast was scheduled for two hours. After sitting for an hour, Georgia Thorne’s stomach started to feel upset.
She hurried out, asked a staff member for directions, and found the restroom.
Coincidentally, just as Georgia Thorne was coming out of the restroom, an incredibly innocent-looking young girl next to her looked at her with a surprised and delighted expression. "Georgia Thorne? You’re Georgia Thorne, right?"
Georgia Thorne was bewildered. She looked at the young girl before her. "I’m sorry, are you...?"
"You don’t remember me!" The girl looked disappointed. "We used to be classmates!"
