Chapter 93: Pursuing the Wanted Criminal
Yu Huannian heard the doorbell ring and got up to open it. The moment the door opened, a figure suddenly threw themselves into his arms.
"Yu Huannian, you bastard!"
Hearing the familiar voice, Yu Huannian froze. He let her hold him, but his gaze fell on Ning Sinian standing to the side, and only then did he push her away.
Jiang Li and Miao Anji heard the commotion and came over.
Wu Ming, who was still enjoying the show, brightened up when he saw Jiang Li. He squeezed in and grabbed her arm. "Jiang Li, my master doesn’t want me anymore, and I have nowhere to go. Can you take me in? I can pay rent! And for food!"
Thinking of the food Yu Huannian made, Wu Ming’s mouth watered and he swallowed. ’Yu Huannian’s cooking is seriously good.’
"Sure, we still have rooms," Jiang Li said with a smile. ’Good thing I bought a two-story house; there are plenty of rooms. It’s nice to have more people around. It makes the place livelier.’
Seeing Ning Rou lunge at him again, Yu Huannian didn’t know what to do for a moment. He instinctively looked toward Jiang Li.
"Forensic Doctor Ning, Little Rou, come in and have a seat first."
Ning Sinian walked in carrying a gift and placed it on the table. "Jiang Li, thank you for everything regarding Little Rou’s situation."
"Don’t mention it, Forensic Doctor Ning."
As Jiang Li spoke, she looked at Ning Rou and Yu Huannian.
Yu Huannian pressed Ning Rou down onto the sofa to sit. With a taut expression, he looked at her. "Little Rou, it’s impossible between us. You should live a good life with your brother."
When Ning Sinian heard Yu Huannian say this, he breathed a sigh of relief and couldn’t help but give him a few more glances.
"Why? We were so good together in Zhaozi Village. How did everything change the moment we left?"
Ning Rou couldn’t help but sob as she looked at Yu Huannian. They had promised to be together after they got out.
"Ning Rou, if it hadn’t been you back then, if it had been someone else, my mother and I would have saved them too. So you don’t need to feel burdened. You have a long future ahead of you."
"You should look forward."
Yu Huannian’s hands, hidden at his sides, clenched into fists. ’I used to have fantasies too, but they’re not realistic. If it weren’t for Jiang Li, I wouldn’t even have a home right now. The word ’responsibility’ is too heavy. I don’t have the ability to bear it right now. I don’t want to hold her back.’
"Yu Huannian! You’re lying!"
Ning Rou choked back a sob, her red-rimmed eyes staring intently at him. She refused to believe that Yu Huannian really had no feelings for her at all.
"Little Rou." Ning Sinian gave his sister a helpless look.
Ning Rou was so emotional she started to feel faint. Jiang Li got up to support her. "Little Rou, Xiao Nian is only saying this for both of your sakes."
Yu Huannian looked at the heartbroken Ning Rou, his arms tense, and lowered his head without saying a word.
"This isn’t for my own good. It shouldn’t be like this..."
Ning Sinian stood up and steadied her. "Little Rou, you two are still too young. You have to think about the future."
Ning Rou looked at them in a daze. ’Why doesn’t any of them approve? The things they’re talking about aren’t problems. I can grow with Yu Huannian. I just don’t want to... I don’t want to leave him.’
Ning Rou looked at Yu Huannian on the sofa. "Yu Huannian, so you think the same way?"
Only then did Yu Huannian raise his head to look at her. "Yeah."
Ning Rou laughed through her tears. "Fine. Don’t you regret this!"
Ning Rou shook off the two of them and stormed outside. Ning Sinian hurriedly chased after her.
Yu Huannian pressed his lips together, his gaze fixed on Ning Rou’s direction, full of tension and worry.
"It’s okay, it’s okay. If you’re meant to be, you’ll meet again." Wu Ming patted Yu Huannian consolingly. ’Maybe once Ning Rou calms down, she’ll come to her senses. If the feelings are real, fate will bring them together when the time is right. If they’re fated to meet but not to be together, then it’s best to just look forward.’
"Yeah."
Yu Huannian dodged Wu Ming’s hand and asked Jiang Li cautiously, "Is it possible to find a job?"
He had been looking at information online for the past few days and only just realized that finding a job wasn’t easy. A lot of people were unemployed and staying at home, which made him even more panicked.
Back in Zhaozi Village, he could at least hunt. He was afraid that after leaving, he’d become completely useless.
"Yes, you can. Don’t worry." Jiang Li thought for a moment, then suddenly remembered the bounty board from before.
"Look, isn’t this money right here?" Jiang Li pointed at the updated list.
Yu Huannian scratched his head. "How do we find them?"
"It’s okay, take it slow. We have Wu Ming and Xiao Ji. They’re amazing at tracking people."
Seeing Jiang Li mention him, Miao Anji nodded eagerly.
Jiang Li had them sit down and started right from the top of the list. "Alright, Wu Ming, let’s begin!"
"Oh, oh, oh!" Wu Ming’s brain hadn’t quite caught up, but he was already nodding his head.
Looking at the birth date and time and the other information on the list, he took a deep breath, then clasped his hands together and bowed to Jiang Li.
Jiang Li was completely confused. ’What’s he doing?’
CLANG!
The Copper Coin spun a few times on the table before coming to a stop.
"Yes!" Wu Ming cheered excitedly, then began to calculate. "At a KTV! A really messy KTV."
Jiang Li nodded and took out her phone to start searching. ’It would be great if Lu Xingye were here; he’s more familiar with the area.’
The group started searching for information on KTVs.
Jiang Li’s hand paused. "If it’s a ’messy’ KTV, we probably won’t find it with a normal search."
"Does the place stink?" Miao Anji asked Wu Ming, propping his chin on his hand.
"It stinks."
"Then let me, let me!" Miao Anji started rummaging through his back basket, picking out a few jars.
Yu Huannian glanced over expressionlessly, while Wu Ming and Jiang Li stared curiously at the jars and pots on the table.
They had never touched Miao Anji’s things, nor did they dare to.
"Sister, pick one you like."
"Huh?" Jiang Li was suddenly put on the spot and froze. ’Me? I have to choose?’
Miao Anji smiled and nodded at her.
Jiang Li looked at the jars in front of her and, without thinking, chose the red one. ’It’s my zodiac birth year, so red is fitting.’
"Sister has great taste." Miao Anji smiled at Jiang Li, opened the jar, and an entirely pitch-black scorpion crawled out.
Wu Ming covered his mouth in shock. ’Such a strong aura of death!’
The scorpion crawled onto Miao Anji’s hand and nuzzled his knuckles ingratiatingly. Little Qing sensed the danger, quickly slithered onto Jiang Li’s hand, and flicked its tongue at the scorpion, as if mocking it for not understanding the situation.
Jiang Li looked at the emerald-green snake on her hand and stroked its little head. ’It feels pretty strange.’
Miao Anji shot it a displeased look. Little Qing sensed the danger, quickly got off Jiang Li, and scurried into Miao Anji’s back basket, not daring to come out.
"Sister, let’s go." Miao Anji stood up to lead the way.
"Aren’t you going to wear your basket?"
Jiang Li pointed at the small basket on the floor. Ever since she’d known him, he’d carried it everywhere.
Miao Anji glanced at it. The insects in the jars were trembling with fear.
"Not wearing it." ’A bunch of disobedient things.’
"Then let’s go."
The group followed Wu Ming to the general location. Then, Miao Anji had the scorpion point the way. The scorpion’s tail instantly pointed them in the right direction.
"This way, Sister."
The moment Miao Anji reached the alley entrance, a disgusted look appeared on his face. ’This place really stinks. It’s even worse than the mass graves back home.’
Jiang Li scanned the surrounding signs.
"There!" Miao Anji pointed at a pitch-black area. ’There’s something there. Something... very delicious.’
