Chapter 217 - 207: Am I, Your Husband, a Petty Person? (1)
Elliot’s bout of anger came as quickly as it went.
After the kiss, Georgia hugged him and felt the tension leave his body.
’He must not be angry anymore,’ Georgia thought.
Her slender fingers clutched the hem of his shirt. In the heat of the kiss, she had unknowingly pulled it free from his belt.
An unintentional glance fell upon his firm muscles.
Elliot pinned her against the wall, his handsome hand caressing her cheek. He exhaled slowly. "Georgia, when did you start to fall for me?"
Georgia was baffled. ’Why is he suddenly asking this?’
When had she started to fall for him? She couldn’t remember.
She only knew that by the time she realized she had feelings for him, she was already in too deep.
She changed the subject. "You promised me you wouldn’t smoke!"
She looked up, her gaze faintly accusatory as she tried to read his mind.
Most couples were like this; they’d always kiss and make up.
Besides, Georgia was good-tempered and Elliot doted on her. Their arguments would only make their bond stronger.
Georgia’s lip hurt a little. Elliot had bitten it hard enough to draw blood, and it stung whenever she moved her mouth.
Because of this, her appetite was much smaller. After two bites, she put down her chopsticks, not wanting to eat anymore.
Elliot was already piling food onto her plate. "You have to finish all of this!"
Elliot’s face was stern, his expression leaving no room for negotiation.
With a pained expression, Georgia shot him an even more mournful look before lowering her head and silently picking at the food in her bowl.
After half an hour of eating and a final bowl of soup, Elliot finally let her off the hook.
「In the bedroom.」
While Elliot was showering, Selena Sheridan called, asking her to come over tomorrow.
Georgia was in a difficult position. That was Justin Sullivan’s home. If Elliot found out she was going again, his reaction definitely wouldn’t be the same as it was today.
Selena Sheridan didn’t care about her dilemma, pleading over the phone, "Georgia, just come! Besides, Justin won’t be here tomorrow!"
"He really won’t be there?"
"Yeah, I just overheard him on the phone. He said he’s going on a business trip tomorrow!"
’If he’s on a business trip, then maybe I can consider it.’
After hanging up, she heard the sound of running water from the bathroom and wondered how she should broach the subject with Elliot.
She was halfway through rehearsing her speech when the bathroom door opened. A cloud of white steam drifted out, and Elliot emerged, drying his hair.
’Would telling Elliot now kill the mood?’
’Or should I tell him tomorrow morning?’
’No, no, he’s incredibly grumpy in the morning. Hearing that I’m going to Justin’s house will only make it worse.’
’Or maybe... I could just sneak out without him knowing?’
’But what if he finds out?’
She thought of several plans, but none of them seemed viable.
’I shouldn’t have agreed.’
While Georgia was lost in thought, Elliot had already walked up to her.
"What are you thinking about?"
Her chin was lifted, and her gaze was suddenly met with his.
’Might as well just be honest.’
"Um, I saw Selena at Justin Sullivan’s house today!" Georgia twisted the hem of her pajamas. "And Selena asked me to go over again tomorrow."
"Mm."
Elliot leaned down, swept Georgia into his arms, and placed her on the bed. As he pressed his body onto hers, he casually switched off the light.
Georgia was confused. ’Mm? What does that mean?’
’Did he agree or not?’
Immediately after, a pair of large, searing hands, still damp with water, stripped off her pajamas and caressed her softness.
The next day, Georgia felt the man beside her getting up. Her eyes flew open, and she grabbed Elliot’s wrist.
"What, you want more?"
Georgia blushed. ’That’s not what I want!’
"About Selena asking me to go over today... did you agree or not?"
’Just give me a straight answer! That single "Mm" could mean so many things.’
Elliot toyed with a strand of her long hair. "Go ahead."
Georgia blinked, hardly believing those words had come from his mouth.
She asked in astonishment, "Aren’t you jealous?"
"Is your husband that petty?" Elliot’s smile grew even more gentle.
"..." ’Is he generous?’
’He was still holding a grudge over the whole Zane Lennox proposal thing.’
This Elliot was different from the Elliot Georgia had known before, because he hadn’t forbidden her from going.
Georgia went into the bathroom. As she brushed her teeth, countless doubts floated through her mind.
’How did he become so magnanimous overnight?’
A few minutes later, Georgia rushed out of the bathroom.
She glared furiously at the man enjoying his breakfast elegantly in the dining room.
She said huffily, "Elliot, what did you do to me!"
Elliot calmly raised his eyes and glanced at her. "What’s wrong?"
Georgia was about to explode with anger. ’He has the nerve to ask me what’s wrong!’
When she looked in the mirror just now, she’d nearly scared herself.
Leaving his marks in places hidden by her clothes was one thing, but how was she supposed to cover up the ones on her neck?
"You did this on purpose!"
Georgia accused him angrily, and Elliot didn’t deny it.
He had diligently left those marks last night. If she really went to Justin Sullivan’s, it would be a perfect opportunity for Justin to see them and finally give up all hope.
’And he said he wasn’t a petty person! Sneakily leaving so many obvious marks on her.’
She stomped her foot in anger, turned around, and went back into the room. She opened the closet and stared at the clothes inside.
She glanced at the brilliant sun outside. ’On such a hot day, am I supposed to go out all bundled up?!’
’He said he wasn’t angry... A leopard really can’t change its spots!’
Georgia tried on several outfits, picking and choosing, but none of them would do!
It wasn’t until Selena Sheridan called to ask if she had left yet that she frantically grabbed a silk scarf and tied it around her neck.
「Inside Justin Sullivan’s apartment.」
Selena Sheridan was still on an IV drip.
Justin Sullivan was the one who opened the door.
Georgia froze for a few seconds. ’Didn’t she say he was on a business trip?!’
"You’re here!" Justin Sullivan smiled gently.
Georgia managed a brittle laugh. "Hello, Uncle."
After her greeting, Georgia entered the room.
She pulled up a chair and sat down by the bed. "Didn’t you say he was on a business trip?"
"I don’t know! I definitely heard him tell someone that," Selena Sheridan replied.
The two of them fell silent.
Selena wouldn’t lie to her, which meant it had to be Justin Sullivan.
He must have intentionally made that phone call in front of Selena and lied.
Selena Sheridan secretly glanced at Georgia, a bitter taste in her mouth.
’Even after all this time, the person Justin Sullivan loves is still Georgia Thorne.’
Justin Sullivan had stayed home all day just for a chance to spend time with Georgia.
Unfortunately, this only made Georgia angrier.
’He was never such a scheming person before.’
Georgia tried her best to avoid him, but it was impossible to avoid him completely. There were bound to be some interactions.
Like now, for instance.
After pouring a glass of water, Georgia turned around to see Justin Sullivan standing in the kitchen doorway.
Averting her gaze from his intense eyes, Georgia held the glass and tried to walk past him.
The doorway was only so wide. He was blocking it, leaving only a tiny gap.
Even with her slender frame, she would inevitably brush against him as she passed.
Georgia furrowed her brow. "Excuse me, please move."
Justin Sullivan refused to move, looking down at Georgia’s fair face.
"Nina!"
Hearing him call her by that name made Georgia uncomfortable.
She had a good idea of what he was about to say.
’I really don’t know how the refined and handsome man from the past turned into this cunning, shameless person.’
’Who was the one who had really changed?’
Georgia took a step back. "Justin Sullivan, you’re being really detestable right now!"
Justin Sullivan gave a bitter smile. "Being detestable is better than being forgotten by you, isn’t it?"
Georgia was no longer the Georgia of the past. She held no lingering affection for him.
In her heart, she had already wiped their past completely clean.
He was the only one left, stuck in his memories, unable to break free.
Georgia was speechless, wondering how he had come up with such twisted logic.
"Nina, I’m getting engaged," Justin Sullivan said, his tone returning to normal.
But the light shining in his eyes seemed to be waiting for her to say something.
Georgia looked into his eyes and parted her lips, but she couldn’t say a thing.
Hearing that Justin Sullivan was getting engaged, her first reaction was, ’What about Selena?!’
But then she remembered they had already broken up and calmly said, "Congratulations."
No matter who he was going to be with, she would respectfully offer her congratulations.
Georgia lowered her head and started to walk forward.
Justin Sullivan couldn’t bear to let her go just like that. He subconsciously reached out to grab her, but accidentally tore off the silk scarf from her neck.
On her fair skin, a profusion of bright red hickeys bloomed like a field of seductive flowers.
The sight was a dagger to his eyes, which began to burn.
Not long after, Justin Sullivan left the apartment.
The television was on, but Georgia was lost in her own thoughts, while Selena Sheridan’s attention was focused entirely on her.
’Georgia was out there for so long. Did she say something to Justin?’
’They used to have feelings for each other. If it weren’t for me, they would have definitely gotten back together.’
The thought left a bitter taste in Selena Sheridan’s mouth. On one hand, she was jealous of Georgia; on the other, she told herself she shouldn’t be.
Georgia was the only true best friend she had.
As Selena thought this, her gaze fell on Georgia’s hand.
Looking closely, this time she saw it clearly.
She wasn’t drunk, her eyes weren’t playing tricks on her, and she certainly wasn’t hallucinating.
There was indeed a ring on Georgia’s ring finger.
The ring finger of her left hand... ’Isn’t that for a wedding ring?!’
’Georgia... who did she marry?’
’How come there was no news about it at all?’
While living at Mrs. Sheridan’s house, she had been bored and had gone through all the past news stories one by one.
She wanted to see what major events had happened while she was away from Portmire, and it turned out she had really missed some earth-shattering news.
Her best friend, Georgia Thorne, had been in the papers, and it wasn’t good news.
At a highly anticipated wedding, the bride waited from morning till night, but the groom never showed up at all.
She had become a laughingstock for everyone.
During that time, she had been traveling and rarely spoke with Georgia on the phone. And Georgia hadn’t said a single word about it.
