Chapter 559: Two Monarchs, Two Paths

The Empty Hand rose from the crater, its darkness bleeding into the void like ink. Its eyes burned with fury, he was enraged, he was a being who had never known defeat and was experiencing it for the first time.

"You think you can defeat me?You are fragments! The Great Darkness will claim you all once more. You are nothing and you will return to nothing! I am the right hand of the Great Darkness itself! I have erased universes! And you.. you are mere insects crawling on the corpse of a dead world!" he screamed.

The Dragon Monarch laughed as he stood beside Arthur.

"We are nothing you say? We are the ones who will seal you away for eternity. We are the ones who have broken your little power, shattered your plans, and reduced your grand design to ash... I can do more if you please." He paused, his eyes glowing red. "I would say that makes us something than nothing."

Arthur’s spear crackled with violet lightning, "Enough talk, we don’t have time for this."

They attacked.

The battle that followed was a storm of destruction, a clash of cosmic forces, Arthur’s spear carved arcs of violet lightning through the darkness, each strike landing with incredible force. The Dragon Monarch fought beside him, his fists wrapped in flames that burned with the darkness itself, each blow sending shockwaves across the sky.

Arthur’s spear impaled the Empty Hand’s shoulder, the impact sending shockwaves. The Dragon Monarch’s fist connected with its jaw, sending it hurtling backward through the darkness, its body cracking under the sheer force of their combined assault.

The Empty Hand howled in pain. "You cannot..."

Arthur’s spear carved a trench across its chest.

"defeat me..."

The Dragon Monarch’s flames consumed its body.

"I am eternal..."

Arthur’s spear found its heart and the Empty Hand weakned, its power wavering.

"I am the one who stand above all beings of the dark!"

"Will you shut up! You are a puppet dancing on strings that have long since been cut!" The Dragon Monarch said as his eyes blazed with fire. "You have no master now. No purpose and no meaning. And when we are done with you, you will have no existence as well."

He transformed.

His form grew massive, his body shifting, reshaping, becoming something terrible. Scales of crimson and black covered his body, his eyes serpentine and menacing, his wings spreading wide to blot out the stars. The Dragon Monarch in his true form was a creature of nightmare and legend, a being of pure destruction, a true King of all Dragons.

He unleashed his breath.

A torrent of destruction Dragonfire, its power searing through the darkness, it consumed the Empty Hand, pinning it to the ground, the weight of the assault made him unable to move. The flames did not just burn, they bound the empty hand to the ground in shackles of flames.

"NO!"The Empty Hand’s voice was a scream of pure agony."Foolish fragments! You cannot.."

The Dragon Monarch’s flames intensified.

"You cannot seal me! I am eternal! I am.."

The flames consumed its words.

The Dragon Monarch transformed back, his form shrinking, his armor reforming around him.

"This will keep him put for a while." He paused, his eyes meeting Arthur’s. "But you are right. He cannot die at the moment. We can only seal him for a long while." His voice hardened."I will return for him one day. Even if you don’t."

"It is fine by me. As long as his threat is nullified." Arthur said.

"You can leave now." The Dragon Monarch said with a smile.

Arthur looked at him, spear still in hand. He felt everything at the moment, the suspicion, the curiosity, the acknowledgment. "Considering you managed to find me, I should expect that you would show up in my world as well, I assume your threat still stands."

The Dragon Monarch was amused, he said in complete innocence. "Is that what you fear, Monarch of the Dead? That I will appear in your precious world and threaten everything you hold dear?"

Arthur simply looked at him, spear still in hand.

"I know what you are thinking at the moment, the whole spear is speaking for you, but do not be foolish. You cannot kill me. You would not have survived the Empty Hand without my aid." He paused, his voice dropping to a whisper. "You are weaker. And you have many weaknesses, weaknesses you are trying to protect from everyone." The Dragon Monarch said.

"You should have done what I have done to my own Earth. Exterminate the weaknesses. Use them as a powerup." His voice hardened. "But no. You decided to adopt them." He paused, his eyes meeting Arthur’s. "You are not a human. Not anymore, you understand that much, don’t you?" His voice dropped to a whisper. "You will outlast them all."

Arthur had already made his peace with his choices a long time ago. "I understand well enough what we are." He paused, his eyes meeting the Dragon Monarch’s. "But I cannot just crush them because you see them as lesser existences. They are not weaknesses. They are my strength."

The Dragon Monarch’s smile was cold, he was also a being who had long since made peace with his own choices, totally different ones. "What a shame, really."

He turned away, "One word of advice: the Rulers will prey on you as well. They would use any moment that they see fit to destroy you. You and I are growing threats that they wish to extinguish for good, you already helped them by killing the other fools." He paused, his eyes meeting Arthur’s over his shoulder. "They were never the good guys. But you know that already, and if you don’t, well then.. you would be a bigger fool than I imagined."

He raised his hand, power gathering around it, crackling with the light of absolute destruction.

"I will be around. And when the time comes, I will get rid of them myself. With or without your aid."

Arthur was silent, his spear still in hand, his eyes fixed on the Dragon Monarch’s back.

The Dragon Monarch’s power surged forward, wrapping around the Empty Hand, sealing it in a prison of destruction and fire. Arthur raised his own hand, his power joining the Dragon Monarch’s, reinforcing the seal with shadows and death.

The Empty Hand’s voice was a scream of pure fury. "NO! THIS CANNOT BE!"

Its voice faded, its form dissolving into the darkness, its presence sealed away.

The Dragon Monarch smiled. "Be seeing ya."

He disappeared in a burst of flames, his presence fading from the battlefield.

Arthur stood alone for a moment, his spear still in hand, his eyes fixed on the place where the Empty Hand had been sealed.

Then he too disappeared in a gust of shadows.

Raven’s eyes widened as Arthur appeared beside her, his form battered, all bloodied, his power flickering. She rushed to him, her hands finding his face. "Arthur! You are hurt!"

He raised a hand, cutting her off gently, his eyes softening as they met hers. "It is okay. I am fine." He paused. "We need to leave now."

He gestured toward the planet.

Raven’s hand found his, "What about..."

Arthur’s voice was quiet, "He made his choice."

He took one final look at Earth-7.

Then he disappeared alongside Raven, their presence fading from this universe.

Korin Zor-El stood in the ruins of the Fortress, its crystalline walls cracked and broken, its power fading, it had completed its purpose.

He stood alone in the main chamber, his eyes fixed on the displays that showed the planet’s core rupturing, its surface cracking, its end approaching in the next few moments. The walls around him were beginning to crumble, the ceiling above him beginning to crack.

His voice was quiet, almost to himself. "It is finally done."

He looked around the chamber at the place that had been his home for two years, at the memories that had been forged within its walls, at the ghosts of his mother and uncle who had died to protect him.

"I hope you are proud of me, Mother. I hope you understand why I had to do this." He paused, his eyes glistening. "I have tried to survive. I have tried to fight. But I am tired. I am so tired, I want to join you."

He sat down on the floor, his eyes fixed on the ceiling that was beginning to crack. The Fortress was shaking now, his voice was barely a whisper.

"We have avenged everyone at last."

He closed his eyes, the Fortress crumbled around him, and then the planet itself exploded.

The shockwave rippled across the universe.

Earth-7 and Korin Zor-El was no more.
