Section Seven: Smiles Over the Wall

"I'm home."

When I walked into the house from the store side, Sarah was talking to the customer.

"Oh, you're home, Iris"

The customer looked back and turned to his face, engraved with a giggling jiva so deep that the word "likeable" came firmly to him.

"That, Grandpa? What's wrong?"

What I wanted there was Mr. Ferdinand, the wizard's grandfather, who lived next to the old Calvafone bookstore and was also my teacher.

I received an order for the book yesterday, but the boulder still hasn't received the product. My grandfather must know that, but did he forget to order anything?

"Welcome back, sister. I was just talking about my grandfather and my sister."

"I came to order an extra book, and Sarah asked me to talk to her."

"Because I'm free. Your sister hasn't been around forever. Ah, Master Saluena, welcome back."

When she saw Saluena coming in after me, Sarah stood out of her chair with Gatan and bowed with a peck.

"Oh, I'm home. You had a store number, great."

"Yes. When your mother and sister are busy, Sarah is supposed to."

"Well, is it? Speaking of which, what do you do during the day? I only see my face in the morning and at night."

That's what Saluena heard as she threw new firewood into a firewood stove that was making a quiet noise in the middle of the store.

"Didn't I tell you? Your father is a scholar. I'm writing a book."

"Well, a scholar? Isn't that what Iris likes about books?"

"Come on, what do you say? Your father's a son-in-law, so maybe your mother's the one who's bleeding like a book."

This old Calvafone bookstore is mainly chopped up by your mother. Your father put together his research results in the winter, enough to turn them into books and sell them in this store.

That said, quite a few people are eagerly awaiting the book, and every year at this time or so, letters requesting orders arrive from all over the place. Grandpa here, he's one of them.

"What are you doing, by the way?"

"It's not a herb. The medicine that I'm taking now is what Frammel formulated for me."

"Your father is amazing!!"

Sarah strains her breasts with opium. I glance at you and say... and open my mouth to Grandpa.

"Grandpa, I'm looking into the Spirit now..."

"... well, with the Spirit. It's unusual for you to say that name from yourself. [M] Have you ever wanted to learn magic again?"

Grandpa looks back laughing happily. Rubbing a splendid mustache stored in his jaw.

"Ugh, I'm sorry. I don't think so. The adventurers who have escorted me so far are working for me in this city now..."

It was painful to hide things from my grandfather and sister, but I did not touch on what happened in the church and only explained that I had undertaken an investigation of the mysterious groans from the guild. And now, as a cause of this, I told him that I was guessing that the Spirit with power might be nearby.

"I see... I'm sure that's not true."

"Really?"

"Uhm, because being in that same number of places is by nature inconceivable first"

Grandpa said so and put up one finger. Then, Bo, a fireball appeared at his fingertips.

"Wow, Grandpa is awesome"

"Whoops, let's do that. It's not normal to start a fire in a place where there's nothing. So now I said Sarah is amazing."

Boom, with every extra finger you put up, the fireballs increase.

"Then why did you let the fire start here? Do you understand?"

"That must be because your old body is a wizard"

"Then let's change the question. Why can a wizard start a fire?"

"... it's..."

Saluena mouths off. Wizards can use magic. That's why he's a wizard. But when asked why a wizard can use magic, how many people will be able to answer that?

"Right. Is that with you?"

"Looks like Iris understood. Shall we go with the answers?"

"Because my grandfather commands the Spirit who is here. The Spirit is also a collection of magic, or crystals. So if Grandpa's magic is high, the Spirit will follow it naturally."

"You remember very well, Iris. Exactly."

Grandpa nodded contentedly, throwing a flame into the firewood stove. Then the fire intensified for a moment and the room was brightened at dusk.

"... that your old body is no different from the Spirit by nature?"

"Whoa, you might say that for sure. By using the magic that resides in him, the Wizard will put the Spirit on his side and exercise his power."

"Does Grandpa have any idea about the spirits who use Ent? And if the same thing happened in this city before, and you know something about it, I'd like you to tell me."

"Right...... Because I am not an elementary manipulator of the Spirit itself among wizards. I can't be certain because I can't feel its existence..."

Grandpa said so foreshadowing and deepening the wrinkles between his brows.

"Normally, it would be wind, dirt, or a wooden fairy. This is land with constant winds blowing through the mountains, with mountains holding minerals. And let the green leaves grow even in winter, and when you see them lined up, narrow them down to their three by themselves when it comes to powerful spirits. But like I said earlier, if you think normally... then. I assure you there is no other possibility of the Spirit."

Spirit of the Wind, Silf. Soil Spirit, Gnome. Wood Spirit Dry Ard. Would the most likely of these be dryards?

"Yeah, I know. I'll leave the other possibilities in my head."

"Um, that's fine. The world is full of wonders anyway. Remember, even what you see can betray you."

Grandpa says that word like a cliche from when I was little. And many other things, like how I feel about being a wizard, I was taught by this grandfather. When I was relative to the dragon, it was only if my grandfather taught me how to understand the nature of the Book of Magic.

"And probably the last thing I want to hear about the latter... 20 years since I've been in this city, I haven't had a similar case. At least, as far as I know, I don't even hear rumors. Unless it was before that."

"Oh well... thanks, Grandpa"

I'm sorry I couldn't help you.

"Ugh, that's not true. I knew the Spirit was suspicious, but it helped."

To be honest with you, my grandfather looks at me jizzily.

"What? Grandpa."

"No, I think it's changed a lot in the last six months."

"Oh, really?"

Sure, Sarah told me you got a little fat, but I guess that's not what Grandpa's saying. The atmosphere, maybe that's what it is.

"Well, there's been a lot going on."

"Whoa, well. Asking my daughters about their age is not wild. Then I'm leaving. If you want to learn magic again, you can always come to me, but yes."

"haha...... yeah thanks"

Even though you say that from your grandfather, I have a past that I gave up once, and it's hard to snort honestly.

(Magic training......? Again...... I guess I should ask. If I can use magic properly, I can protect myself...)

I waved with a bitter laugh and dropped off my grandfather. Then just then, I heard your mother's voice from behind the store.

"Ah, ha-ha."

Apparently, we've got dinner plans.

While we had dinner, my consciousness was somewhere far away. Delicious mother's dishes don't get her throat through much today either.

"What's the matter, Iris? You don't have an appetite."

"Are you ill?"

"Oh, um, no. Just thinking, sorry."

Today in a bird soup seasoned with salt, sweet bread mixed with carrots. It's a vegetable salad I saved there in the snow.

"Yeah, yummy"

"Yes, that's good. There's also a change. Don't hesitate to eat, Mr. Saluena."

"Never mind."

At first I was surprised at the fact that I was a knight, but as I spent time with him, I gradually broke it down. Saluena has also gotten used to life here and is now to helping her mother with her chores.

"Heh, did that happen"

Your father is listening to Sarah on Nico's face.

"Yeah. You always make me laugh at Sarah by saying something fun to Mike."

Sarah can't talk during the day either. I can talk to your father a lot and he looks happy. Seeing those two, your mother is laughing happily.

……

But I'm hiding something from the family.

To the people I love, I'm lying.

The burden was getting bigger by the day, and like a standing thorn, it was beginning to be painful.

"Speaking of which, adventurers, you haven't been here since. Mr. Tosliln said yes, but I still think I have to thank him."

"Oh, right. Shall we go to the guild next time? Or is the church better?"

"Hey, Iris. Would you please tell Mr. Tothriln and the others?"

Ticcarodecca in front of me. Orange blossoms. That's what decorates the table.

……

Now, is that okay? Will I live in this house as I have always been, with a moist heart?

"Hey, Iris?"

"Iris, my mother, you're the one who's calling."

"Oh, no. I can't believe I'm your mother, Mr. Saluena, because I'm not in that pattern."

"Oh, I'm sorry. What?"

"You seem so obsessed with thinking. What kind of challenge is bothering you? Why don't you talk to me?"

The same smile you had for Sarah, your father, who also pointed it at me. For a long time, that's how your father has taken our children seriously.

"... oh yeah... Sorry, just a little more, 'cause I want to think for myself."

But to that father, I can't face him directly from the front. Build more walls with words so that lies are not seen through.

"Right. But if you don't know, do you rely on me or Poitica? Like?"

"Yeah, thanks, Dad"

I smiled over the wall to make sure I didn't break any more worries and soothe the air.

And... the next day.

I headed with Saluena to the guild to make yesterday's report everyone.

But... the Toslins didn't come home that day.
