Seeing Crime Scenes in My Sleep

"You decided to kill He Ming because you found out Kong Zhen was pregnant."

Zhou Tiancheng looked at Qin Hao with a serious, calm expression, turning the computer to show him the ultrasound report.

Qin Hao’s fidgeting hands froze. He looked up at the ultrasound report, his expression changing instantly. His hands clenched into fists, and his eyes fixed on the image with a venomous glare.

He looked up with a sinister smile. "What? The little bastard is still alive?"

’After what he did to Kong Zhen, he couldn’t believe the little bastard was still alive. It sure was lucky.’

The officer beside him slammed the table. "Qin Hao, this is a police station!"

Qin Hao leaned back nonchalantly and scoffed at Zhou Tiancheng. "I admit, you guys are pretty good."

"But you still got one thing wrong in your analysis."

Qin Hao gritted his teeth in resentment. "If it weren’t for Kong Zhen, He Ming and I would have been together!"

"After graduating from high school, we promised to get into the same university. We were going to be together forever, but he was the one who had a change of heart."

"He told me he couldn’t accept it, that his parents couldn’t accept it. Bullshit! It was all fucking bullshit! He just didn’t love me enough."

"The worst part is that he slept with Kong Zhen and even had a child with her! He became dirty, so he deserved to die!"

The more Qin Hao spoke, the more agitated he became. Everything had been fine during their freshman year of college, but right after graduation, He Ming told him he wanted to break up.

He caused a scene at his house and was met with disdainful looks. Afterward, everyone around them found out, so he had no choice but to go abroad.

But he never expected that not long after, He Ming would get together with Kong Zhen. They even got married and had a child.

He Ming was the one who broke his promise and betrayed their love first.

"I gave him my everything. What right did he have to just break up with me whenever he wanted?"

"If he wanted a child, we could have adopted. I was even willing to get gender reassignment surgery for him! Why did he have to do this to me?"

"He deserved to die! That’s why I dug out his heart. I just wanted to see if it was black or not."

Veins bulged on Qin Hao’s forehead, his face contorted into a savage snarl as he stared at the ultrasound report.

’He had been too soft. He should have just gouged that thing out alive, just like he did with He Ming.’

Qin Hao’s eyes were red-rimmed. He slumped back in his chair, defeated, his mind filled with nostalgic memories of the innocent young man from his past.

Zhou Tiancheng and the officer beside him exchanged a look, then stood up and left to confer.

After Lu Xingye found out about the development, he told Jiang Li right away.

After listening, Jiang Li nodded. "Is Kong Zhen’s baby still alive?"

Lu Xingye shook his head. "No. It was already a miracle that the mother survived."

Jiang Li didn’t ask any more questions. As long as Kong Zhen was okay, that was what mattered.

「In a corner of D City.」 Miao Jiangling walked down the street, her hair streaked with white. She looked as if she had aged a great deal.

’Miao Anji had killed her Life Gu. Her own days were numbered, yet somehow, Miao Anji hadn’t died.’

"Where’d this old hag come from? Get the hell out of my way! Don’t block my path!"

A drunken man pointed at Miao Jiangling and cursed.

Miao Jiangling looked at the drunk man with a gloomy expression, which then broke into peals of laughter.

’Oh, Miao Anji, Miao Anji... everything you know, this old woman taught you.’

As the man continued to curse, he suddenly saw a beautiful woman with a graceful figure appear before him, giving him a seductive look.

"Well now, beautiful. All alone? That’s not safe. How about your big bro takes you home?"

"Okay~"

「The next day.」 Just as Zhou Tiancheng and his team finished organizing Qin Hao’s case file for submission, someone burst in in a hurry.

"Officer, it’s bad, it’s bad! Someone’s dead! There’s a dead person in the ditch!"

The local police hurried to the scene to investigate. A police cordon was quickly set up around the area.

The man who first discovered the body was brought in for routine questioning.

"At five in the morning, I was getting ready to sell my grilled rice cakes. That’s my usual spot for my stall. I had just parked my tricycle when I saw something in the ditch. I went closer to look and saw it was a dead body."

"Officer, that’s all I know. This has nothing to do with me."

"Captain, this was found at the crime scene. It’s a silver pendant that fell off something. I’ve seen them before at a photo studio; it looks a lot like the ones on Miao Clan clothing."

Zhou Tiancheng, who had been in the middle of speaking, paused. "Shit. Can I see it?"

Zhou Tiancheng took it and glanced at it, his brow furrowing deeper. ’This looks a lot like the accessories Xiao Ji wears.’

Zhou Tiancheng handed the item back to him and then headed to the hospital.

In the hospital, Miao Anji was sitting by Jiang Li’s bed in a hospital gown, watching over her. From a distance, he looked like a pitiful and dependent younger brother.

Zhou Tiancheng walked in and greeted him. "Xiao Ji."

Miao Anji glanced at Zhou Tiancheng and nodded, then turned back to gaze at the sleeping Jiang Li. He felt a little happy seeing that the bite mark on her arm had faded significantly.

"Xiao Ji, did you go out last night?" Zhou Tiancheng asked, observing Miao Anji’s movements and expression.

Miao Anji shook his head and looked back at him, confused. "No. What’s wrong?"

"Ah, it’s nothing." Zhou Tiancheng turned and left. He found someone at the hospital to check the previous night’s security footage, which confirmed that Miao Anji had indeed not left the hospital.

Zhou Tiancheng breathed a sigh of relief. At least Miao Anji had an alibi.

"Captain Zhou, what’s wrong?" Lu Xingye asked, seeing Zhou Tiancheng looking at the security footage from outside Jiang Li’s room.

"Someone died in D City last night. The officers found a piece of silver jewelry at the scene. I was a little worried, so I came to check."

"Isn’t that bullshit? I was in the room last night too. Jiang Li was injured, and Miao Anji was so worried he probably held it in when he had to go to the bathroom. How could he possibly go out and kill someone?"

"Besides, he’s not that kind of person."

Lu Xingye explained the previous night’s situation to Zhou Tiancheng.

Zhou Tiancheng cleaned out his ear. "Don’t get so worked up. This isn’t B City, after all. I just came to check so I could put my mind at ease."

’They trusted Miao Anji because they knew him well and saw him all the time, but the locals here would surely see things differently.’

Lu Xingye nodded and started walking toward the hospital room.

As soon as he reached the hallway, he saw several police officers blocking the doorway to Jiang Li’s room, surrounded by a crowd of onlookers.

Lu Xingye’s heart skipped a beat, and he hurried over.

"What are you doing? Let go of me!" Miao Anji struggled irritably. The officers’ grips were strong, and their hands were hurting his arms. He was getting really annoyed.

Jiang Li was stunned as she watched the police officers enter, accuse Miao Anji of murder, and immediately move to handcuff him. She quickly said:

"Officers, there must be some misunderstanding. How could my little brother possibly kill someone?"

The officer gave her an impartial look. "An eyewitness saw him near the crime scene. Save it for the station!"

Another officer searched the room and, upon seeing the Miao Clan clothing in the closet, immediately bagged it and barked,

"We have a witness and physical evidence. What else is there to argue about? Take him away!"

Seeing Jiang Li about to get out of bed, Miao Anji instantly stopped struggling. He stopped her from getting up. "Sister, it’s okay. They just want to ask some questions, right? I’ll go with them. Don’t move."
