Chapter 593: Everyone Says He’s Your Ex-Boyfriend
"Before Ding Shen died, did he tell you to find a worthy successor for that blade?"
Sun Xixi had returned.
She looked somewhat exhausted.
As soon as she got back to the convoy camp, she spotted Chen Ye sitting by the bonfire, lost in thought.
So she asked that question.
Chen Ye had a cigarette dangling from his lips, seemingly pondering something. When he heard Sun Xixi's question, he smirked and replied, "Yeah! Ding Shen did tell me that!"
"Then you..."
Chen Ye cut her off: "I didn't listen to him!"
Sun Xixi's eyes widened in shock, then her expression shifted: "So it really was you!"
Chen Ye grinned: "What, did Jiang Rou convince you?"
Sun Xixi shook her head: "She said some things to me! That blade means a lot to her!"
"And whose side are you on now?"
Sun Xixi stared into one of Chen Ye's eyes, the corner of her mouth curling slightly, but she still said, "We're on the same convoy!"
Her gaze dropped to Chen Ye's lower back.
There, where there had only been one machete before, there were now two.
The short one was that machete.
The other, slightly longer one, sat just beneath it.
But that lower blade was wrapped in willow branches and bound with iron chains.
As if they were afraid the blade might escape.
Even though Sun Xixi hadn't seen the transformation process, her instincts as a Sword Immortal still recognized it—that new blade was the same one from before.
"That's the one?"
Though she could sense it, Sun Xixi still asked.
Chen Ye nodded: "That's the blade!"
"Keep it safe. Jiang Rou won't give up! Or better yet, rank up to Sequence 4 soon."
With that, the pink-haired girl lifted her chin and strode toward her vehicle on those long, slender legs.
Chen Ye's lips curved into an attractive arc: "Xixi, thanks!"
The pink-haired girl didn't turn around, just waved her arm: "Just cause fewer problems next time!"
Chen Ye chuckled and said nothing more.
That evening, he continued practicing the Blood Moon First Set of Broadcast Calisthenics.
He felt the Blood Moon's power surging inside him.
Every time it seemed like he was about to break through that thin barrier, something always held him back.
The crimson glow in his left hand grew brighter, the red becoming purer.
As if something was gestating within that red light.
After finishing the second round of calisthenics, Chen Ye still hadn't broken through.
Back when the pink-haired girl said she went from Sequence 3 to Sequence 4, she hadn't felt any obvious bottleneck.
Her cultivation speed wasn't the fastest, but it was definitely the most solid.
But consider this: aside from the Demon Fruit she mentioned, the pink-haired girl never took any supplementary potions.
She had no lucky encounters and no System either.
Yet with her freshly promoted Sequence 4 strength, she could hold her own against the veteran Sequence 4 Jiang Rou.
And the pink-haired girl had nothing but her sword.
Meanwhile, Jiang Rou had three Wonders.
The fact that she could fight Jiang Rou to a draw showed just how terrifying the pink-haired girl really was.
Chen Ye didn't know how others reached Sequence 4 or higher.
But he had seen with his own eyes—at least on the surface—how the pink-haired girl made it.
Step by step, one foot in front of the other. That was her.
People like her might not shine in the early stages, but in the later ones, they become truly terrifying.
From Sequence 1 to Sequence 3, she was at best a skilled fighter within the convoy.
Back at the Oasis, she only attracted a little attention.
But now?
Even across the entire base, she was among the strongest—one of the top few.
As for Chen Ye...
He was an outlier.
...
Jiang Rou dragged her exhausted body back to the convoy camp.
The moment she returned, Boss Ma eagerly greeted her.
Even Captain Yang Han flashed a somewhat fawning smile.
The Shepherd Convoy was held in high regard at the base, and all of that was thanks to Jiang Rou.
With so many Superhumans gathered together, conflicts were inevitable.
But no one had ever clashed with the Shepherd Convoy.
They all feared Demoness Jiang's fearsome reputation.
Even Zhan Lei wore a sycophantic grin.
But the smiles on their faces seemed oddly strange.
Like there was something hidden beneath them.
At first, Jiang Rou couldn't be bothered with these fools.
She wolfed down her dinner, finally feeling a little better.
Fighting that pink-haired brat consumed a massive amount of energy.
She unstrapped the long blade from her lower back and tossed it onto the table.
She kicked off her high heels and slumped into her chair like a deflated balloon.
She couldn't care less about her image.
But even like this, Jiang Rou was stunningly beautiful.
Too bad everyone ignored her looks.
Turning her head, she caught Boss Ma sneaking glances at her.
His eyes were full of curiosity, scrutiny, and gossipy intrigue.
As if sensing her gaze, Boss Ma quickly looked away, pretending to be completely nonchalant.
To cover up his spying, he even started humming some random tune under his breath.
Jiang Rou snorted coldly, ready to ignore him, but when she turned, she saw Captain Yang Han looking at her with the same expression.
The flames of gossip were practically blazing in his eyes.
Jiang Rou furrowed her brow.
Captain Yang Han flinched like he'd been burned and hastily shifted his gaze to the distant sea.
Even Zhan Lei, that sly bastard who couldn't speak, was watching her sideways.
And it wasn't just them—even the ordinary survivors kept glancing in her direction.
All eyes were on her.
"SLAP!"
Jiang Rou slammed her hand on the table, furious.
"What the hell is going on with you three?"
When Demoness Jiang lost her temper, everyone shrank back, not daring to speak. Even their glances retracted.
Jiang Rou swept her gaze over everyone who had been staring.
The ordinary people she looked at started trembling.
Finally, her eyes settled on Captain Yang Han.
"Captain Yang, what's going on? You explain!"
Yang Han quickly shook his head: "I don't know! I know nothing!"
Jiang Rou sneered: "Captain Yang, are you sure you won't talk?"
Threatened by Jiang Rou, Yang Han's face turned miserable.
Finally, he muttered: "Jiang Rou, you... are you really... involved with that Chen Ye?"
Hearing this, Jiang Rou's face darkened completely.
Yang Han shuddered and quickly defended himself: "I didn't start this! Everyone's saying it—that Chen Ye is your ex-boyfriend!"
"Tch—"
Boss Ma and Zhan Lei silently moved aside, afraid of being caught in the crossfire.
"BOOM!"
Before Yang Han could finish his last sentence, a pale, perfectly curved leg came whistling through the air.
Captain Yang Han flew like a cannonball, slamming into the Giant Ox's cart and leaving a huge dent in it.
Captain Yang Han burst into tears—pathetic, aggrieved tears.
He mumbled: "It wasn't me, they..."
Seeing Jiang Rou's furious eyes, he quickly shut his mouth, his face even more pitiful than before.
