Chapter 369: Suspecting Maya Marshall
Theodore Lancaster was only speculating; he had no concrete evidence. But his words struck the old matriarch like a clap of thunder, jolting her alert.
"It’s not impossible. Now that you mention it, a suspicious person has popped into my head."
"Who?" Theodore Lancaster asked, lowering his voice.
"Maya Marshall."
"..."
The old matriarch knew all too well about Maya Marshall’s obsession with Adrian Lancaster and her animosity toward Wren Sutton.
Back when the Marshall Family was still in Aston, Maya Marshall had repeatedly caused trouble for Wren Sutton, trying to replace her and become the new Mrs. Lancaster.
"Other than her, I can’t think of anyone else who despises Wren Sutton so much that they’d want to destroy her."
A frosty expression settled over Theodore Lancaster’s face, but he didn’t directly refute it.
’If Maya Marshall really is behind this, then that woman is truly terrifying... and detestable.’
"Mom, it’s just a guess. I don’t have any evidence."
"Having no evidence is fine. We don’t fight battles we aren’t prepared for." The old matriarch looked up at her son, her tone firm and thorough.
"For this matter, we must have a two-pronged approach. We can’t afford to be the least bit careless."
Theodore Lancaster nodded, listening intently as he waited for his mother’s instructions.
"On one hand, focus all our energy on the truck driver. He’s the most direct breakthrough."
"Investigate everything thoroughly—his driving route, the cause of the accident, whether someone was pulling the strings, his financial transactions. Don’t let a single detail slip by."
"Since he’s dead, investigate his family, especially his spouse. It’s impossible that there isn’t a single clue."
The old matriarch paused, her fingertips tapping lightly on the armrest of the sofa as she strategized.
"On the other hand, secretly investigate the Marshall Family. Focus on Maya Marshall, and don’t do anything to tip her off."
"Her past animosity toward Wren and obsession with Adrian were already a hidden danger. If your guess is correct, then Maya Marshall is the prime suspect."
"However, we don’t convict people based on speculation. Have someone secretly look into Maya Marshall’s recent movements, the people she’s been in contact with, and any unusual financial activity. Quietly gather all the evidence. Once we have confirmation, we’ll make our move."
The old matriarch’s thinking was comprehensive; she would neither wrong the innocent nor let a single suspicious person go.
"Push forward on both fronts simultaneously. They won’t interfere with each other."
Theodore Lancaster nodded, silently committing his mother’s entire strategy to memory.
"Mom, your plan is thorough. I’ll go make the arrangements right away."
"Whether it’s the truck driver’s family or Maya Marshall, I’ll have people watch them closely, around the clock."
The old matriarch nodded, then let out a heavy sigh, a lingering worry etched on her face.
"It’s just... Adrian..." Her tone shifted, now filled with heartache. "He’s so badly injured, still lying in the intensive care unit. My heart... it just aches."
Theodore Lancaster quickly moved to sit beside his mother and comfort her.
"Mom, your grandson is a fighter. He made it back from the brink of death. He’ll wake up soon, and when he does, I’ll take you to the hospital to see him."
The old matriarch wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes.
"You’re right. My grandson is a fighter. I’ll wait at home for the good news of him waking up."
With that, the old woman stood up and walked to the window by herself, refusing anyone’s help.
"If we find concrete proof this time that Maya Marshall was the one who orchestrated the car crash, you know what to do. You must... eliminate... the problem... permanently."
Her voice wasn’t loud, but it carried an undeniable, absolute finality.
Theodore Lancaster watched his mother’s aged yet still-erect back, a heavy weight settling in his heart.
"Mom, don’t worry. As long as the evidence proves it was Maya Marshall, I won’t show her the slightest bit of mercy."
The old matriarch grunted in acknowledgment and gave a final instruction, "Handle this discreetly. Especially the investigation into Maya Marshall. Not a single whisper can get out, lest she gets desperate and does something even more vicious."
"Understood."
The old matriarch waved her hand. "Go on, go back to your room and rest. This can’t be rushed. Your health is your most important asset. Get some rest so you can investigate with a clear head."
