Chapter 314: Happiness Overflowing from the Heart
The air was filled with a lazy, intimate atmosphere, like honey dissolving in warm water. With just a gentle stir, the sweetness would overflow.
The warm, cozy yellow light spilled over the two of them, making everything seem exceptionally tender. Even their breathing grew soft and lingering.
Adrian Lancaster’s gaze was scorching hot and full of love. Wren Sutton felt flustered under his stare, turning her face away and feigning composure.
He looked at her reddened earlobes and couldn’t help but let out a low chuckle. His voice was husky from just waking up—magnetic and gentle, his eyes unable to hide his doting affection.
"Honey, I’m telling the truth. You’re really cute."
Wren Sutton was too embarrassed to listen anymore and cut him off. "Okay, stop. We’re not talking about this anymore."
"Alright, alright, I’ll stop." Adrian Lancaster knew to quit while he was ahead, not daring to push his luck for fear of truly making Wren Sutton angry.
Just as he was about to change the subject, there was a knock on the door, immediately followed by a servant’s voice.
"Young Master, Young Madam, dinner is ready."
"Come in."
The door was pushed open gently, and a servant walked in carrying a silver tray.
On the tray were a few lightly stir-fried seasonal vegetables, a bowl of congee simmered until milky white, and several delicate appetizers.
The servant meticulously arranged the tableware, brought a warm, damp towel for Adrian Lancaster to wipe his hands with, and then respectfully and discreetly exited the room.
The bedroom returned to silence.
Adrian Lancaster’s gaze fell back on Wren Sutton, full of reluctance to see her go.
"Honey, I can’t risk getting you sick. You should go eat in the dining room."
"After you eat, play with Owen and Nina for a while, then get some rest. Don’t worry about me."
He spoke with sincerity, his thoughts entirely on his wife and children.
A warmth enveloped Wren Sutton’s heart, and she didn’t argue.
"You get some rest early after you eat, too."
With that, she got up and walked out. Just as she reached the door, she suddenly remembered something important and turned back around.
"Oh, right," Wren Sutton reminded him softly. "Remember to take your medicine before you sleep, and check your temperature again."
Adrian Lancaster nodded, the smile in his eyes growing deeper and warmer. "Roger that. Whatever my honey says."
「 」
The dining room was quiet and cozy, with the crystal chandelier casting a soft, warm light.
Wren Sutton ate her meal at a leisurely pace. Having slept for a few hours, she was noticeably less tired than she had been during the day.
After she finished eating, the servants brought Owen and Nina out of their room.
Nina seemed to sense her mother’s presence. Her little fists, which had been clenched quietly, started waving about. Her chubby little hands grasped at the air, and not to be outdone, her little legs kicked vigorously inside her swaddle. She let out a series of soft, sweet coos—"GOO, GOO"—her sounds filled with longing.
Owen was even more eager than his sister. His little head wobbled from side to side, his big, dark eyes searching everywhere. When his gaze locked onto Wren Sutton, he let out a loud "AH! AH!" that was even louder than his sister’s, as if he were calling out, "Mama! Mama!"
Wren Sutton’s heart melted in an instant. She couldn’t wait to get up and hurry over to them, her face beaming with a happy smile, her eyes curving into two gentle crescents.
"Mama’s here."
She first took Nina from a servant’s arms.
Nina’s little hand immediately grabbed the front of her shirt, and she nuzzled her head into the crook of Wren’s neck like an adorable little kitten.
"You’re such a good girl, Nina. Let Mama give you a kiss."
Wren Sutton leaned down and planted a gentle kiss on her daughter’s pink little cheek, making the baby giggle and kick her little feet happily.
After holding her daughter, she held her son.
Owen was a sturdy little bundle, feeling heavy in her arms. Wren Sutton gently pinched his soft little cheek and gave him a kiss on the forehead.
"Owen’s a good boy, too. Mama will give you a kiss, too."
Held in his mother’s arms, Owen clung tightly to her shoulder, refusing to let go, cooing and gurgling affectionately.
"How about Mama plays some games with you two?"
Wren Sutton sat down on the living room sofa, holding both children.
It was as if the two little ones understood. They had been fussing a moment ago but instantly quieted down.
They both stared at their mother without blinking, their big, dark eyes as clear as spring water.
Then, a crisp, pleasant laugh—GIGGLE GIGGLE—erupted from them, like silver bells filling every corner of the living room.
Wren Sutton first picked up a soft rattle from the toy basket nearby.
It was a small bell wrapped in colorful plush cloth. A gentle shake produced a crisp, pleasant "JINGLE JINGLE" sound.
She slowly waved the rattle in front of the children’s eyes. Specks of red, blue, and yellow light danced before them.
"Owen, look here."
Wren Sutton guided him softly as she shook the rattle.
Owen’s gaze was captured by the sound of the bell. His little head turned to follow the rattle’s direction as he tried his best to grab the magical little thing.
After playing with the rattle for a while, Wren Sutton picked up a pair of soft little socks and gently held Nina’s chubby little foot.
"Nina, kick your legs. One, two, one."
As she spoke, she gently helped her daughter bend and stretch her little leg.
Nina seemed to get the new game. She kicked her little foot forward with all her might, landing right on the back of Wren Sutton’s hand. The soft touch made Wren laugh out loud.
After a little while, Wren Sutton took out several brightly colored cloth books and patiently began teaching the children to recognize the pictures.
"Babies, this is a watermelon. A big, round, sweet watermelon."
"This is a grape. My babies’ eyes are like grapes—so dark and bright, so pretty."
"This is a tomato. A sour, round tomato. It’s a vegetable and also a fruit, full of vitamin C. Eating more is good for you!"
Wren Sutton’s voice was gentle and rhythmic, weaving together with the children’s occasional coos and babbles. A feeling of happiness overflowed from her heart.
Time flowed by slowly, and the night grew deeper.
Owen and Nina were tired from playing, so the servants carried them back to the nursery to rest.
The two little ones were so well-behaved. They drank their formula and fell quietly asleep.
Wren Sutton gave each of her children a kiss on the cheek.
"Good night, my babies. Mama loves you."
Afterwards, she returned to the master bedroom, washed up, and prepared to go to bed.
Just then, Wren Sutton thought of Adrian Lancaster in the adjacent guest room. ’I wonder if he checked his temperature.’
She hesitated for a moment, then headed out of the room.
Wren Sutton gently pushed open the door to the guest room. She didn’t turn on the light, using the moonlight filtering in through the window to slowly walk to the bedside.
The moment she pushed the door open, Adrian Lancaster, who had been drowsing fitfully, instantly became wide awake.
