She Only Cares About Cultivation

As people get older, being a bit eccentric isn’t unusual. Anyway, no matter what she says, it doesn’t affect An Yi.

An Ran’s biological father and mother never appeared again from start to finish. Perhaps they know she is living well and sensibly never came back, which An Ran finds somewhat satisfactory. Just based on this, she wouldn’t stop them if they want to see her in the future.

As time moves into June, it starts to get hot, even the rain is more than in May. The temperature difference between morning and evening is quite large. Although the Northeast summer can be hot, it’s not as hot as the Central Plains or Southern areas, so there’s no need for air conditioning. So this temperature for An Yi is very comfortable.

With longer daylight hours, after school she would still go around the back mountain to dig for mushrooms and wild vegetables. If Qiuxia and Caihua return on the weekend, they would have a good meal. Usually, when it’s just the mother and daughter, they mostly cook once and eat for two days. Counting the whole week, An Yi actually cooks very few times.

After boiling the milk, pour it into the thermos. She has a lot of thermoses in her space, maybe twenty or more. Boil a big pot, enough for the kids to drink for a week without any problem.

Steamed buns, corn buns, vegetable dumplings once steamed, no need to fuss for a week.

With the giant fridge in her space, her family really saves a lot of fuel.

The sisters bring back their homework every week for An Yi to see. While she reviews their progress, she also gives them her type of questions for them to learn and apply. Because she has learned many times, grasping the knowledge points is too easy for her. Maybe she can’t help much politically, as that requires personal understanding, but in other areas she really is like a think tank, even the sisters can’t help feeling amazed.

"It’s a pity you don’t teach at our school. It’s not just that you explain well, but it’s also simple and easy to understand. Many types of questions we haven’t seen before, really, sis, you’re incredibly talented, especially with Russian and English, you know both? Unbelievable, we only have one class a week, learning just the basic pronunciation."

The school didn’t plan to test on these basic courses anyway, it was just to broaden their knowledge. They didn’t expect them to learn very well. See, even these interest courses are arranged for Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, just one class a week.

An Yi saw their crooked notes and realized they had opened these two courses.

"Sis, your pronunciation is so pleasant and even more accurate than our teacher’s. How come you know everything? Comparing ourselves, I feel like we’ve lived these years in vain."

"I don’t know much either. It’s just superficial knowledge, but since you’re learning, I’ll help you review the basic pronunciation."

She doesn’t want to get too involved in this. Anyway, it’s just some basics, teaching them is no problem. Even if they don’t learn it, at least they should know the difference between their language and our writing.

Judging from the weekend assessment, the two sisters are still serious, and haven’t slacked off.

"Very good, keep it up. Before you leave this time, I’ll give you some more questions, write some words, you should practice writing them back at school."

She has plenty of paper in her space, and every day there are thirty words assigned to practice. The exercise book is very small, and they’re very frugal, writing on the front and back, filling the paper as much as possible. They’re also using pencils; pens are too expensive, practicing calligraphy costs too much, the only way to save is to use pencils.

This is where middle school is better than elementary school, because middle school students wouldn’t find it unaffordable to buy exercise books. Meanwhile, in elementary school, the levels vary greatly, many are just aiming to recognize a few words. So in first to third grade, it’s all sand tables, and only in fourth and fifth grade would exercise books be used.

Middle school is four years, elementary is five years, together that’s nine years. High school is two years, those who persist to high school and even enter university are very rare.

The sisters didn’t talk much about school, just about study; they didn’t mention interpersonal relationships at all. But since their background has been exposed, and their age is there, it’s obvious that they might face isolation. Luckily, they are not alone; one person can manage even without being noticed. But if one person is isolated, just thinking about it feels tragic.

School bullying in this era isn’t nonexistent either, but these sisters’ thinking is already mature enough, their age is older, so those kids won’t bother them much. The fear is that they might have malicious intent towards them. Cold violence isn’t scary, what’s scary is these people standing on what they think is a moral high ground, making nauseating remarks now and then.
